It has been reported by Associated Press’ Michael Balsamo that the two times NBA All-Star and power forward for the Sacramento Kings, Zach Randolph has been sentenced on Wednesday to community service. The sentence came after Randolph’s involvement in an incident in Los Angeles which resulted in charges for marijuana possession and resisting arrest.

Frank Mateljan, a spokesman for the Los Angeles city attorney’s office said that “Randolph entered a no-contest plea during a court appearance Wednesday and was immediately sentenced to 150 hours of community service“. Mateljan also added that if Randolph stays out of the trouble for a year, he could ask the court for charges to be vacated.

Randolph issued a statement on Thursday, saying the following:

I want to thank my agent, my attorney, my family, the Sacramento Kings, friends and fans who have supported me during this incident. I want to assure all of my fans that I did nothing wrong and I am glad to have this incident behind me. I look forward to working with my teammates and the Sacramento Kings and having a successful NBA season.

Zach Randolph was arrested in August, initially being charged with a felony that included possession of marijuana with the intention to sell. Court documents revealed that Randolph had more than 28.5 grams of marijuana in his possession at the moment of arrest. Still, LA prosecutors dropped the felony charges and decided to go with misdemeanor drug possession.

Zach Randolph entered the NBA in 2001 when Portland Trail Blazers selected him with the 19th overall pick in 2001 NBA Draft. After 6 seasons with the Blazers, Randolph played for the New York Knicks and L.A. Clippers before settling in Memphis, where he spent 8 seasons with the Grizzlies and helping them to 7 consecutive playoff appearances. In July 2017 Randolph agreed to 2 year deal with the Sacramento Kings, worth $24 million.
