After making several key additions through free agency, Chicago White Sox are now focused on locking down their youth prospects to long-term deals. According to ESPN’s Jeff Passan, the White Sox reached an agreement over a five-year extension with third baseman Yoan Moncada.

Passan reports that the deal is worth $70 million overall and includes a club option for the sixth year. The option is worth $25 million, while the deal also includes $5 million buyout.

Moncada is coming off his best season as a pro, having a batting average of .315 in 2019 to go with 25 homers and 79 RBIs. He played a total of 132 games last year.

White Sox acquired Yoan Moncada back in 2016, as part of the trade that sent seven-time All-Star pitcher Chris Sale to Boston Red Sox. Since then, Moncada played 335 games for Chicago, hitting .266 with 50 home runs and 162 RBIs.

Earlier in the year, White Sox locked in outfielder Luis Robert to a six-year, $50 million extension, while also giving reliever Aaron Bummer and utility-man Leury Garcia new contracts.
