Ivory Coast midfielder Yaya Toure, who most notably starred for Barcelona and Manchester City in the past, might make a surprising return to soccer. Toure, who hasn’t played since 2019, was recently pictured training with EFL League Two side Leyton Orient.

The English club posted a photo of Toure on their training ground on Friday as their squad returned to activities after a lengthy break.

However, reports from English media indicate that Toure’s stay with Leyton Orient is only temporary. The 37-year-old midfielder is reportedly just working on improving his fitness as he’s eyeing potential opportunities for a comeback.

Toure last played with China’s Qingdao Huanghai, making 14 appearances and helping the team to promotion to Chinese Super League. It was rumored that he retired in the meantime in order to pursue a coaching career, but the player refuted those claims in several of his interviews, saying he intends to play for a “few more years.”

Yaya Toure spent his early career with Beveren, Metalurh Donetsk, Olympiacos, and Monaco before making a move to Barcelona. While winning La Liga and UEFA Champions League with the Catalan club, Toure never settled in Spain and departed for Premier League side Manchester City in 2010.

With City, Toure established himself as one of the best midfielders in the world, playing a total of 316 games in eight seasons. He helped the team win three Premier League titles, among other trophies.

Toure also saw significant success with the Ivory Coast national team, captaining his country to Africa Cup of Nation title in 2015.
