The MLB free agency just started, but Chicago White Sox didn’t waste time making a big splash. The team announced on Thursday that they have landed All-Star catcher Yasmani Grandal on a four-year deal.

According to the team’s statement, Grandal will receive $18.25 million per season with the contract’s overall value being $73 million.

The 31-year-old was the top-ranked free agent catcher in the free agency, after having an All-Star campaign with Milwaukee Brewers in which he hit 28 home runs and had 77 RBIs.

“He’s such a quality guy,” – said White Sox president Ken Williams. “And for him to understand our messaging, our goals, our path, and to say, ‘I want to be a part of that and I’m going to commit to it early so we can move on to the next thing heading into the Winter Meetings,’ just shows what kind of character we’re talking about.”

Yasmani Grandal was a free agent in 2018 as well when he reportedly decided to reject a four-year, $60 million offer from the New York Mets. He ended up signing a one year deal with the Brewers that was worth $18.25 million.

Grandal, who had his MLB debut in 2012, previously played with San Diego Padres and Los Angeles Dodgers. His career stats include .241 batting average, 141 homers, and 416 RBIs.

“My family and I are very excited and honored to be a part of the Chicago White Sox organization,” – said Grandal after inking a deal with the White Sox. “I loved their professionalism, preparation and vision towards the future. I want to thank them for allowing me to be a part of this process moving forward.”
