We hope you didn’t lose interest in World Cup 2018 just because USMNT will not be there. If you still intend to watch the World Cup games, then you’ll be glad to know that you are in for a treat. FIFA conducted the draw for the group stage of 2018 World Cup in Moscow on Friday and brought some interesting clashes.

The host will face Uruguay, Egypt, and Saudi Arabia. Reigning World Cup winner, Germany landed in group F and are going against Mexico, Sweden, and South Korea during their quest to defend the title. Portugal and Spain are favorites in Group B since it is hard to imagine Iran and Morocco making a big splash. Another interesting duel will be seen in Group G, that features Belgium and England alongside Tunisia and Panama. The overall impression, however, is that the groups are very balanced and could bring some upsets. You can check out all the groups below.

2018 World Cup is scheduled to take place from 14 June to 15 July 2018 in 11 cities. Out of the 32 national teams participating in the competition, 20 will be making back-to-back appearances following the 2014 World Cup hosted by Brazil. Only two national teams, Brazil and Germany, participated in every edition of the World Cup, while Panama and Iceland are making their World Cup debuts.

Group A
Russia, Uruguay, Egypt, Saudi Arabia

Group B
Portugal, Spain, Iran, Morocco

Group C

Group D

Group E

The first half of Honduras vs. USA game saw Romell Quioto scoring a goal and giving Honduras a lead. This meant U.S. men’s national team was facing a mountain to climb. There were on the losing end of a game they needed a positive result from. The shocking loss against Costa Rica on September 2nd ensured that the USA will have to work hard to get to the World Cup held in Russia in 2018. Defeat against Honduras would bring the world of problems, and would put in jeopardy the whole mission.

Luckily, Hamburger SV’s forward Bobby Wood came off the bench and found the net towards the end of the game, giving the USA a valuable point. It was a game that looked already lost for the USMNT. The team played poorly in the first half, and the things didn’t look much better in the second. But Wood’s goal ensured the USA staying ahead of Honduras in the standings, and that is the most important thing at the moment.

That’s a huge point for the U.S. team. The conditions were challenging for both teams. I’m really proud of our team.” – said Bruce Arena in the post-match press conference.

The USA has two more games left in the qualifiers. The first one will see the USA welcoming Panama on the home turf, a match the USMNT has to win. Panama is currently ahead of USA in the standings, and they hold the 3rd spot which leads directly to the 2018 World Cup. Besides the match against the USA, Panama will face Costa Rica as well. The second match will see the USA going to Trinidad and Tobago, a team that has lost 7 out of 8 of their matches. If Bruce Arena’s boys manage to get two wins, USA will secure the World Cup spot. Everything else will definitely be considered a failure.
