The Miami Heat could soon get a significant boost for the remainder of the regular season and playoff run. According to ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski, Heat’s forgotten All-Star guard Victor Oladipo is close to returning to action and is expected back on the floor at some point in March.

Wojnarowski’s sources say that Oladipo is in the process of regaining his fitness after having a quad tendon surgery last year. The progress is apparently impressive enough to make the Heat optimistic about the possibility of seeing the 29-year-old Oladipo play in less than two weeks.

Oladipo joined the Heat from the rebuilding Houston Rockets ahead of the 2020-21 NBA season trade deadline. The 2018 NBA’s Most Improved Player ended up only playing four games with Miami before having to end his season prematurely due to quad tendon surgery. Despite this, the Heat decided to bring him back on a one-year contract in the offseason.

Victor Oladipo played his best basketball as a member of the Indiana Pacers, where he was an All-Star in 2018 and 2019. However, a ruptured quad tendon in his right knee derailed his career and limited him to only 52 games in the past three years.

Even if Oladipo doesn’t manage to find his All-Star form, he should still be able to contribute to the Miami Heat team that is already among Eastern Conference heavyweights. The Heat is currently second on the standings, just half a game behind the Chicago Bulls.

The Miami Heat’s Victor Oladipo is heading to the sidelines once again. The two-time All-Star guard decided to undergo surgery on his right quadriceps tendon and is expected to miss the remainder of the season as a result.

The Heat confirmed the news on their social media, adding that there is “no timetable for his return at this time.”

Oladipo initially tore his right quadriceps tendon while with the Indiana Pacers in 2019. After missing a whole year of rehabbing, he returned to court in January 2020.

While Oladipo showed flashes of his former self, the injury definitely took some toll on him. He only managed to play 52 games since then while struggling to remain consistent. It also didn’t help that Oladipo was traded twice in 2020-21.

The Pacers first sent him to the Houston Rockets as part of a James Harden trade to the Brooklyn Nets. After playing 20 games for the Rockets, Oladipo rejected the team’s extension offer, which caused the franchise to ship him to the Miami Heat.

Oladipo, who will hit the free agency in the summer, had a poor outing in Miami since his arrival and averaged just 12 points in four games. Despite this, the Heat reportedly still intend to be aggressive in their attempts to keep the 29-year-old player for 2021-22 and beyond.

Since entering the league as the Orlando Magic’s second overall pick in 2013, Victor Oladipo averaged 17.6 points, 4.0 rebounds, and 4.6 assists per game. He has two All-Star nods, an All-NBA Third Team selection, and an NBA Most Improved Player award, among other accolades.
