The US Women’s National Team was able to beat England 2-1 on Tuesday night to advance to the final of this year’s World Cup. They did this despite Megan Rapinoe’s hamstring strain that kept her from playing in their semifinal bout.

Despite missing Tuesday’s game, Rapinoe says that her hamstring has healed enough for her to play in the competition’s final, which will either take place against the Netherlands.

Rapinoe’s status was up in the air for Tuesday night’s game after suffering a mild strain in the USWNT’s quarterfinal win against France last Friday. She was the star of that game, scoring both US goals to propel her team to a crucial win against one of the competition’s favorites.

She tried to get ready for the match but was simply unable to take the field. She told reporters, “(My hamstring) just tightened up a little bit toward the end. I just wasn’t going to be ready for today.”

The 33-year-old star is confident, however, that she will have recovered sufficiently to play in Sunday’s final in Lyon, France.

When asked after Tuesday’s win about her hamstring and status for the final, Rapinoe said, “It’s feeling much better and I expect to be ready for the final.”

It’s great news for the USWNT, a squad that is looking to win its second consecutive World Cup.

The USWNT finished atop of Group A after beating Mexico, Panama and Trinidad & Tobago for a combined tally of 18 scored and 0 conceded. Scoring three goals from outside the box, the US defeated Trinidad & Tobago with little trouble.

Washington Spirit’s Rose Lavelle hit two goals in a span of two minutes to make it three after Orlando Pride’s Morgan scored the opener. The US is unsure which team to play in the semis. But it’s either the winner between Canada and Costa Rica or Jamaica versus Cuba. Both games will be determined this Thursday. Panama, which finished second in the group stages, has a chance to get into the world cup on Sunday if they beat one of the teams that win on Thursday.

Wednesday’s Win was coincidental of last year’s men CONCACAF when the US men’s team lost to Trinidad & Tobago and miss in this year’s world cup in Russia for the first time since 1986.
