United States international and West Bromwich Albion striker Daryl Dike will not be available for the USMNT’s upcoming game against Mexico on Wednesday. Dike will be ruled out of action for up to nine months after suffering an Achilles injury, West Brom announced on Tuesday.

Dike was stretchered off from West Brom’s 2-1 victory over Stoke City in the EFL Championship on Saturday, requiring an oxygen mask as he was escorted from the field of play.

“Albion striker Daryl Dike will be sidelined for six to nine months after suffering an Achilles tendon injury at Stoke City on Saturday,” the club’s statement read. “A scan has since confirmed surgery is required to repair a full rupture of the USA international’s right Achilles, after which he will begin his rehabilitation. Albion’s medical and sports science teams will provide Dike with all the support he requires to return to full fitness later this year.”

The United States men’s national team learned its opponents for the 2021 Gold Cup. The draw for the tournament, which took place in Miami on Monday, placed United States in Group B and pitted the USMNT against Canada and Martinique.

One more team will join U.S., Canada, and Martinique following a mini-qualifying tournament. On one side of the bracket, Haiti faces the play. St. Vincent and the Grenadines, while Bermuda and Barbados are set to square off on the other side. The winners of the respective sides of the bracket will play in a single-elimination game for the final spot in Group B.

“I think it’s a strong group,” said USMNT manager Gregg Berhalter. “Canada has a great generation of players coming through. I think it’s going to be a great, competitive match. The other opponents, we’ll see who gets in the fourth spot, but it’s definitely a good group.”

Reigning Gold Cup champion Mexico was placed in Group A, where they will play El Salvador, Curacao, and team to be determined later. Costa Rica, Jamaica, and Suriname were placed in Group B, while Honduras, Panama, Grenada, and Qatar play in Group B.

Check out the complete draw below.

The 2021 Gold Cup will be held between July 10 and August 1 next year. The host cities are yet to be announced.

The US Men’s National Soccer team lost in a disappointing matchup with Jamaica in a tuneup for this summer’s Gold Cup.

The Stars and Bars dropped their match to the Caribbeans by a 0-1 final in a match played on home turf in Washington, DC.

The United States pressed Jamaica throughout the match, but their efforts were not ultimately rewarded with a goal.

Jamaica, on the other hand, scored a goal in the 60th minute to seal a victory with a shot by substitute Shamar Nicholson. This was all they needed in order to claim a confidence-boosting victory.

USMNT head coach Gregg Berhalter was happy with his team’s effort on Wednesday, but recognized that it wasn’t enough, saying “Overall, the effort was okay, but we performed poorly tonight.”

A performance like Wednesday night’s was certainly not what the Americans were looking for heading into the Gold Cup.

The CONCACAF tournament kicks off on Wednesday, June 18th with a game against Guyana.

Fortunately for the USMNT, they have another chance to tune up on a Saturday before the tournament in another friendly match against Venezuela. They’ll look to sharpen up their tactics and get into a good rhythm before the Gold Cup, a tournament in which they are considered one of the favorites.

The United States men’s national team interim manager Dave Sarachan announced the 24-man roster for upcoming friendlies with Colombia and Peru. Unlike several previous call-ups, in which he turned to younger and inexperienced squad, Sarachan opted to put some veteran names on his list this time. USMNT veterans Michael Bradley and Brad Guzan are back on the roster while Borussia Dortmund’s star winger Christian Pulisic will also join the team after missing games in September.

I’m excited about the upcoming games, and I’m excited about the group of players that we have selected,” – said Sarachan. “There is a consistent group of younger players that we’ve had over the past friendlies and added some new faces I’m looking forward to seeing up close. We will have Christian Pulisic back, and there is also the addition of a couple of veteran players in Michael Bradley and Brad Guzan, so there is a lot to look forward to in these next Kickoff Series matches.

Asked why he decided to bring in veterans this time, Dave Sarachan said that he is looking to have a mix of experience and youth that will blend in time for upcoming competitive games.

When you are building a team, at some point there has to be the proper blend of youth and experience,” – he added. “As we head into these last four friendlies of the year, I felt the timing was right to begin that transition. I think it’s important to do it earlier than a week before the Gold Cup or a World Cup qualifier.

Friendlies with Colombia and Peru will also be an opportunity for some players to make a debut for the senior team. Nordsjaelland winger Jonathan Amon, New York City FC left-back Ben Sweat and FC Dallas right-back Reggie Cannon have been called-up for the first time and is expected that Sarachan will give them some playing time.

You can check out the full 24-man roster below.

The U.S. Soccer Federation has announced on Wednesday that Bruce Arena’s assistant, Dave Sarachan, was named interim coach of the United States men’s national team. Sarachan, who has a contract until the end of the year as the rest of the Bruce Arena’s staff, will lead the team in the match against Portugal in November. Alongside Sarachan, Pat Noonan, Matt Reis, and Kenny Arena are also on the U.S. Soccer Federation’s payroll. It is expected that they will not get new contracts as the federation looks for a new figure to coach USMNT. That process, however, may take a while.

As this is the start of a five-year project to qualify for the 2022 World Cup and grow the national team, we want to give ourselves the best opportunity to find the right coach to lead the program,” – the USSF said in a written statement. “As such, there is no specific timetable. We are developing a strategic approach to selecting the next head coach, and we will be thorough and methodical.

Dave Sarachan is a longtime collaborator of Bruce Arena who hired him as his assistant in 1984 at the University of Virginia. The pair then worked together in D.C. United, the U.S. squad from 1999 to 2002, and the Los Angeles Galaxy before returning to the U.S. team once again this year. As a head coach, Sarachan managed Cornell University and Chicago Fire.

As the USSF begins its search, a couple of high-profile names popped up as the early favorites. One of them is current Atlanta FC coach, Gerardo Martino who also managed Argentina and Barcelona in the past. Former PSG coach Laurent Blanc is also a favorite and might be more realistic option since he is currently unemployed.

The first big challenge for the new USMNT coach will be the 2019 CONCACAF Gold Cup.
