Tyson Fury confirmed his boxing supremacy back in October when knocked out Deontay Wilder in a thrilling fight to retain his WBC heavyweight title. But the feat is now set to be considered even more impressive after Fury’s father revealed that his son entered the ring “badly injured.”

In a recent chat with BT Sport, John Fury shared that his son dealt with elbow injuries ahead of the bout and had to get cortisone injections before the fight started. The injuries were so bad that the WBC heavyweight champ need “six-hour” surgery to repair the damage.

“He’s since had an operation, six hours, all day in hospital having them sorted out. He had some bone spurs he had to get removed,” John Fury told the British media outlet.

“My son’s No. 1, a legend and will be spoken about for hundreds of years,” he added. “He’s that damn good and got that burning desire to never get beaten.”

Tyson Fury and Deontay Wilder produced one of the best boxing matches in ages to wrap up their trilogy. Both of the fighters were on canvas at one point but it was Fury who dealt the finishing blow by dropping Wilder in the eleventh round to end the fight.

While Fury would probably like to chase the undisputed heavyweight title next, that doesn’t seem likely at the moment. WBC already confirmed that they want Fury to fight interim champion Dillian Whyte with early 2022 being eyed as the most likely date.

Tyson Fury has emerged as a strong betting favorite ahead of his clash with Deontay Wilder for the WBC heavyweight title in Las Vegas on Saturday night. Fury is a -280 favorite to win the bout, while Wilder has been positioned as the +230 underdog.

During Fury and Wilder’s first bout in 2018, it was Wilder who was viewed as the clear favorite. This fight ended in a split draw. Wilder remained the favorite to win the second bout, a match that ended with Fury shocking the boxing world by winning via a seventh-round TKO.

Nick Kalikas, a risk supervisor for Circa Sports, had this to say on the latest betting trends: “We did see a lot of straight bets on Wilder earlier. Now, as we’re getting closer to the fight, there is an uptick of action both ways. We did see some sharp action, some max bets on Tyson Fury, as of late.”

Betting giant Caesars Sportsbook revealed that at the start of Saturday, nearly 80% of the money that had been wagered was placed on a Fury win. BetMGM, on the other hand, reported that 64.6% of its betting money was on Wilder, while OddsChecker.com reported that betting was evenly divided on aggregate.

It looks like heavyweight champions Anthony Joshua and Tyson Fury are finally meeting in the ring. According to English promoter Eddie Hearn, Fury and Joshua have an “agreement” to fight in 2021.

Hearn, who promotes Joshua, told ESPN on Wednesday that the two fighters worked out basics of the deal for two fights that should take place next year.

“We have agreed to the basics of the deal, a two-fight deal,” said Hearn. “The hardest part is to agree to the financial element of the deal. We have agreed with Tyson Fury and the team, and we can now move forward with finalizing the smaller parts of the deal. The good news for fight fans is that we have agreed to do the two fights, and we can now go and dot the I’s and cross the T’s.”

However, Hearn added that details like exact date and venue are unknown at the moment and both Joshua and Fury will have to come out victorious in their next fights in order to meet each other,

“They also have fights in between to make and get through, and that’s another issue,” he explained.

Fury also confirmed the deal via a video posted on social media.

After losing the WBO, WBA, and IBF heavyweight champion belts to Andy Ruiz in June 2019, Anthony Joshua managed to get them back in a rematch that took place six months later. For his next fight, Joshua was supposed to face Kubrat Pulev on June 20th, but the bout was postponed due to the coronavirus pandemic.

Tyson Fury, on the other hand, holds the WBC heavyweight champion belt as he defeated Deontay Wilder in early 2020. Fury will now face Dillian Whyte as part of mandatory title defense chores, while the third fight against Wilder is also on the cards.

Deontay Wilder and Tyson Fury will cross their gloves for the third time. This was officially confirmed to ESPN by Bob Arum, Fury’s co-promoter.

According to Arum, Wilder exercised the clause in his contract, which gives him a chance to fight Fury for the third time and try to reclaim WBC heavyweight title. The fight will take place on July 18th at Las Vegas’ MGM Grand Garden Arena.

The news was also confirmed by Wilder’s co-manager Shelly Finkel.

“We did exercise it,” said Finkel. “We want to fight Fury next and we wanted to make sure we sent the letter and that it was done.”

Deontay Wilder and Tyson Fury first met in December 2018 in Los Angeles, when the fight ended in a much-disputed draw. The fighters later decided to settle the score in a highly anticipated rematch, which took place on February 22nd, 2020.

The second fight wasn’t as close, with Fury dominating the fight and sending Wilder two times on the canvas. The match ended in the seventh round with a TKO after the Wilder’s corner threw in the towel. The win gave Fury his second heavyweight title.

Wilder’s decision to ask for a third match doesn’t come as a surprise, as he announced it almost immediately after the loss. Prior to the rematch, each fighter signed on a contract, which enabled the loser to request a third match.

Tyson Fury is the heavyweight world champion once again. Fury defeated the reigning champion Deontay Wilder in a highly publicized fight on Saturday night, claiming the title under World Boxing Council (WBC).

Fury and Wilder first met 14 months ago, when their fight finished with a controversial draw. This time around, however, it was obvious that neither fighter wanted to leave place for doubt.

Wilder looked good in the first two rounds, but Fury didn’t back down. The British fighter remained aggressive and took control of the match, starting from the third round.

Fury first sent Wilder to the floor in the third, which was just the second time in American’s career, and then took him down once again in the fifth. Halfway through the seventh round, Furry got Wilder pinned up the ropes and bleeding, which caused the Wilder’s team to throw in the towel.

“The king has returned to the top of the throne,” said Fury after his win.

With this win, Tyson Fury rounded his comeback and took his place as one of the best heavyweight boxers in the world once again while remaining undefeated. As of Deontay Wilder, he was handed his first professional defeat after 44 fights and failed to break Mohammad Ali’s record for most consecutive heavyweight world champion title defenses.

“Even the greatest have lost and come back,” said Wilder. “I make no excuses. This is what big-time boxing is all about.”

Considering the big interest in the fight, it’s expected that we will see Fury vs. Wilder trilogy. This could set up the stage for a winner to fight Anthony Joshua, who is the heavyweight world champion under WBA, IBF, WBO, and IBO.
