Tyronn Lue led Cleveland Cavaliers to three consecutive NBA Finals and one title, but that wasn’t enough for him to keep his job after 0-6 start in the 2018/19 season. Looking back to Cavs’ decision now, Lue thinks that the organization made a mistake.

Lue, who currently serves on Doc Rivers’ staff with Los Angeles Clippers, recently had a sit down with The Athletic’s Joe Vardon and said that he thinks he shouldn’t have been fired by the Cavaliers.

“I don’t think it should’ve happened” said Lue. “When it happened, I just kind of — it puts everything in perspective. You don’t see that very often where a coach goes to three straight finals and wins a championship and gets fired six games into (the season). You probably have never seen it.”

Lue wishes he was still at the helm of Cavaliers, thinking he and general manager Koby Altman could have done a good job in Cleveland despite the departure of LeBron James.

“What I tried to build there, I think the culture I tried to set. I thought we could do it together. Koby (Altman) being a young GM, me being a young coach, having young players,” he added.

Reportedly, one of the reasons for Tyronn Lue’s exit was his wish to field a competitive team after James’ exit. The management, on the other side, wanted Lue to focus more on the future and give younger players a chance. This eventually caused the disagreement between two sides, and Lue ended up being fired.

Lue took the year off after finishing his stint with Cleveland and entered the running for the Los Angeles Lakers’ job this offseason. He ended up deciding to turn the offer, as the organization wanted to give him only a three-year deal while forcing him to take Jason Kidd as one of his assistants.

Tyronn Lue is inching closer to become the next head coaching choice for Los Angeles Lakers. After Monty Williams took the Phoenix Suns’ offer, Lue emerged as the Lakers’ preferred choice, and now the two sides started working on a deal.

League sources recently told Yahoo Sports that Lakers and Lue are currently working on coaching contract agreement and are refining contractual parameters. The sources also note that Lue still hasn’t given the organization a definitive “yes” on taking the job.

If Tyronn Lue ends up becoming the head coach of the Los Angeles Lakers, he is expected to bring former Indiana Pacers and Orlando Magic’s coach Frank Vogel as his lead assistant.

Ever since Lakers’ began their coaching search, Lue was one of the favorites due to his connections with Lakers organizations and the fact that he is an NBA Championship-winning coach. He also has strong relationships with the franchise’s star LeBron James, something that the Lakers had in mind during the process. The 42-year-old also reportedly impressed owner Jeanie Buss and general manager Rob Pelinka during the interviews with his basketball knowledge and the plan he has to bring the NBA title back to Los Angeles.

Tyronn Lue served as head coach of Cleveland Cavaliers for two and a half seasons, during which he made three consecutive NBA Finals trips and won one title. He was fired on the start of 2018/19 season after going 0-6 at the start of the season. Lue’s head coaching record with the Cavs is 128-83.

Back in March, Cleveland Cavaliers head coach Tyronn Lue took two weeks absence from the team in order to deal with health issues that have not been specified. Until now.

In an interview with ESPN‘s Rachel Nichols, Lue revealed that the main source of his health problems was anxiety, for which he is currently receiving treatment.

I’m glad it wasn’t anything serious,” – said Lue. “Just anxiety and the medication I’m on is great. No more chest pains, so everything’s been great.

Tyronn Lue has been struggling with chest pain for more than a year and underwent series of test before deciding to step away from coaching on March 19 and deal with the issues eventually returning to his duties on April 5. According to Lue, these two weeks absence helped him a lot, as he took the badly needed rest and made lifestyle changes that made his condition better.

I think for the first time in my career, 20 years, I had a chance to focus on me. It wasn’t as bad as people thought it was. But I did have some chest pains for the last couple of years. And I was just trying to be able to get through it not knowing what was wrong with me,” – Lue revealed to Nichols. “So the two weeks I took off, just finally had a chance to focus on myself and change my diet. Hired a chef. Stopped drinking as many Shirley Temples. And stopped with the sweets and got back to taking care of myself. Now I feel great.

Since returning to coaching, Tyronn Lue and his Cavs managed to overcome various obstacles and booked their place in the 2018 NBA Finals where they will face Golden State Warriors for the fourth straight season.

Cleveland Cavaliers have lost Game 2 of the Eastern Conference Finals against the Boston Celtics, and now have to work their way up from a 0-2 deficit. If you ask Cavaliers coach, Tyronn Lue, in order to get back into the series, Cavs have to be “tougher” since Celtics are “gooning the game up.”

We have to be tougher,” – said Tyronn Lue following 94-107 loss on Tuesday night. “I think they’re playing tougher than we are. We’re seeing that. They’re being physical. They’re gooning the game up, and we have to do the same thing. We have to be tougher mentally and physically.

Cavs’ guard J.R. Smith started playing tougher in Game 2 already but took it too literary showing Celtics’ center Al Horford as he attempted a layup attempt. Smith was assessed with a flagrant-one foul and then got into a scuffle with Marcus Smart, which got him a technical foul.

It was a good call. I blatantly pushed [Horford],” – said Smith after the game. “It wasn’t like I was trying to low bridge him or something. I just wanted to make sure he didn’t get it. It was a good, hard foul. I understand why they gave me a flag there.

Cleveland Cavaliers and Boston Celtics will resume Eastern Conference Finals series on Friday at Quicken Loans Arena in Cleveland.

The Cleveland Cavaliers are facing yet another problem in their setbacks filled 2017-18 NBA season. The Cavs announced on Monday that their head coach Tyronn Lue is taking a break from coaching in order to focus on his health. Lue has had ongoing health issues this season and was unable to coach the entire game on three occasions.

After many conversations with our doctors and [general manager] Koby [Altman] and much thought given to what is best for the team and my health, I need to step back from coaching for the time being and focus on trying to establish a stronger and healthier foundation from which to coach for the rest of the season,” – said Lue in a statement. “I have had chest pains and other troubling symptoms, compounded by a loss of sleep, throughout the year. Despite a battery of tests, there have been no conclusions as to what the exact issue is. While I have tried to work through it, the last thing I want is for it to affect the team.

My goal is to come out of it a stronger and healthier version of myself so I can continue to lead this team to the Championship we are all working towards.” – he added.

Tyronn Lue first experienced problems in December, when he missed the game against the Chicago Bulls. The 40-year old then had to leave the games against the Orlando Magic in February and Saturday’s game against the Bulls because he was not feeling well.

The Cavs announced that assistant coach Larry Drew will take over as interim head coach. Drew previously served as a head coach with the Atlanta Hawks and Milwaukee Bucks, joining the Cleveland Cavaliers in 2014.
