According to multiple reports, the Las Vegas Raiders plan to part ways with veteran wideout Tyrell Williams. The release is expected to take place at the start of the new league year in March.

Williams joined the Raiders in 2019 and had 42 catches for 651 yards and six touchdowns in his first year with the team. The 28-year-old player didn’t see the field in 2020, however, injuring his shoulder in training camp and having to undergo season-ending surgery.

It made sense for the Raiders to move on from Williams, considering that he’s still not fully healthy and ready to play. And even when he returns to action, there are no guarantees that he could be an impact player right away, which is something that Las Vegas badly needs if they want to end their postseason drought.

Another key reason is Williams’ contract, which is set to pay him $11 million in each of the next two years. He has no guaranteed money left on the deal, so releasing him will give the Raiders significant salary-cap relief.

The majority of the money that Las Vegas saves with this move will most likely go to Nelson Agholor’s new contract. Agholor used Williams’ absence to carve a role for himself on the Raiders’ offense, which resulted in 48 receptions for 896 yards and eight touchdowns.

Tyrell Williams entered the league in 2015, signing with the Los Angeles Chargers as an undrafted free agent out of Western Oregon. He has a total of 197 career-catches for 3,181 yards and 23 scores.

Despite the injury issues, Williams should have no problem getting a chance with another team in 2021. But it likely won’t be for $11 million.

Las Vegas Raiders’ receiving core suffered a tough blow less than two weeks before the season opener against the Carolina Panthers. According to ESPN’s Field Yates, Raiders’ promising wideout Tyrell Williams landed on injured reserve with a season-ending designation and won’t play in 2020.

Williams suffered a shoulder injury earlier in the training camp, but the Raiders were optimistic that they will manage to get him on the field in time for Week 1. However, the injury turned out to be more severe compared to the initial assessment, and the 28-year-old player had to be ruled out for 2020.

According to NFL Network, Williams will most likely undergo shoulder surgery, which should repair the damage. The Raiders expect him to be healthy in time for the 2021 NFL season.

Tyrell Williams inked a four-year, $44 million contract with the Raiders last year and was supposed to be one of the key components of the team’s rebuilt offense. While Williams didn’t have a standout campaign in 2019, he still managed to deliver promising numbers by catching 42 passes for 651 yards and six touchdowns in 12 starts.

Raiders are now expected to turn to rookies Henry Ruggs III and Bryan Edwards as starters while second-year player Hunter Renfrow should also see increased snaps.

As Antonio Brown continues to be the talk of the NFL, the Raiders let their team do the talking with a big 24-16 opening night win.

Tyrell Williams, who overnight became the team’s new WR1, adapted well to his role and caught 6 passes for 105 yards. He made some impressive catches including an incredible 24 yard snag late in the 4th quarter which set Oakland up inside the Denver 5.

QB Derek Carr completed 22 of 26 passes and threw for 259 yards and a touchdown. His completion rate said it all as Carr looked comfortable and completed some tight passes through traffic in clutch situations.

Rookie running back Josh Jacobs ran for 85 yards on 23 touches and found the end zone twice, becoming the first Raiders running back to score two touchdowns in his NFL debut.

In front of 52,359 fans, Oakland wanted to prove that they have a competitive team even without Antonio Brown, and the rowdy crowd let them know that after every big play from the Raiders. Perhaps it was the motivation they needed, as Oakland was louder than the stadium has been in years.

The Oakland Raiders added yet another receiver on a free agent contract on Wednesday, right after trading for ex-Steelers receiver Antonio Brown.

Tyrell Williams inked a 4-year, $44 million deal with Oakland that includes $22 million guaranteed.

With performance incentives and bonuses, the maximum potential value of Williams’ deal is $47 million.

The new Raiders receiver spent the first four seasons of his career with the Chargers franchise. His best year came in 2016, when he caught 69 passes for a total of 1,059 yards and 7 touchdowns.

Williams was also solid in 2017 and 2018 as Los Angeles’s second option behind Keenan Allen, catching 84 passes, recording 1,381 receiving yards and 9 touchdowns between the two seasons.

In addition, the Western Oregon alum has a reputation for durability. The 27-year-old hasn’t missed a single NFL game due to injury since his debut in the 2015 season.

Williams’ role on the Oakland Raiders will be as a big-play threat and Derek Carr’s second receiving option behind the newly-acquired Antonio Brown.

Oakland’s wide receiving attack might just be the spark that leads them to the playoffs for the first time since the 2016 season after the additions of Brown and Williams.
