Pittsburgh Pirates officially confirmed on Wednesday that they had acquired pitcher Chris Archer from Tampa Bay Rays. Pirates sent outfielder Austin Meadows, pitcher Tyler Glasnow, and another player to be named to the Rays in exchange for the 29-year-old All-Star.

Chris Archer has been, and projects to be, an upper-echelon major-league pitcher,” – said Pirates general manager Neal. “We are thrilled to add to our organization to help us win games for the next three-plus years.”

This is considered to be a big move for the Pirates, considering the fact that Chris Archer is under contract for three more years. Archer started 17 games for the Rays in this season and had a 3-5 record with a 4.31 ERA.

I am happy to go to an organization that wants me,” – said Archer after joining the Pirates. “The return that the Rays got demonstrates how bad they want me. Not only this year but the years going forward.”

Chris Archer was drafted by the Cleveland Indians in the fifth round of the 2006 MLB Draft. However, he failed to play a single game for the Indians and was traded to the Tampa Bay Rays in 2011. One year later, Archer received his MLB debut and began his rise as one of the top pitching prospects in the league. His career record with the Rays is 54–68 with 3.69 ERA.
