Tristan Thompson’s stint with the Indiana Pacers ended sooner than anyone expected. After playing just four games with the franchise, Thompson was shown the way out and is currently in the process of clearing his waivers.

Thompson arrived in Indiana ahead of the trade deadline as part of the deal that sent All-Star Domantas Sabonis to the Sacramento Kings. The 30-year-old Thompson averaged 7.3 points and 4.5 rebounds in the Pacers’ jersey before being waived.

Despite not being wanted by the Pacers, Thompson won’t be on the free-agent market for too long. Indiana’s head coach Rick Carlisle already told reporters after the 113-108 win over the Washington Wizards that the veteran center intends to sign with the Chicago Bulls. The Athletic’s Shams Charania also reported the same news, who said Thompson would join the Bulls once he clears waivers.

Thompson could prove to be a good pickup for the Bulls. He has championship experience and is still a good rebounder and defender who can help take some load off of starter Nikola Vucevic. The move was even endorsed by Chicago’s All-Star DeMar DeRozan, who called Thompson a “great dude,” and a “good friend.”

“Got the utmost respect for him off the court. Obviously, we all know what he brings on the court,” DeRozan added. “Think it will be great addition for us. Veteran leadership.”

Tristan Thompson entered the NBA in 2011 as Cleveland Cavaliers’ fourth overall pick. He spent nine seasons with the franchise, during which he won an NBA championship, before leaving as a free agent and signing with the Boston Celtics in 2020. Thompson, who has career averages of 9.1 points and 8.5 rebounds, spent one year in Boston before being traded to the Kings ahead of the 2021-22 season.

The Boston Celtics might be forced to start their new NBA campaign without their biggest offseason addition. According to Celtics head coach Brad Stevens, center Tristan Thompson is dealing with a hamstring injury and might be out for their 2020-21 opener against the formidable Milwaukee Bucks.

Stevens said that Thompson hurt his hamstring prior to training camp and is yet to take part in a full 5-on-5 practice with the team.

“I think that’s hard to say right now. He’s not been in any part of practice yet,” said Stevens when asked about Thompson’s availability. “I don’t know what that means with regard to Dec. 23rd. Every day that passes I’d say that becomes more unlikely.”

Thompson arrived to Boston on a two-year, $19 million contract and is supposed to fill a big need for Celtics as a rim protector and defensive presence in the paint. He spent the previous eight years playing with the Cleveland Cavaliers, where he averaged 9.4 points and 8.7 rebounds per game.

Other than Tristan Thompson, the Boston Celtics are also set to start the season without their star point guard Kemba Walker. The team expects Walker to be out until January after he underwent a knee procedure in October.

Daniel Theis is expected to fill in at the center position until Thompson returns, while free agency acquisition Jeff Teague should replace Walker for now.

When Cleveland Cavaliers traded for All-Star center Andre Drummond in February, it appeared that Tristan Thompson’s time with the organization was coming to an end. But according to recent reports, Cavs might try and keep Thompson after all.

Chris Fedor of Cleveland.com reports that the Cavaliers attempted to negotiate an extension with Thompson, who is in the final year of his deal, earlier in the season. The talks between the two sides didn’t end well, and Cavs opted to acquire Drummond from the Detroit Pistons. Yet the organization still wants to keep one of the rare leftovers from 2016’s title-winning team.

Fedor adds that the Cavs will open negotiations with Thompson against this offseason and would be even interested in offering him a one-year agreement. This would enable the 30-year-old a short-time stability, while he could enter the free agency market again in 2021 when the market improves.

The reason why Cavaliers want to bring back Thompson so bad is the fact that he’s a very popular figure with the fans and has been a positive influence on the team’s young core. Also, he has been putting up career numbers all across the boards before the NBA suspended the 2019/20 season, averaging 12.0 points, 10.1 rebounds, and 2.1 assists per game.

Cleveland Cavaliers confirmed on Tuesday that center Tristan Thompson will be out for two to four weeks. Thompson was diagnosed with a sprained left ankle after undergoing an MRI and further evaluation at Cleveland Clinic Sports Health. According to the Cavs’ official website, the 27-year-old will immediately be subjected to treatment and rehabilitation.

Tristan Thompson was injured in the third quarter of Monday night’s 92-108 loss to Milwaukee Bucks after awkwardly landing on Malcolm Brogdon’s foot. He left the game with 12 points, 6 rebounds, and one steal. a

This injury came in the really bad time for Thompson, who was having a great season so far. He was averaging 12 points, 11.6 rebounds, and 2.1 assists per game in 27 games played so far.

Cleveland Cavaliers were already down one star before this since their All-Star power forward Kevin Love suffered and injury at the beginning of the season. Love currently recovers from toe surgery and is expected to return in January.

Although they were plotting a playoff run before the start of the 2018-19 season, Cavs are currently sitting at the 14th spot in the Eastern Conference, with a 6-21 record. Their next game comes against the New York Knicks on Monday at Cleveland’s Quicken Loans Arena.

When LeBron James decided to leave Cleveland Cavaliers this summer, the team’s fans began preparing for the upcoming period of struggles to make the playoffs. But Cavaliers players are entering this season with a different mentality.

According to Cavs’ center Tristan Thompson, they are still ready contenders in the Eastern Conference despite not having the best basketball player in the world anymore.

We’re still four-time Eastern Conference champions, so until you take us down from that, teams ain’t got much to say. Boston, Philly, they ain’t got much to say,” – said Thompson on Thursday. “Boston had homecourt Game 7 and lost. Philly, you guys almost got swept. Toronto — we already know that story. So until someone takes us down, there’s not much they can really say.”

Confident Tristan Thompson would definitely be of use for the Cleveland Cavaliers since the 27-year-old is coming off his worst season since he entered the NBA in 2014. Thompson averaged a career-low 5.8 points per game while being modest in other statistical categories.

Unfortunately, confidence might not do much for the Cavaliers this upcoming season since most analysts predict them to be outside playoff contention. Maybe the Cavs will end up surprising us all, but that is hard to see since they just don’t have enough to compete with other top teams in the East.
