Trent Williams is staying with Washington Redskins, at least until the end of 2019 NFL Season. According to multiple reports, Williams ended his season-long holdout on Tuesday and has reported to the team facilities.

Discontent with the team’s medical and wanting a new deal, Williams held out for the entire offseason and the first eight weeks of the regular season. He asked the team to trade him, vowing to never play for Redskins again.

Washington refused to go along with Williams’ wishes for the better part of the season and only started to take trade calls for the player several days before Tuesday’s NFL trade deadline. A handful of teams were interested, including Cleveland Browns, but neither wanted to meet the high asking price. Redskins reportedly wanted a first-round pick.

After seeing he won’t be traded this season, Trent Williams decided to end his holdout in order for this year to count against his contract. The NFL rules require a player to be active for at least six regular-season games in order to have an accrued season. If Williams decided to stay away the whole year, he would still have two years left on his deal. This way, he can hit the free agency in 2021.

There is a big chance, however, that Williams will be out of Washington long before that. He will be a highly sought player in the offseason, and there is a big possibility that Redskins will lower their demands rather than have a discontent player on their team for another year.

Pro Bowl offensive tackle Trent Williams remains set on leaving Washington, but Redskins don’t intend to fulfill him this wish any time soon.

According to NBC Sports Washington, three NFL teams engaged in active pursue in recent days and are trying to convince Redskins to part way with the player. Reportedly, reigning Super Bowl champions New England Patriots are one of those three teams.

However, according to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, Washington was unmoved by the calls and inquiries and are set on keeping their franchise cornerstone.

CBS Sports’ Jason La Canfora, on the other hand, claims that the trade is going to happen and that it’s just “matter of time” before Williams leaves.

Trent Williams skipped all the team’s voluntary offseason activities and failed to report for mandatory mini-camp in spring and now the training camp. Sources close to the situation reported that Williams’ holdout isn’t about him forcing a new contract. Instead, the 31-year-old has issues with Washington Redskins’ coaches and medical staff who failed to diagnose a growth on his head that turned out to be a benign tumor.

While reports say that Williams doesn’t have the intention to play as a Redskin anymore, Washington obviously intends to try and mend their relationship with the player. If that doesn’t work out, however, trade is imminent and they could end up commanding a monster haul for him.
