According to NFL Insider Ian Rapoport, the Las Vegas Raiders traded offensive tackle Trent Brown to the Pats earlier this week while also swapping 2022 draft picks as part of the deal. The Raiders will receive a fifth-rounder in 2022 while sending the 2022 seventh-round selection to New England.

In order to facilitate the move, Brown agreed to have his contract restructured. Instead of being paid around $30 million in the next two seasons, the 27-year-old player will take $11 million in 2021 and become a free agent next year.

Brown spent the 2018 NFL season with the Pats, being a key piece in their offensive line and winning a Super Bowl with the organization. His good performances led the Raiders to sign him to a massive four-year, $66 million contract.

While Brown earned a Pro Bowl nod in his first season with the Raiders, he struggled to remain on the field during his time there. He missed the final five games of the 2019 NFL season and then played just five in 2020.

By parting with Trent Brown, the Raiders will get a significant cap relief and save around $14 million. This will open options to the franchise in free agency, as they were previously just $3 million under the salary cap.

The Pats, on the other hand, get a player they are familiar with who also fills a position of need. They will have no issues absorbing Brown’s $11 million salary as they are projected to have $66 million in cap space.

The Las Vegas Raiders were one of the first teams penalized this year for not following COVID-19 protocols, but it appears that they haven’t learned from their mistakes.

The team was fined yet again, this time receiving a hefty fine of $500,000 to pay. On top of that, the Raiders will be stripped of their sixth-round draft pick because of repeated violations.

The league began another investigation into the Raiders organization after their star offensive tackle Trent Brown tested positive for COVID-19 in late October.

On top of all these punishments, head coach Jon Gruden was fined for the second time this season for failing to consistently wear his mask during the games and will have to pay a $150,000 fine. Gruden was already fined $100,000 earlier in the season for the same violation.

In total, the NFL has now taken $1.2 million and a draft pick from Las Vegas because of COVID-19 protocol violations.

League sources say that NFL investigators found several health and safety guideline violations while visiting the team’s facility. The Raiders were also reprimanded earlier for allowing players to attend a large indoor gathering and allowing unauthorized personnel into the locker room after a game.

All five of the Las Vegas Raiders starting offensive linemen have been placed on the reserve/COVID-19 list.

The first to go to the list was right tackle Trent Brown, who tested positive for COVID-19. And since all of the other starting linemen were in close contact with Brown, all of them were deemed “high-risk contact” and placed on the COVID-19 list, along with safety Johnathan Abram.

They will all need to quarantine for the rest of the week and if they all test negative on Sunday, they could be able to play. The Raiders currently only have five active offensive linemen on the roster and two more on the practice squad. They need a minimum of eight on game day in order to play.

Las Vegas was scheduled to take on the Tampa Bay Buccanneers on Sunday night but will now play the afternoon game, with the Seattle Seahawks-Arizona Cardinals game taking the primetime spot.

The NFL and NFLPA will also be investigating the Raiders and whether they have followed COVID-19 protocols. Reports also claim that Brown will be investigated to see whether he was wearing his league-mandated tracking device at all times.
