The Atlanta Hawks point guard Trae Young will be an All-Star this season, after all. Young was given an All-Star nod by NBA commissioner Adam Silver, who selected him and Toronto Raptors’ Scottie Barnes as injury replacements.

Young and Barnes will step in for Philadelphia’s Joel Embiid and New York’s Julius Randle, who can’t make it due to injuries. Embiid recently underwent a meniscus surgery that will keep him out for at least four weeks while Randle is dealing with a shoulder injury.

The 2024 All-Star game is scheduled for February 18 and will take place in Indianapolis at Gainbridge Fieldhouse, the home of the Indiana Pacers.

Young was overlooked for the All-Star starters, voted by fans, current NBA players, and a media panel, and also missed out on making it as one of the reserves, which are selected by NBA head coaches. His initial omission raised some eyebrows, considering his individual numbers. The 25-year-old player is currently averaging 27.3 points and 10.9 assists.

Barnes, on the other hand, will get his first All-Star appearance thanks to Silver. The former NBA rookie of the year is having his best year as a pro, averaging career-highs in points (20.2), rebounds (8.1), and assists (5.8). He is also shooting a career-best 36.5% from behind the three-point line.

Trae Young suffered a concussion during the Atlanta Hawks’ 116-95 defeat to the Cleveland Cavaliers on Saturday, it was later confirmed. There is currently no timeline detailing his possible return date.

Young left the Cavs’ game with 8:43 remaining in the fourth quarter after he took a hit to the face when charged by the Cavaliers’ Isaac Okoro, with Okoro’s elbow making contact with Young’s face. Although the Hawks’ guard was able to remain on the court for a few minutes, he ultimately departed, leaving for the locker room and not returning to the court of play.

Prior to his departure, Young scored 15 points. He is averaging 26.9 points per game this season and ranks second in the NBA with 10.8 assists per game. The Hawks will be hoping for Young’s prompt return as they attempt to keep their challenge for a playoff spot alive.

The Philadelphia 76ers still can’t find a way to complete “The Process.” Despite making significant front office and coaching changes in the offseason, the 76ers were once again handed an unexpected early playoff exit.

This time, the Sixers were eliminated in the conference semifinals after suffering a shocking 103-96 to young and playoff inexperienced Atlanta Hawks team on Sunday night in a home Game 7.

Despite playing inconsistently during the series and blowing significant leads, Philly entered the pivotal game as an overwhelming favorite. And they played the part early on, entering the second quarter with a 28-25 advantage, before going through another meltdown.

Like so many times in the series, the Hawks crawled their way back and found a way to get the better out of their opponent. After erasing Philadelphia’s advantage early in the second period, Atlanta took control of the game and never relinquished it. The 76ers made few runs to get back in the driving seat, but their offensive inefficiency did not allow them to come close enough.

The Hawks were led by Kevin Huerter, who had a career-high with 27 points, seven rebounds, and three assists. Philly managed to keep Atlanta’s star guard Trae Young in check, limiting him to 5-23 shooting, but he still managed to score 21 points to go with his 10 assists.

Joel Embiid had a monster outing for the 76ers, managing 31 points and 11 boards despite playing on a meniscus tear. But that wasn’t enough as Philadelphia’s All-Star guard Ben Simmons had another disappointing night offensively. Simmons only had five points, making it the fourth game in the series that he wasn’t in double digits scoring.

The Atlanta Hawks are now headed to the Eastern Conference Finals, where they will face the Milwaukee Bucks. It’s an amazing feat for a Hawks team that opened the season with a 14-20 record and hasn’t been in the playoffs for the past three years.

Philadelphia, on the other hand, will have to make some tough decisions in the offseason if they don’t want to continue finishing their season early.

Atlanta Hawks encouraging the start of the season hit a major roadblock on Tuesday night when their sophomore point guard Trae Young suffered an injury in the loss against Miami Heat.

Young was driving to the basketball in the second quarter of the Heat game when he got tangled up with Justise Winslow. After landing awkwardly on the floor, the 21-year-old rolled his ankle and fell to the ground. He got up and limped to the locker room with a hurting expression on his face, before being ruled out for the remainder of the game.

“It was painful,” – said Young after the game. “Knock on wood, I haven’t had too many injuries. I’ve been blessed not to have too many injuries throughout my whole entire life, so that was definitely a tough pain.”

Luckily for the Hawks, however, it seems like Trae Young won’t face a lengthy break. ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski reported on Wednesday that the player’s X-ray test came back clean and that the injury was characterized as a sprain. This means that Young might miss only a couple of games, before returning to court at some point next week.

Young entered the 2019/20 NBA season in great form and was averaging 34 points and nine assists in the first three games. He also shot a 52 percent behind the three-point line.

After 36 and 49 points efforts in his two previous games, Atlanta Hawks’ point guard Trae Young looked like he will have another big performance against the Chicago Bulls on Sunday night. Unfortunately for Young, however, that didn’t happen as he was ejected from the game in the third quarter for taunting Bull’s guard Kris Dunn.

Trae Young and Kris Dunn got into a verbal and physical exchange in the first quarter after some contact on the previous play and were handed technical fouls. Then midway through the third quarter, Young hit a three over Dunn to make it 78-62 for the Hawks and stared down at him. Referee Mark Ayotte swiftly reacted, calling the Hawks’ PG for taunting and ejecting him from the game, causing surprise on both sides.

“They made a call, I live with it.” – said Young who had 18 points and five assists before the ejection. “I looked at someone, and that was about it.”

After the game, Dunn offered his opinion on the matter, saying that he doesn’t think Young should have been ejected.

“I don’t really know what happened, to be honest,” – he told BullsTV. “I just know that he got ejected, and I felt that he shouldn’t have got ejected.”

Ayotte also commented on his decision, saying to a pool reporter that he thinks he made the right call.

“Taunting is directed at an opponent specifically,” – he said. “Celebration is not directed at an opponent.”

Atlanta Hawks managed to close out the game even without Trae Young, beating the Bulls 123-118 and improving their record to 22-42.

On the night of 2018 NBA Draft, Atlanta Hawks decided to trade down, sending their No.3 pick to Dallas Mavericks and allowing them to draft Slovenian sensation Luka Doncic. After Doncic started tearing up the league in his rookie season, many people started questioning Hawks’ decision especially since the player they drafted instead, Oklahoma’s Trae Young, is struggling to be consistently productive in the pros.

Young recently made an appearance on ESPN‘s The Jump and decided to address the almost unanimous opinion that Mavericks got the better part of the deal in this trade saying. According to the 20-year-old, the trade worked out for both teams.

“Obviously I hear everything that goes on. You can’t miss it,” – said Young. “Luka’s having a really good year so far. And for me, all I do is try to focus on myself and my team. I know it’s easy to say, but I’m really dedicated to working extremely hard every day for my teammates and things like that.”

“And I think at the end of the day it worked out for both teams” – he added.

Even though Luka Doncic is playing sensational basketball this season and might even be an All-Star in his rookie year, Trae Young is convinced he’ll be a better player in the future.

“In my eyes, it’s not a question — it’s going to be me,” – Young responded when being asked who will be a better basketball player in five to 10 years. “But that’s just the competitive nature in my blood, and I think that’s the no-brainer with me.”

Although he entered the league with a reputation of being a sharpshooter and a gifted passer, Trae Young struggled for the better part of the season.  His three-point shot is especially alarming since he is currently shooting just 29.0 percent behind the arc. Young played a total of 49 games with the Hawks this season and is averaging 16.4 points, 3.2 rebounds, and 7.3 assists per game.
