]]>Los Angeles Angels’ infielder Tommy La Stella was set to make his first All-Star appearance next week, but we guess it just wasn’t meant to be. La Stella suffered a fractured tibia in Tuesday night’s game against the Texas Rangers and is now facing with eight to 10 weeks rehab period.
La Stella was injured in the sixth inning of the Rangers game when he hit the ball which ended up ricocheting off the bat and hitting him in the upper right shin.
The 30-year-old was having a career season in 2019, batting .300 with 16 home runs and 44 RBIs in 78 games.
La Stella will be replaced by Tampa Bay Rays infielder Brandon Lowe on AL All-Star roster.
“The entire team feels awful for Tommy,” – said Angels’ manager Brad Ausmus said. “He came over here and has had this breakout season, he’s named to the All-Star team, and six days before the break he gets a two-month injury. You just feel awful for Tommy. It’s a blow to our team, no question.”
Tommy La Stella made his MLB debut with the Atlanta Braves in 2014 but ended up spending just one season with the organization before being traded to Chicago Cubs. He managed to win World Series in Chicago in 2016 before being traded to Angels following the end of 2018 MLB season.
La Stella’s MLB career stats include .274 batting average, 26 homers, and 138 RBIs.
