Houston Texans are once again on the market for a defensive tackle after their deal with veteran Timmy Jernigan fell through.

Texans initially agreed on a one-year, $3.75 million contract with Jernigan in April but the agreement was never finalized. Reportedly, the 31-year-old DT never took his physical and the two sides will now go their separate ways.

Jernigan himself confirmed that the deal with Texans is off via post on social media. “Guess I’m not goin to Houston..but the show not ova,” Jernigan wrote on Instagram.

Timmy Jernigan started his career with Baltimore Ravens, who took him in the second round of 2014 NFL Draft. He was traded to Philadelphia Eagles in 2017 and played a significant role in team’s road to Super Bowl win that season starting all but one game for the entire regular season and playoffs.

Jernigan, however, struggled to stay on the field after the Super Bowl campaign as neck and foot injuries limited him to only 12 starts in the past two seasons. Eagles eventually decided to let him walk this season after his contract with the organization expired.

Despite the fact that his deal with Texans fell through, Jernigan is expected to attract interest from NFL teams that look for a veteran presence on their defensive line.  Houston, on the other hand, will most likely rely upon rookie Ross Blacklock if they are not able to add another DT before the season starts.
