The Minnesota Timberwolves won’t be swept in their first-round series against the top-seeded Denver Nuggets after all. Their All-Star Anthony Edwards delivered a huge performance in a 108-114 overtime win on Sunday night to keep the Wolves alive in the playoffs for at least one more game.

The Timberwolves had to work hard for their win, failing to close out the game in regular time. Despite being up by 12 with less than three minutes left on the clock, they watched the Nuggets erase their lead and force overtime. However, Denver didn’t have enough gas to make a full comeback, with Minnesota getting the job done in the extra period to make it 1-3 in the series.

Edwards stepped up big-time for the Timberwolves, finishing the night with 34 points, six rebounds, and five assists while adding two steals and three blocks. Rudy Gobert had 14 points and 15 rebounds, while Karl-Anthony Towns had 17 points and 11 boards.

“I don’t ever want to say I got swept in my career,” Edwards, who is averaging 32.3 points in playoffs this season, said after the game. “So I definitely took it personally tonight.”

The Wolves and Edwards will now have to return to Denver and try to do it all again if they want to make this a series.

Minnesota Timberwolves center Naz Reid is set to be sidelined for six weeks after he undergoes surgery on his broken wrist, sources revealed to ESPN on Friday.

Reid broke his wrist after trying to brace himself as he fell to the ground after being fouled in the fourth quarter of the Timberwolves’ 107-100 road loss to the Phoenix Suns on Wednesday night.

He underwent an MRI scan on Thursday which revealed a left scaphoid fracture between his hand and forearm on the thumb side of his wrist. The 23-year-old’s absence is a major concern for the Timberwolves given his importance to the team. Currently, Reid has led the team in scoring in six games this season, averaging 11.5 points and 4.9 rebounds per game with 53.7% shooting from the floor – all career bests.

Going into the final five games of the regular season, the Timberwolves are currently 39-38. They are currently one game out of the number six spot on the Western Conference standings; a rank that would enable them to avoid the play-in tournament.

Minnesota Timberwolves star Anthony Edwards was helped off the court during the team’s 139-131 loss to the Chicago Bulls in double overtime on Friday night. Edwards landed awkwardly after leaping to pass the ball with 4:01 left on the clock in the first quarter.

Edwards, who collapsed after injuring his right ankle in the fall, was unable to put any weight on his ankle following the incident. A team trainer and teammate Karl-Anthony Towns helped to carry him to the locker room, with the team announcing at half-time that Edwards would not be returning to the game.

“I couldn’t walk on it, so I knew it was a wrap,” the All-Star revealed after the game. “See how it feels tomorrow.” With the severity of Edwards’ injury still unknown, the Timberwolves are faced with a crisis up top as star center Karl-Anthony Towns continued to remain sidelined after incurring a calf injury on November 28. The team announced, however, that Towns may return to the court in the coming weeks.

Following their double-overtime defeat, the Timberwolves are now in 8th position on the Western Conference standings with a 35-36 record.

Veteran guard Austin Rivers is set to play on his sixth different team in as many seasons. According to his agency CAA Sports, Rivers will suit up for the Minnesota Timberwolves in 2022-23 after agreeing to a one-year deal with the franchise.

Rivers spent the past season with the Denver Nuggets, where he played 67 games and averaged 6.0 points, 1.7 rebounds, and 1.3 assists per game. In Minnesota, he will reunite with Tim Connelly, who was a longtime Nuggets president of baseball operations before accepting the same position with the Timberwolves back in May.

While Rivers’ career seems to be on the downward trajectory in recent years, he should be a quality depth piece for Minnesota’s backcourt. He should help fill the hole left by the departure of Malik Beasley and Patrick Beverley, who were sent to the Utah Jazz as part of the Rudy Gobert trade.

Austin Rivers was the 10th overall pick in the 2012 NBA Draft by the New Orleans Pelicans. After being slow to adapt to the NBA, the Duke prospect was sent to Los Angeles Clippers, who were coached by his father, Doc Rivers. While in LA, Rivers Jr. played his best basketball and posted career numbers that included averaging 15.1 points and 4.0 assists in 2017–18.

Rivers left LA immediately after his big year and was somewhat of an NBA journeyman since, suiting up for the Washington Wizards, the New York Knicks, the Houston Rockets, and the Nuggets.

The Minnesota Timberwolves have hired Tim Connelly as their new president of basketball operations, the team announced on Monday. Currently the president of basketball operations for the Denver Nuggets, the basketball executive will join the Wolves on a five-year deal worth over $40 million.

While the specific terms of the contract are yet to be shared publicly, the deal is expected to make Connelly one of the highest-paid executives in the NBA.

Connelly’s appointment is a major step in the Wolves’ plan to develop a stable leadership structure. He met with Timberwolves minority owners Marc Lore and Alex Rodriguez last week to discuss the role and had one final meeting with majority owner Glen Taylor prior to signing the deal.

“My family and I couldn’t be more excited to join the Timberwolves organization”, Connelly stated following the conclusion of the deal. “I appreciate Glen, Becky, Marc, and Alex’s confidence in me to lead this organization and I can’t wait to get to work to build an elite franchise that our fans can continue to be proud of.”

While the Nuggets offered Connelly a significant pay increase in a last-ditch effort to keep him at the franchise, this offer still paled in comparison to the Wolves’ contract.

Minnesota Timberwolves have officially given up on the dream to make the playoffs this season. The team announced on Thursday that their guards Derrick Rose and Jeff Teague, as well as forward Robert Covington, will be out for the rest of the season.

Rose missed Minnesota’s last four games due to soreness in his right elbow. Now, the MRI scan revealed some chip fracture in the elbow, so the team decided not to risk more serious injury. The 30-year-old former MVP has been enjoying a great season so far, averaging 18.0 points, 2.7 rebounds, and 4.3 assists per game.

In addition, Teague has been dealing with a left foot injury that caused him to miss games on multiple occasions this season. He was averaging 12.1 points and 8.2 assists per game before being shut down for the season.

Covington, who joined Minnesota in November as part of Jimmy Butler trade, managed to play 22 games with Timberwolves before being sidelined with a bone bruise in his knee. He was averaging 14.5 points, 5.7 rebounds, and 2.3 steals per game.

Minnesota Timberwolves currently find themselves 10th in the Western Conference with a 32-40 record and are on a five-game losing streak.

Derrick Rose was left in tears after scoring 50 points in Wednesday’s Timberwolves 128-125 win over the Utah Jazz.

Rose turned back the clock to display his 2011 MVP performance when he last scored more than 40 points in a game. On Wednesday, the 30-year-old did it all. He scored from distance, converted free throws and scored points at the rim. When the game was over, the Timberwolves were 4-4 this season and Rose was up in tears.

When asked what the game meant to him, Rose said, “Everything, I worked my ass off, bro. I went and did this for the franchise, the organization, the fans, everybody man. I played my heart out. My teammates told me before the game, just play my game. And tonight was a hell of a night.”

James Butler was conspicuously missing from the Timberwolves team as he opted not to play in pursuit of a trade out of Minnesota. Point guard Jeff Teague was also sidelined, leaving Rose to rise up and reignite the stardom that once defined him.

The 30-year-old has been in and out of the NBA with injuries. But on Wednesday, he showed the world just why no one should ever give up. In addition to the 50 points he scored, Rose made six assists, four rebounds, two steals and a last-minute block against the Jazz.
