Former quarterback and recently retired baseball player Tim Tebow is looking to get another chance in the NFL. But it won’t be under center this time. According to multiple reports, Tebow has agreed on a one-year deal in principle with the Jacksonville Jaguars and will play as a tight end. The move is expected to be official next week.

Tebow previously approached the Jags and asked for a trial at the tight end position. The team ended up giving the 33-year-old player a chance, and it appears he did enough to at least land a contract.

Jacksonville’s new head coach Urban Meyer is believed to have a major role in signing Tebow. Meyer previously coached Tebow at Florida, winning two national championships with him as the Gators’ quarterback.

Tebow, who grew up in Jacksonville, faces a tough job securing a place on the Jags’ roster despite his connections with Meyer. He hasn’t played football professionally since 2015, and he also has serious competition from the other five TEs who are on the Jaguars’ payroll.

Following his second national championship win with Florida, Tim Tebow was drafted 25th overall by the Denver Broncos in 2010. In his rookie season, Tebow led the Broncos to a playoff win and then posted a 7-4 record as a starter in his sophomore year.

During the 2012 offseason, Denver managed to land Peyton Manning in free agency and traded Tebow to the Jets. He managed to make just two starts in New York before bouncing around the league and ending his football career in 2015.

After retirement from NFL, Tebow worked as a college analyst while trying to make it as a professional baseball player. He then spent time with the New York Mets organization, playing in the minors.

Tebow announced his retirement from baseball in early 2021 despite receiving an invite to Mets’ spring training camp.

Tim Tebow has decided to stop chasing his dream of playing in the MLB. The former NFL quarterback and minors outfielder announced on Wednesday that he is putting an end to his baseball career.

Tebow spent the last four years with the New York Mets, playing in the minors and taking part in the team’s spring training each preseason. The Mets recently extended the invite for 2021 as well, but the 33-year-old athlete opted to take a pass and instead walk away from the game.

The news was confirmed by Tebow on social media. He thanked the Mets organization, fans, and teammates on Twitter while writing that he “loved every minute of the journey” but feels “called in other directions.”

“It has been a pleasure to have Tim in our organization, as he’s been a consummate professional during his four years with the Mets,” said Mets general manager Sandy Alderson in a statement.

After wrapping up his NFL career, Tim Tebow expressed interest in trying out baseball. He was previously an all-state player while in high school and received interest from MLB teams before deciding to pursue a football career.

Tebow agreed to a minor league deal with the Mets in 2016 and saw action with several of the team’s affiliates, including the Binghamton Rumble Ponies and Syracuse Mets. He batted .273 with six home runs and 36 RBIs with the Ponies in 2018 while managing just a .163 batting average, four homers, and 19 RBIs with Syracuse the following year.

Following the end of his baseball career, Tebow will most likely focus on broadcasting. He currently works as ESPN’s college football analyst.

Quarterback-turned-outfielder Tim Tebow will get another opportunity to try and make it in the MLB.

The New York Mets announced the non-roster invitees for 2021 spring training over the weekend, with Tebow making the cut. The 33-year-old former footballer has been part of the team’s spring camp for the past four years.

On previous occasions, Tebow failed to impress and had a .134 batting average in 34 spring games. He had one home run, which came last year in a 9-6 loss to the Detroit Tigers.

Tebow has three seasons of experience in the minors, suiting up for Mets affiliates St. Lucie, Columbia, Binghamton, and Syracuse on various levels. He had solid numbers despite multiple injury issues, batting .223 with 18 homers and 107 RBIs in 287 games.

Tim Tebow will have to show much more this year if he wants to make it to the majors. The New York Mets have big ambitions under their new ownership and are looking to be contenders in the 2021 MLB season. If that’s the case, the organization won’t be able to afford to give Tebow a chance if they don’t believe he can actually help their cause.

Before venturing into baseball, Tebow previously played as a quarterback for the Denver Broncos and New York Jets in the NFL. He was also a successful college player, winning two BCS national champion titles with the Florida Gators.

On Friday we got another proof that baseball career of former Denver Broncos quarterback Tim Tebow is for real. It was announced that Tebow, who plays as an outfielder for the New York Mets’ Double-A affiliate Binghamton Rumble Ponies, made the Eastern League All-Star team. Four other Rumble Ponies’ players – Patrick Mazeika, Levi Michael, Nabil Crismatt and Daniel Zamora – also made the team.

Tim Tebow played 67 games in 2018 season and has been getting better with each passing month. He is batting .261 with 12 doubles and has five home runs alongside 30 RBI. His good games obviously didn’t go unnoticed and even the coaches around the league recognized his progress.

I saw him last year at [Single-A] Columbia. He’s come a really long way,” -Class AA Hartford manager Warren Schaeffer told New York Post. “He’s a tough out right now. We had a really tough time against Tim Tebow. He hits fastballs well. He’s a strong kid. His approach has gotten a lot better. He’s spitting on pitches now he wasn’t early on this year. You can tell he works hard. Before, you could beat him with a lot of stuff. You beat him hard in, beat him soft away. He had a quite a few holes [in his swing] earlier on. Now the holes have gotten smaller and smaller.”

After winning Heisman Trophy and two National Championships as the quarterback for Florida Gators, Tim Tebow was selected 25th overall by the Denver Broncos in the 2010 NFL Draft. His game, however, didn’t translate to NFL and he didn’t play a single game in the league since 2012.

In 2016, when it became evident that he will not get another chance in NFL, Tim Tebow declared an interest to play baseball professionally. He ended up signing a minor league contract with the New York Mets and played for several affiliates before getting promoted to Binghamton Rumble Ponies.
