Veteran right-hander Michael Lorenzen has reportedly agreed to a one-year contract with the reigning World Series champions Texas Rangers. According to Ken Rosenthal of The Athletic, the deal is worth $4.5 million, and Lorenzen could earn another $2.5 million in incentives.

Lorenzen started the 2023 season with the Detroit Tigers and earned a first career All-Star nod before being traded to the Philadelphia Phillies. He struggled during his stint with the Phillies and was moved out of rotation later in the season, causing him to sit out on the free agent market longer than expected.

Lorenzen went 5-7 with a 3.58 ERA and 83 strikeouts in 18 starts with the Tigers last season before being traded to Philadelphia in August in exchange for infielder prospect Hao-Yu Lee. He had a dream debut for the Phillies, throwing a no-hitter in a 7–0 win over the Washington Nationals and becoming just the 14th player in franchise history to achieve this feat.

However, since his no-hitter, Lorenzen largely struggled at the mound. He posted a 7.96 ERA in the following five starts and was demoted to the bullpen. Lorenzen was even left out of the National League Wild Card roster before returning for the NLDS and NLCS series.

Michael Lorenzen made his MLB debut in 2015 and spent the first seven years of his career with the Cincinnati Reds. He spent the 2022 season with the Los Angeles Angels before signing a one-year deal with the Tigers ahead of the 2023 campaign. Lorenzen has a 40-38 record in the majors with a 4.11 ERA and 602 strikeouts.

The team removed the pair from their active roster as both players suffered injuries in Game 3; a devastating setback for a team that’s just one game away from winning their maiden championship in franchise history.

Hours before their 11-7 win over the Arizona Diamondbacks, the Rangers made the difficult call to exclude both players. The team is now leading 3-1 in the best-of-seven series.

Garcia was suffering a “moderate strain”, Rangers manager Bruce Bochy explained, leading to the player undergoing imaging. He tweaked his left oblique in the eighth inning, at which point he was taken off for utility man Ezequiel Duran. Scherzer was suffering back spasms before he was removed from play and replaced by left-hander Brock Burke.

The Texas Rangers pitcher Max Scherzer is determined to play in Game 3 of the World Series on Monday night despite getting a cut on his right thumb. The Rangers’ medical staff used super glue and cotton to create a protective layer around his thumb in order to allow the starting pitcher to step up to the plate.

“A little arts and crafts in the training room at times,” Scherzer jokingly said before continuing, “but that’s what you’ve got to do.” Amid conflicting opinions, Scherzer believes that his cut developed due to his hand not being as callused due to the time he took off after suffering a shoulder injury.

During mid-September, Scherzer incurred a low-grade strain of the teres muscle in his right shoulder, believed to be a result of strain due to constantly throwing at a high intensity. Still, the 39-year-old player insists that he is getting over this shoulder issue.

The Texas Rangers continued their dominant postseason run on Monday night by getting a 5-4 win against the Houston Astros in a closely contested Game 2 of the American League Championship Series.

The Rangers now hold a 2-0 lead in the ALCS and have improved to a 7-0 record in the postseason.

The Rangers rushed to the 5-1 lead by the top of the third but then had to withstand a furious comeback bid by the Astros down the stretch. Houston started chipping away at Texas’ lead, and it seemed like they could turn things around.

Fortunately for the Rangers, they did just enough to keep the Astros at bay, with ace Nathan Eovaldi playing a big part in preserving the lead. Eovaldi allowed five hits while striking out nine before making his way out after six innings.

“I feel like in those big moments, you’ve got to bear down and make big pitches,” Eovaldi said after the game. “The stadium is crazy. You have all the fans and everything going nuts. But at the same time you try to simplify everything down to your strengths and what you do best.”

The Rangers are now pursuing their first World Series appearance since 2011 while also having a chance to make some history. If they win Game 3, which is scheduled for Wednesday, they will tie the Kansas City Royals’ record of eight straight wins to start the postseason.

The Texas Rangers could get their ace Max Scherzer back for the playoffs after all. Speaking with reporters on Thursday, Scherzer said that he is encouraged by his progress and described his latest bullpen session as “pain free”.

Scherzer suffered a right shoulder sprain in early September and hasn’t pitched since. The Rangers believed at the time that the 39-year-old would not return to action unless they made a deep playoff run.

However, Scherzer seems to believe that he can beat the odds.

“Last week was a light bullpen, this one was for real,” Scherzer told reporters. “I was able to step on it more. And it was pain free.”

Scherzer joined the Rangers from the New York Mets ahead of the trade deadline, with Texas believing he can solidify their status as a World Series contender. He had a 4-2 with a 3.20 ERA in eight starts. Overall in 2023, the three-time Cy Young Award-winner is 13-7 with a 3.77 ERA and 174 strikeouts.

The Rangers took care of the business in the NL wild-card series, sweeping the Texas Rangers. They will now face the Baltimore Orioles in the NL Divisional Series. Game 1 is scheduled for Saturday.

Texas Rangers’ ace Max Scherzer was placed on Injured List on Wednesday with a shoulder muscle strain. Scherzer won’t play in the regular season anymore and is unlikely to pitch in the playoffs if the Rangers end up making them.

Scherzer got hurt during the 6-3 win over the Toronto Blue Jays earlier this week and was forced to exit the game in the sixth inning.

Speaking with reporters, Rangers’ general manager Chris Young said that Scherzer will get re-evaluated in a couple of weeks but isn’t expected to need surgery.

“It’s certainly bad news today,” Young said. “We’re very sorry for Max, obviously. It’s the last thing he wanted; he’s such a competitor, and he was pitching great last night when this happened.”

Scherzer started the 2023 MLB season with the New York Mets, playing 19 games and going 9-4 with a 4.01 ERA and 121 strikeouts. With the Mets deciding to punt on their campaign after a poor start, the 39-year-old player left New York in a blockbuster trade to join the Rangers.

Since joining the Rangers, Scherzer compiled a 4-2 record in eight games, alongside a 3.20 ERA and 53 strikeouts.

Previously a lock to make the postseason, the Texas Rangers have struggled to maintain momentum in recent weeks. They are currently second in the AL West, trailing one game to the leading Houston Astros but also having just 1.5 games in hand over the third-placed Seattle Mariners.

Veteran pitcher Max Scherzer had his first loss as a member of the Texas Rangers against the Milwaukee Brewers on Sunday, but it wasn’t all that bad for the 39-year-old player. Scherzer had four strikeouts in a 6-2 defeat and moved up to 11th place on MLB’s all-time strikeout list.

Scherzer now has 3,344 career strikeouts, which was enough to jump over Hall of Famer Phil Niekro.

Despite reaching an important milestone, Scherzer didn’t feel festive after the game.

“I’m here to win,” Scherzer told reporters. “I’m not here for milestones. I’m not here for accomplishments.”

Scherzer arrived with the Rangers in a blockbuster trade from the New York Mets ahead of the MLB trade deadline. He won his first three starts as a Ranger but couldn’t get going against the Brewers.

“Weird start. You know, it’s not like I got hit around,” he added. “They had a really good approach against me and just found a way to take their walks. It just didn’t feel like I was putting guys away, especially when I got the two strikes.”

Scherzer is 12-5 in 23 starts this season with the Mets and the Rangers. He has a 3.77 ERA, his highest since 2011, and 151 strikeouts.

The Rangers are currently on a four-game losing streak but are still at the top of the AL West with a 72-52 record.

The Texas Rangers ace Jacob DeGrom might not be ready to return to action just yet after being placed on Injured List with an elbow inflammation back in April. But the good news is that his recovery is “headed in the right direction.”

DeGrom had a 16-pitch bullpen session on Thursday and followed it up by throwing 24 pitches the day after. Speaking with reporters on Friday afternoon, the 34-year-old player said that he feels like he “turned the corner” after the session.

“Everything felt good,” said DeGrom. “Definitely headed in the right direction. I’m ready to go back out there.”

DeGrom added that he doesn’t know when he might get a rehab assignment and that he’s currently focused on getting as much progress in workouts as he can.

After spending the first eight years of his MLB career with the New York Mets, Jacob DeGrom inked a five-year, $185 million contract with the Rangers in the offseason. Before the injury, DeGrom made six starts and went 2-0 with a 2.67 ERA and 45 strikeouts.

The Rangers are currently sitting at the top of AL West with a 27-17 record. They have won six out of their last 10 games, including Friday’s game against the Colorado Rockies.

Texas Rangers right hander Jacob deGrom departed early from his team’s Monday night 4-0 victory against the Kansas City Royals after he suffered from right wrist soreness.

DeGrom managed to produce four hitless innings before his exit, striking out five and walking one. He threw 39 of his 58 pitches for strikes. His replacement, Dane Dunning, continued to apply the pressure to shut out the Royals’ batters.

“I felt it a little bit warming up,” deGrom said of his injury. “I thought it was going to loosen up and it actually tightened up a little bit as the game went on. We’re playing it smart. Could I have kept going? Probably. But it was lingering and it got a little bit worse as the game went on. I just want to play it safe. We’ve got a long season ahead of us.”

The Rangers confirmed that the decision to withdraw deGrom from the contest was purely precautionary, with deGrom adding that he does not feel too concerned about his wrist soreness. DeGrom signed a five-year, $185 million contract with the Rangers during the offseason, thereby securing a future in Texas.

Texas Rangers right-hander Jon Gray had his game on Saturday night cut short when his forearm was injured during the third inning of the Rangers’ 8-2 loss to the Houston Astros.

Gray’s forearm was bruised after being hit by a line drive. According to Rangers manager Bruce Bochy, Gray was left unable to see out the remainder of the game due to the growing numbness that he experienced in his arm after being hit.

Initially, it appeared as if Gray would see out the remainder of the game as he shook his arm off after being struck. Both Bochy and the team’s trainers came to check on Gray, after which Gray wiggled his fingers and threw a few warm-up pitches. He soon halted his throws, talking to the trainer before exiting the game.

Bochy revealed that despite Gray’s inability to play the remainder of the game, the player’s subsequent X-rays were negative, leaving Bochy hopeful that the right-handed starter will be able to return to action shortly.
