It’s an end of an era. Pro Bowl outside linebacker Terrell Suggs decided to leave Baltimore Ravens after 16 years with the franchise. According to ESPN, Suggs already broke the news to his Ravens’ teammates while NFL Network’s Ian Rappaport reports that the 36-year-old will sign with the Arizona Cardinals.

The news came as quite a surprise, since Terrell Suggs, who was the last remaining starter on defense who was part of the team that won Super Bowl in 2012, stated several times that he would like to finish his NFL career in Baltimore and be “Raven for life.” Instead, he will spend 2019 season as part of a rebuilding team in Arizona while Ravens continue to retool their defense as they previously released safety Eric Weddle while linebacker C.J. Mosley is expected to leave in free agency.

Despite his advanced age, Suggs proved that he can still be an impactful player as he started all 16 games for the Ravens in 2018. He had 34 tackles and 7.0 sacks alongside one fumble recovery for a touchdown.

Terrell Suggs will leave the Baltimore Ravens as one of best players in the franchise history and one of the most accomplished pass rushers in the league’s history. During his career, Suggs managed to get 132.5 sacks, which rank him first among all active players and 13th on the all-time list. He has seven Pro Bowl appearances alongside one First-team All-Pro honor while being named NFL Defensive Player of the Year in 2011.

Veteran outside linebacker Terrell Suggs spent his entire NFL career with the Baltimore Ravens and he would like to keep it that way. Speaking with the reporters after Wild-Card loss against the Los Angeles Chargers on Sunday, Suggs, who is entering the free agency this year, said he doesn’t think about ending his career just yet and would “love to be a Raven for life.”

“I would love to be a Raven for life,” – said Suggs. “I’m healthy. I feel like I’ve still got some juice in the tank. I would love to be a Raven for life.”

Despite being 36-years-old and playing his 16th season in the league in 2018, Terrell Suggs played solid football this season. He started all 16 games and had 34 tackles to go with seven tackles, which was second-highest mark among Baltimore’s players. This brought Suggs to 135.5 career sacks, which ranked him 13th on the NFL’s all-time sacks.

While Suggs isn’t getting any younger, he has proved that he still can play on a high level, so it would make sense for Ravens to bring him back if the price is right. Still, if the organization chooses to move on from him, he still intends to play in 2019.

“It’s up to them,” – Suggs told reporters about his contract situation. “I mean, we’ll have to see what happens. It’s a long time between here and March, so we’re just going to enjoy it, hope we can work it out. But if not, I’m going to be lining up for somebody next year.”
