The Detroit Lions’ backup quarterback Teddy Bridgewater will see out the 2023 NFL season and then ride off into the sunset. The 31-year-old player revealed his intention to retire in an interview with the Detroit Free Press.

Bridgewater signed a one-year deal with the Lions in the offseason to back starter Jared Goff. He made an appearance in only one game in 2023, kneeling three times to close out the 42-24 win over the Carolina Panthers.

According to Bridgewater, he thought about retiring after last season, but Lions’ head coach Dan Campbell convinced him to return for another run. And even if he didn’t get to play, Bridgewater says he doesn’t regret the decision.

“Whatever was meant for me, it played out the exact way it was meant,” Bridgewater said. “And I’m still with that mindset every day, and I’m just really appreciative that I’m in Year 10. I tell everyone this is my last year, so I’m in my final year, and I’m just enjoying it all, man.”

Teddy Bridgewater started his pro career as the last selection of the first round in 2014 by the Minnesota Vikings. He made a Pro Bowl in his sophomore year after leading the Vikings to an 11−5 record. However, a freak knee injury at team practice during the 2016 offseason halted his rise to stardom and caused him to miss almost two full seasons.

Bridgewater later resumed his career and had stints with the New York Jets, New Orleans Saints, Carolina Panthers, Denver Broncos, and the Miami Dolphins. Unfortunately, he never returned to his pre-injury level, which likely played a role in retiring during what are considered prime years for quarterbacks.

Bridgewater revealed that he intends to stay involved in football and plans to coach a high school football team.

The Detroit Lions solidified their quarterback position with veteran signal-caller Teddy Bridgewater. The team reportedly added Bridgewater to a one-year deal with the intention of making him their backup quarterback behind starter Jared Goff.

Bridgewater spent the 2022 campaign with the Miami Dolphins, playing in five games, including two starts. He completed 62.0 percent of his passes while throwing for 683 yards, four touchdowns, and four picks.

It was no secret that the Lions wanted to get a proven quarterback option in the building. The team expects to be competitive this year and wanted someone that could win them games even if Goff gets injured. Bridgewater, with his experience as a high-end backup, fits the description.

With Bridgewater on their roster, the Lions will likely move away from veteran Nate Sudfeld. They also have this year’s third-round pick Hendon Hooker on their roster, but the Tennessee product is currently recovering from an ACL injury.

Teddy Bridgewater started his career with the Minnesota Vikings, who took him with the final pick of the first round in the 2014 NFL Draft. Bridgewater ended up winning the starting job early in his rookie season before leading the Vikings to an 11-5 record in his sophomore year and earning a Pro Bowl nod.

Bridgewater’s pro career came to a halt after he suffered a serious knee injury during the 2016 offseason. After two years away from football, he left Minnesota and spent time with the New Orleans Saints, the Carolina Panthers, and the Denver Broncos.

It looks like Teddy Bridgewater is set to play for yet another team this upcoming season. The Carolina Panthers announced on Wednesday that they had traded the quarterback to the Denver Broncos in exchange for a sixth-round pick in the upcoming NFL Draft. This will be the third team that Bridgewater plays for in three seasons.

Carolina’s motivations aren’t so hard to see. They only recently acquired quarterback Sam Darnold from the New York Jets, and it appears as though he’ll be their priority at the QB helm moving forward.

Carolina will receive the 191st draft pick from Denver, and in return they’ll do more than just hand over Bridgewater. The Panthers are also expected to pay $7 million out of his salary in the upcoming season, which gave the Broncos an even larger incentive to follow through with the trade.

Teddy Bridgewater has had a rocky career, dealing with injuries and coming off the bench for much of it. He started his career playing for the Minnesota Vikings, and years later moved to the New Orleans Saints where he was Drew Brees’ backup.

Last season, he got the opportunity to be a full-time starter when he was acquired by the Panthers. But now it looks as though he’ll have to prove himself for another team. We have yet to see how he’ll do as a Bronco, but expect him to come out of the gate strong.

After just one year with Teddy Bridgewater as their starting quarterback, the Carolina Panthers are reportedly ready to make a change.

In a recent Monday Morning Quarterback (MMQB) piece, Sports Illustrated’s Albert Breer wrote that the Panthers are exploring other options at the QB position and would like to “move on” from Bridgewater. Breer’s sources told him that the reason for this is Bridgewater’s “physical limitations” that he displayed in his first season with the organization.

The report from Breer fits the Panthers’ recent interest in other quarterbacks on the market. They previously tried to get Matthew Stafford before he was traded to the LA Rams, and the franchise was also monitoring the situation regarding Houston Texans’ Pro Bowler Deshaun Watson.

Carolina chasing other signal-callers reportedly didn’t sit well with Bridgewater, and he recently decided to unfollow the Panthers on various social media platforms, including Instagram.

The Panthers signed Teddy Bridgewater to a three-year, $63 million contract last offseason after he had an impressive showing with the New Orleans Saints in 2019. Bridgewater put up career numbers in his first year in Carolina, but that apparently wasn’t enough to impress the coaching staff.

Bridgewater completed 69.1 percent of his passes in 2020 while throwing for 3,733 yards and 15 touchdowns. The Panthers had a 4-11 record with him under center.

It turns out that Carolina Panthers didn’t move on from their franchise QB Cam Newton because of health concerns. According to Panthers’ new head coach Matt Rhule, the team simply believed Teddy Bridgewater was a better fit for them.

Panthers announced their decision to part ways with Newton in late March, bringing to an end his nine-year stint with the organization to an end. Shortly after that, the team snapped up Bridgewater from the free agency market and handed him a three-year, $63 million deal.

“We saw the opportunity to get Teddy and really felt like he was the right fit for us,” Rhule explained the team’s decision in a recent video conference with reporters. “We went ahead and made that call, not an easy call, but one we thought was the best one moving forward.”

Rhule added that one of the reasons why they went with Bridgewater is his familiarity with the offense that the team’s new offensive coordinator Joe Brady wants to run. The duo worked together in 2018 when Brady was an offensive assistant with the Saints.

“We felt like this was the time to go in this direction and bring Teddy on,” he explained. “His relationship with Joe, knowing the offense, the things that he has done in this offense just made sense to us.”

Panthers first tried to trade Cam Newton after bringing Bridgewater but weren’t able to find a trade partner. The teams were reluctant to give up assets as Newton missed all but two games in 2019 due to foot injury. Carolina ended up releasing the 30-year-old, making him a free agent.

Quarterback Teddy Bridgewater had several opportunities during the offseason to join a team where he would be a candidate for a starting spot. Instead, Bridgewater decided to re-sign with the New Orleans Saints and sit behind Drew Brees for one more season.

Bridgewater recently discussed his decision with Luke Johnson of The Times-Picayune and revealed that he was motivated by the opportunity to get better as a football player.

“This is the best opportunity for me to grow as a player,” – said Bridgewater.

While Bridgewater won’t get a chance to play much football in 2019, he will have a chance to learn from one of the best.

“As a competitor you want to be out there starting and competing,” – he added. “But I just sat back and I weighed my options and thought about what would be best for me. This is an opportunity for me to grow, continue to learn and expand my mental capacity as a football player.”

After being the starting quarterback for Minnesota Vikings during his first two years as a pro, Teddy Bridgewater suffered a leg injury which sidelined him for almost two years. Following his recovery, Vikings opted against giving him a new deal, so Bridgewater ended up signing with the New York Jets in 2018.

As the Jets already drafted their quarterback of the future in Sam Darnold, the team decided to trade Bridgewater to New Orleans after he had a strong showing during the preseason games.

Bridgwater’s NFL career stats include 64.6 percent pass completion, 6,268 passing yards and 29 passing touchdowns alongside 403 rushing yards and four rushing TDs.

Miami Dolphins made one last attempt to sign free agent quarterback Teddy Bridgewater but didn’t manage to convince the 26-year-old to change teams. According to Yahoo Sports, Bridgewater snubbed Dolphins and will re-sing with the New Orleans Saints.

Bridgewater will ink a one-year, $7.25 million deal with the Saints, where he will serve as a backup for Drew Brees for a second year in a row. The overall value of the contract might go up to $12.5 million based on incentives.

Dolphins are not exactly happy with Ryan Tannehill’s health and plays in recent seasons, so they intended to sign Teddy Bridgewater and have a competition for a starting quarterback. Bridgewater, who was born in Miami, met with the team on Wednesday but ended up deciding to stick around with the Saints. He is hoping that he might be a successor to Brees once the 40-year-old veteran decides to retire.

Bridgewater started his NFL career with the Minnesota Vikings, who took him 32nd overall in 2014 draft. He played two impressive seasons with the Vikings and led them to playoffs in 2015, but ended up suffering a horrific leg injury in 2016 which sidelined him for almost two years.

Vikings decided not to re-sing Teddy Bridgewater after his contract expired in 2018 and he ended up signing with New York Jets. Bridgewater had a strong showing in the team’s preseason games, but ended up being on the trading block as Jets already intended to give the starting job to Sam Darnold, their third overall pick in 2017 NFL Draft.

Bridgewater ended up with Saints, who gave up a third round pick for him. He made his debut for New Orleans in Week 17, completing 14 out of 22 passes attempted for 118 yards, and a touchdown.

After weeks of tinkering, the New York Jets finally decided to cash in on their highly sought-after quarterback Teddy Bridgewater. Jets confirmed on Wednesday that they had sent Bridgewater alongside 2019 sixth-round draft pick to the New Orleans Saints, receiving a 2019 third-round pick in exchange.

This move by the Jets was widely expected since the franchise wanted to start rookie Sam Darnold from Week 1 after the 2018’s third overall pick impressed during the two preseason games.

In his time with us, Teddy was the consummate professional, a great teammate and a tremendous leader,” –said Jets general manager Mike Maccagnan in a statement. “He worked diligently with our medical staff and made tremendous strides along the way. We wish him nothing but success in the future.”

With this trade, Saints decided to invest in their future. They gave away a valuable pick and will commit $5 million of their $10 million in salary-cap space for Teddy Bridgewater, which is a lot for a backup QB. But, Bridgewater could emerge as a potential successor to Drew Brees, who might be looking towards retirement in the next couple of years.

Teddy Bridgewater signed with the Jets in March and has put a string of excellent performances in the preseason, which encouraged teams to explore trade options for the 25-year-old. Several teams including Denver Broncos, Miami Dolphins, and Tampa Bay Buccaneers were reportedly interested, but it looks like New Orleans Saints were ready to pay the highest price.

We are excited to add Teddy Bridgewater to our team,” –said Saints coach Sean Payton in a statement. “We look forward to working with him and watching him continue to develop as a player.”

After two good preseason games, New York Jets’ quarterback Teddy Bridgewater is becoming attractive to other NFL teams. According to New York Daily News‘ Manish Mehta, at least two teams have called the Jets to ask about trade options for Bridgewater while there are several other teams who are thinking about making a move.

New York Jets signed Teddy Bridgewater in March, considering him a potential Week 1 starter for the 2018 season. But having veteran Josh McCown and drafting Sam Darnold third overall in NFL 2018 Draft, Jets started showing signs that they wouldn’t mind moving Bridgewater for the right offer.

The 25-year-old completed 17 out of 23 passes for 212 yards in the two preseason games while adding two touchdowns. This showing is particularly impressive considering the fact that he didn’t play serious football two years before that.

Reportedly, Denver Broncos are one of the interested parties. Broncos general manager John Elway recently hinted at the possibility of adding another QB as a reliable option for their starter Case Keenum. Other teams that are being mentioned as Teddy Bridgewater’s potential suitors are Miami Dolphins and Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

Teddy Bridgewater was drafted by the Minnesota Vikings in 2014 and immediately showed that he could be team’s quarterback of the future. He had an impressive rookie season, having won six games in 12 starts and being named Pepsi NFL Rookie of the Year. In his sophomore year, he led the Vikings to playoffs and earned himself a Pro-Bowl selection.

Bridgwaters’ NFL career had a significant setback in 2016 after he suffered a non-contact injury in his left leg, tearing his ACL. He missed two seasons of professional football, and Vikings opted against renewing his contract in 2018.

In 28 NFL career starts, Teddy Bridgewater has 64.7 completion percentage with 6,150 passing yards and 28 touchdowns.

New York Jets’ quarterback Teddy Bridgewater now finally healthy and is feeling great about his chances to compete in 2018 season. After suffering torn ACL in his knee in 2016, the injury that kept him almost two years from professional football, Bridgewater is finally ready to officially announce his full recovery.

Speaking with reporters on Monday, the 25-year-old said that the chance to play football again is “a wonderful feeling.”

Right now, I’m doing everything I dreamed of doing — and that’s waking up and continuing to play football,” – Bridgewater said. “It’s a wonderful feeling. It gives me chills right now to think about it, knowing how the previous two years were.

Asked whether he thinks his knee will manage to keep with the pressure of competing for a starting job, Bridgewater responded with confidence.

I definitely feel like I’m good,” – he said. “With the training staff here, we’ve been definitely hitting it hard.”

So far, the career of Teddy Bridgewater didn’t go down as planned. After being drafted in the first round by Minnesota Vikings and winning the NFL Rookie of the Year award in 2014, Bridgewater was poised to be franchise’s quarterback of the future. Four years and one horrifying knee injury later, he finds himself with the New York Jets trying to resurrect his career.

Bridgewater signed a one-year deal with the Jets in March 2018 and is expected to fight for the starting job in the training camp. This won’t be such an easy task, considering the fact that Jets’ traded up in the 2018 NFL Draft to take USC’s QB Sam Darnold with the third overall pick. The only question now is whether the organization decides to patiently develop Darnold and give Bridgewater a chance to prove himself or gamble on the rookie from the start.
