After just one year with Teddy Bridgewater as their starting quarterback, the Carolina Panthers are reportedly ready to make a change.

In a recent Monday Morning Quarterback (MMQB) piece, Sports Illustrated’s Albert Breer wrote that the Panthers are exploring other options at the QB position and would like to “move on” from Bridgewater. Breer’s sources told him that the reason for this is Bridgewater’s “physical limitations” that he displayed in his first season with the organization.

The report from Breer fits the Panthers’ recent interest in other quarterbacks on the market. They previously tried to get Matthew Stafford before he was traded to the LA Rams, and the franchise was also monitoring the situation regarding Houston Texans’ Pro Bowler Deshaun Watson.

Carolina chasing other signal-callers reportedly didn’t sit well with Bridgewater, and he recently decided to unfollow the Panthers on various social media platforms, including Instagram.

The Panthers signed Teddy Bridgewater to a three-year, $63 million contract last offseason after he had an impressive showing with the New Orleans Saints in 2019. Bridgewater put up career numbers in his first year in Carolina, but that apparently wasn’t enough to impress the coaching staff.

Bridgewater completed 69.1 percent of his passes in 2020 while throwing for 3,733 yards and 15 touchdowns. The Panthers had a 4-11 record with him under center.

Quarterback Teddy Bridgewater had several opportunities during the offseason to join a team where he would be a candidate for a starting spot. Instead, Bridgewater decided to re-sign with the New Orleans Saints and sit behind Drew Brees for one more season.

Bridgewater recently discussed his decision with Luke Johnson of The Times-Picayune and revealed that he was motivated by the opportunity to get better as a football player.

“This is the best opportunity for me to grow as a player,” – said Bridgewater.

While Bridgewater won’t get a chance to play much football in 2019, he will have a chance to learn from one of the best.

“As a competitor you want to be out there starting and competing,” – he added. “But I just sat back and I weighed my options and thought about what would be best for me. This is an opportunity for me to grow, continue to learn and expand my mental capacity as a football player.”

After being the starting quarterback for Minnesota Vikings during his first two years as a pro, Teddy Bridgewater suffered a leg injury which sidelined him for almost two years. Following his recovery, Vikings opted against giving him a new deal, so Bridgewater ended up signing with the New York Jets in 2018.

As the Jets already drafted their quarterback of the future in Sam Darnold, the team decided to trade Bridgewater to New Orleans after he had a strong showing during the preseason games.

Bridgwater’s NFL career stats include 64.6 percent pass completion, 6,268 passing yards and 29 passing touchdowns alongside 403 rushing yards and four rushing TDs.

Miami Dolphins made one last attempt to sign free agent quarterback Teddy Bridgewater but didn’t manage to convince the 26-year-old to change teams. According to Yahoo Sports, Bridgewater snubbed Dolphins and will re-sing with the New Orleans Saints.

Bridgewater will ink a one-year, $7.25 million deal with the Saints, where he will serve as a backup for Drew Brees for a second year in a row. The overall value of the contract might go up to $12.5 million based on incentives.

Dolphins are not exactly happy with Ryan Tannehill’s health and plays in recent seasons, so they intended to sign Teddy Bridgewater and have a competition for a starting quarterback. Bridgewater, who was born in Miami, met with the team on Wednesday but ended up deciding to stick around with the Saints. He is hoping that he might be a successor to Brees once the 40-year-old veteran decides to retire.

Bridgewater started his NFL career with the Minnesota Vikings, who took him 32nd overall in 2014 draft. He played two impressive seasons with the Vikings and led them to playoffs in 2015, but ended up suffering a horrific leg injury in 2016 which sidelined him for almost two years.

Vikings decided not to re-sing Teddy Bridgewater after his contract expired in 2018 and he ended up signing with New York Jets. Bridgewater had a strong showing in the team’s preseason games, but ended up being on the trading block as Jets already intended to give the starting job to Sam Darnold, their third overall pick in 2017 NFL Draft.

Bridgewater ended up with Saints, who gave up a third round pick for him. He made his debut for New Orleans in Week 17, completing 14 out of 22 passes attempted for 118 yards, and a touchdown.
