The Tampa Bay Buccaneers have replenished their depleted pass rush with veteran outside linebacker Randy Gregory. The Bucs announced that Gregory joined on a one-year deal.

Gregory started the 2023 season with the Denver Broncos before being traded to the San Francisco 49ers. He played 16 games combined, producing 3.5 sacks, 20 tackles, and 10 QB hits.

The Buccaneers found themselves with a hole in their pass rush after seeing Pro Bowler Shaq Barrett leave in free agency. Gregory is expected to step in for Barrett, while the Bucs could also address the position through the draft, where they hold the 26th overall pick.

After a successful college campaign with Nebraska, Randy Gregory entered the 2015 NFL Draft as a presumed first-round pick. However, reports about his problematic behavior came to light before the draft night, causing him to slip to the second round, where he was taken by the Dallas Cowboys.

Gregory would go on to spend seven years with the Cowboys organization, but only played 50 games due to a number of suspensions. He missed the 2017 and 2019 seasons completely while also being suspended for all but two games in 2016.

Gregory’s career stats include 22.0 sacks, 117 tackles, 69 QB hits, and 10 forced fumbles.

Star wide receiver Mike Evans might not be “Buc for life” after all. According to The Athletic’s Dianna Russini, Evans plans to test free agency for the first time in his career.

Evans is set to become a free agent after he and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers failed to come to terms on an extension last season. Russini adds that the two sides remain in discussions but that Evans wants to see what else is out there.

Evans had an outstanding season in 2023, making 79 catches for 1,255 yards and a league-leading 13 receiving touchdowns. It was his 10th straight campaign with 1,000+ yards receiving, becoming only the second player in NFL history to achieve that feat alongside Hall of Famer Jerry Rice.

Buccaneers’ general manager Jason Licht said earlier this week that the franchise remains confident that they can keep Evans for 2024 and beyond.

“He’s an unprecedented player. We want him to be a Buc for life. We’re working towards that,” Licht said.

However, the Bucs are facing quite a competition, considering a lot of teams are expected to have interest in Evans. The list of his potential suitors includes the reigning Super Bowl champions Kansas City Chiefs and the Carolina Panthers.

Mike Evans entered the league as Tampa Bay’s No. 7 pick in the 2014 NFL Draft. His career stats include 762 catches for 11,680 yards and 94 touchdowns. He has two Second-Team All-Pro selections, five Pro Bowl nods, and a Super Bowl LV win on his resume.

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers are planning to release two-time Pro Bowl outside linebacker Shaquil Barrett.

Reportedly, the move was prompted by the fact that Barrett was in line for a $15.04 million bonus next month.

After years of dealing with a tight cap situation, the Buccaneers are entering the 2024 offseason with more than $40 million in cap space. However, they need all of that and more considering their star wideout Mike Evans and starting quarterback Baker Mayfield are set to become free agents and retaining both will likely come at a steep price.

It is unclear whether the Buccaneers will use a post-June 1 designation on Barrett. If they do, they will incur a $9.3 million salary cap hit. Otherwise, Barrett’s release will come with a hefty $26.7 million in dead money.

Shaquil Barrett started his career with the Denver Broncos, signing with the franchise as an undrafted free agent in 2014. After five years in Denver, Barrett left the Broncos ahead of the 2019 season for a one-year deal with the Buccaneers.

Barrett had a career year in his first season with the Bucs, leading the league with 19.5 sacks and setting a new franchise record. This prompted the Buccaneers to place a franchise tag on him in the 2020 season before signing him to a four-year, $72 million extension in 2021.

After earning Pro Bowl nods in 2019 and 2021, Barrett struggled in the past two seasons, which probably factored into the Bucs’ decision to release him. He combined for just 7.5 sacks over that span and dealt with injuries including a ruptured Achilles tendon.

There is one thing we know about Tampa Bay Buccaneers quarterback Baker Mayfield; if you trash talk him, he will respond. And often, he won’t make you look good, as Detroit Lions’ safety C.J. Gardner-Johnson recently discovered.

The Buccaneers are through to the NFL Divisional Round after an upset win against the Philadelphia Eagles and have the Detroit Lions standing in their way to the NFC Championship game. Gardner-Johnson recently talked about the matchup and praised the Bucs’ receiving core but also threw a shot at Mayfield by saying that the group would be better if they had a “good quarterback”.

“This group probably is one of the better groups we done faced all year, besides that Tampa group,” Gardner-Johnson told Detroit Free Press earlier this week. “If you give that Tampa group a good quarterback, that’s a great group. Evans, Godwin, (Russell) Gage, that’s a great group. I played against them for real.”

Mayfield didn’t take long to respond to Gardner-Johnson. He said that the Detroit safety didn’t pay much attention when watching the film. Otherwise, he would know that Gage hasn’t played all season due to an ACL injury.

“I don’t think he’s really watched the film because he mentioned Russell Gage,” said Mayfield. “You know, we love Russell, but he hasn’t played a snap this year for us. He must be going off the preseason stuff the media was talking about, but he didn’t play our first game so I’m excited to see him.”

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers live to see another day in the playoffs. Facing the favored Philadelphia Eagles in the NFC Wild Card game, the Bucs delivered a dominant performance that saw them grab a 9-32 win.

The Buccaneers advance to the Divisional Round, where they’ll face NFC North champions Detroit Lions.

The Bucs were the lone underdogs hosting a postseason game in the 2023 NFL Playoffs. The weakness of their division and 9-8 record didn’t project much confidence against the talented 11-6 Eagles. On top of that, Tampa Bay’s quarterback Baker Mayfield was questionable for the game while dealing with a rib injury.

Despite all of this, the Bucs and Mayfield rushed to a 0-10 lead in the first half and didn’t take the foot off the gas until late in the fourth quarter. Mayfield finished the game with 337 passing yards and three touchdowns while being careful with the football.

The Bucs’ defense also showed up ready to play, limiting the Eagles to 276 total yards while not allowing a single third-down conversion.

“We worked extremely hard to get a chance to be in the playoffs, and we just wanted an opportunity. Our guys came out and played really really well. … Once again, the defense played lights out. We’re happy, but we’ve still got more to go,” Mayfield said after the game.

The Bucs will once again be the underdogs when they travel to Detroit to face the Lions, but it appears that this team isn’t too concerned about that.

“We were underdogs, we’re going to be underdogs next week, too,” Tampa’s head coach Todd Bowles said. “We understand that. We embrace it. We like it.”

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers wideout Mike Evans continues to be a synonym for consistency in the NFL. With 162 receiving yards in a 21-18 win over the Carolina Panthers on Sunday, Evans cleared the 1,000 receiving yards mark for the 2023 campaign. It was the 10th straight season in which the veteran managed to achieve the same feat.

With this, Evans became the only player in NFL history to have at least 1,000 receiving yards in his first 10 seasons in the league.

Evans’ streak of 10 seasons with 1,000 receiving yards is also the second longest of all time. San Francisco 49ers’ legend Jerry Rice had 11 consecutive seasons (1986-1996) in which he cleared the mark.

Furthermore, the only other player to have at least 10 seasons with 1,000 receiving yards is Hall of Famer Randy Moss. However, Moss didn’t do it in consecutive years.

“I’m happy we got the win, most importantly,” Evans said of his achievement. “I’m happy with the record, obviously. I’ve had a lot of great quarterbacks and offensive coordinators who believed in me, so I really appreciate them. Hopefully I can keep that streak going for however long my career goes.”

If Evans has another 1,000 receiving yards season in 2024, it might not come in Buccaneers’ jersey. The two sides failed to agree on a contract extension this past offseason setting up Evans to become a free agent after the 2023 campaign.

Pro Bowl wideout Mike Evans informed the Tampa Bay Buccaneers that he wants a new contract before the team plays Week 1 of the 2023 NLF season. If he doesn’t receive one by then, Evans and his representatives will “discontinue contract discussions.”

Evans made his request public via a statement released by his agent, Deryk Gilmore. According to Gilmore, the Bucs are yet to make an offer to his client “despite our efforts over the past two years.”

“We have been working on extending Mike’s career with the Bucs for over a year, and we want the fans to know this is not a tactic, and the ball is in the owner’s court,” Gilmore added. “That said, we are giving the Bucs until the start of the regular season to make him a Buc for Life, and if that cannot happen, 100 percent of Mike’s focus will be on football and his future and where he can continue to make an impact.”

Evans signed his most recent deal in 2018 when he inked a five-year, $82.5 million extension. He is currently entering the final year of that contract, which comes with a base salary of $13 million. The 30-year-old clearly feels he is underpaid in comparison to other top receivers around the league and wants to change that.

Mike Evans has been one of the league’s most consistent wide receivers since being drafted by the Buccaneers with the seventh overall pick in the 2014 NFL Draft. He surpassed 1,000 receiving yards in each of his nine seasons as a pro while making four Pro Bowls. Evans also helped the Bucs win a Super Bowl in the 2020 season.

Tampa Bay Buccanneers wide receiver Russell Gage is set to miss the entirety of the 2023 NFL season after suffering a knee injury during his team’s joint practice with the New York Jets on Wednesday, sources familiar with the matter claimed. The player was carted off the practice field in Florham Park, New Jersey following the injury.

“We hear it’s going to be pretty serious, and I’ll wait to hear the final results,” Bucs coach Todd Bowles stated following the practice. “I can tell by the way that he was sitting on the truck that it was probably something that happened pretty bad. Our hearts go out to him, and we’ll see how it goes.”

Catching 51 passes for 426 yards and a career-high five touchdowns in 13 games in his first season with the Bucs in 2022, Gage’s time in Tampa has been marred by injury issues. The 27-year-old player agreed to take a pay cut during the offseason to remain with the Bucs.

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers are facing the possibility of losing their start linebacker Devin White. According to multiple reports, the Pro Bowler officially requested a trade from the Buccaneers earlier this week.

ESPN’s Adam Schefter reports that the Bucs don’t want to trade White, but they might not have a choice. The LSU product is entering the fifth and final year of his rookie deal that pays him $11.7 million and is set to become a free agent next year.

White’s trade request most likely stems from the fact that he and the Buccaneers still haven’t been able to come to terms on a contract extension. The 25-year-old player wants a new deal sooner than later, while Tampa Bay isn’t so open to spending after getting into a tough salary cap situation during the Tom Brady years.

There is no doubt that multiple teams will be interested in Devin White if the Bucs decide they are open for business. While White’s stats in 2022 haven’t been eye-catching for the most part, he has shown the potential of being a playmaker in the past. Also, teams might contribute the down year to the defensive struggles Tampa Bay had as a team last year.

White started 62 games for the Bucs since being the fifth overall pick in the 2019 NFL Draft. He has 315 tackles and 20.5 career sacks while making one Pro Bowl and one Second-Team All-Pro.

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers’ offense will look a lot different in 2023 compared to previous seasons. There will be no quarterback Tom Brady, who decided to retire earlier this year, and no starting running back Leonard Fournette, who is expected to be released in the near future.

According to multiple reports, Tampa plans to release Fournette as part of its efforts to clear the salary cap. The 28-year-old player was set to enter the second year of the three-year, $21 million contract he signed last year but only had $2 million guarantees left.

While releasing Fournette gets them a $3.5 million salary cap relief, the Bucs still have a long way to go before being in the clear. They are currently projected to be more than $50 million over the cap, meaning more cuts and/or contract restructures are coming.

Fournette struggled in 2022, finishing with 462 rushing yards on 3.4 yards per carry and three touchdowns. This greatly contributed to Bucs finishing the season at the bottom of the league in rushing.

Shortly after the reports started circulating, Fournette spoke with Tampa Bay Times and said that the release was actually his idea. He told the media outlet that he asked the Bucs to cut him, and the front office obliged.

“Winning is everything,” Fournette said. “That’s all. And in my last three years here, that’s all we’ve done. But since my guy [Brady] left, that’s why I came, so my time here was up.”

Leonard Fournette became a fan favorite in Tampa for his stellar performances during the team’s Super Bowl run in 2020. He rushed for 300 yards and three touchdowns in four games while also adding 18 catches for 148 yards and a TD.
