The Pittsburgh Steelers will be without their star outside linebacker for the AFC Wild Card Round clash against the Buffalo Bills. According to Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin, Watt is dealing with a knee injury and is unable to take the field on Sunday.

Watt, who is the front-runner for the NFL Defensive Player of the Year award, got hurt in a Week 18 win over the Baltimore Ravens. The Steelers didn’t disclose details about his injury, but the 29-year-old player is reportedly dealing with a Grade 2 MCL sprain and will be out for at least a couple of weeks.

Tomlin said that Watt’s absence is “significant “but added that he’s confident in his team’s ability to overcome the challenge.

“Obviously playing without T.J. is significant, but to be quite honest with you, we’ve played without a lot of people this year,” Tomlin said. “It’s just another opportunity for us to strike a blow for team and to display what team really means, a collective of individuals that work together in an effort to produce an outcome. “

Watt finished the 2023 regular season leading the league with 19.0 sacks while also adding 68 tackles, 36 QB hits, eight pass deflections, four forced fumbles, and one interception. He also has one fumble recovery returned for a touchdown.

The Pittsburgh Steelers linebacker T.J. Watt is feared to have suffered a Grade 3 left MCL sprain, a source revealed on Saturday. The 29-year-old player landed awkwardly following his second sack in the 17-10 victory over the Baltimore Ravens on Saturday after colliding with a teammate Montravius Adams. While eager to return to the team following the hit, the Steelers ruled Watt out for the remainder of the game.

“Obviously, man, T.J. is a big part of not just our defense but our team,” fellow Steelers linebacker Elandon Roberts commented. “Great leader, great guy, on and off the field. I’m hoping it’s not as bad. … From a standpoint of our team — not just our defense but our team — we definitely don’t want to see T.J. go down.”

Steelers coach Mike Tomlin expressed optimism that Watt would not be out for an extended period, adding that he expects to provide more information on Watt’s injury status during his next press conference. Having won their final regular-season game, the Steelers will await the results of Sunday’s games to learn if they will qualify for the playoffs.

The Pittsburgh Steelers pass rusher T.J. Watt has entered concussion protocol team spokesperson Burt Lauten confirmed. The player reported on Friday morning that he had been feeling concussion symptoms following the Steelers’ 21-18 loss to the New England Patriots.

Watt was injured during the first play of the loss to the Pats when he was hit in the face by the knee of running back Ezekiel Elliott’s at the end of a run. After leaving the field for several snaps, Watt returned to the game wearing a tinted visor later in the first quarter. He ended up playing in 90% of his team’s defensive snaps on the night.

This is a troubling absence for the Steelers, given that the team’s other pass rusher, Alex Highsmith, is out through a neck injury which he also suffered during the loss to the Patriots. In order to be allowed to return to action, Watt must be cleared by an independent neurologist.

Pittsburgh Steelers’ star defensive end T.J. Watt has reportedly torn multiple ligaments in his finger in a 17-10 win over the Baltimore Ravens last week. But according to NFL Networks’ Tom Pelissero, the 2021 NFL Defensive Player of the Year isn’t expected to miss any time due to injury.

Watt dislocated his finger at some point during the Ravens’ game but ended up putting it back in place and continued playing. The 29-year-old player will now have an extra week to get better, considering that the Steelers are on bye in Week 6. However, he might need to get surgery in the offseason, depending on how the finger heals.

Watt being able to continue playing is great news for the Steelers, considering he has been arguably the best defensive player in the NFL to start the 2023 campaign. He is leading the league with 8.0 sacks while also contributing with 15 tackles, 15 QB hits, four pass deflections, two forced fumbles, and one defensive touchdown.

The Steelers have been struggling on offense so far in the season, but a great defense has allowed them to remain competitive. They currently own a 3-2 record and are sitting at the top of the AFC West. Pittsburgh is scheduled to face the Los Angeles Rams in Week 7.

After an injury-riddled 2022 campaign, Pittsburgh Steelers’ defensive end T.J. Watt returned to his old ways of being a menace to opposing quarterbacks in 2023. After sacking San Francisco 49ers’ Brock Purdy three times in Week 1, Watt also got a sack on Deshaun Watson during a 26-22 win against the Cleveland Browns on Monday Night.

With four sacks in 2023, Watt got to 81.5 career sacks and is now the Steelers’ all-time leader in sacks. He passed retired outside linebacker James Harrison, who totaled 80.5 sacks with the franchise. Harrison needed 14 years and two stints to set the franchise’s sack record, while Watt did it early in his seventh season with the organization.

Harrison was actually in attendance for the Browns game and watched Watt break his record.

“It’s great,” said Harrison after the game. “That is the whole reason I came, so I could be here in person to see it. Records are meant to be broken, and that was one I was happy to see go down, especially watching it here.”

Browns’ game turned out to be even more special for T.J. Watt. After getting the record-breaking sack in the second quarter, the 2021 NFL Defensive Player of the Year also scored a career-first defensive touchdown in the final period.

While many were hopeful of a potential return to action amid a gradual recovery, the Pittsburgh Steelers confirmed on Saturday that outside linebacker T.J. Watt will not be available for selection for his team’s clash against the Cincinnati Bengals on Sunday. This is due to an ongoing groin injury.

After injuring his groin during the first half of a Week 2 loss against the Las Vegas Raiders, Watt was forced off the field; unable to return for the second half of the clash.

“I think it was a tweak here or there and then tried to push through it,” Watt said of his injury. “Just trying to be smart at the end of the day, ultimately. It’s a long season.”

Sidelined alongside Watt is fellow outside linebacker Alex Highsmith with a groin injury of his own. As a result, the Steelers will have to rely on the services of Melvin Ingram and former undrafted free agent Jamir Jones.

Watt remains hopeful that Jones will be able to deliver a strong performance in his absence. Watt described Jones as a “spark” who has played impressively since first arriving at the team.

The Pittsburgh Steelers might have their star defensive end TJ Watt back in action sooner than many expected. Despite missing the second half of the 26-17 loss to the Las Vegas Raiders on Sunday due to a groin injury, Watt could reportedly recover in time to be on the field for Week 3 matchup against the Cincinnati Bengals.

According to NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport, Watt avoided a serious injury, and the Steelers are optimistic about his chances of playing this weekend.

This represents great news for the Steelers, as Watt is the cornerstone of their defense and arguably the team’s best player. After leading the league in sacks with 15 in 2020, the 26-year-old star had a strong opening to the 2021 season as well. He totaled 3 sacks, including two strip-sacks, seven tackles, and six QB hits in just 85 snaps he played this season.

Pittsburgh, who is struggling with injuries on all fronts, received more good news this week. The knee injury that wideout Diontae Johnson suffered on Sunday is not severe and won’t result in a major spell on the sidelines. While Johnson is questionable for the games against the Bengals, he shouldn’t be out for long.

Johnson is an important part of the Steelers’ offense, being the most productive wideout for the team through the first two games. He has 14 receptions for 141 yards and one touchdown in 2021.

The Pittsburgh Steelers and their star defensive end T.J. Watt reportedly just agreed to a massive new contract. ESPN’s Adam Schefter reports that Watt received a four-year, $112 million extension that makes him the highest-paid defensive player in the NFL in terms of annual salary at $28 million per season.

Watt, the Steelers’ No. 30 pick in the 2017 NFL Draft, was entering the season with one year left on his rookie deal. The two sides were locked in negotiations for the better part of the offseason but seemed unlikely to make progress before Week 1 game against the Buffalo Bills. During this period, Watt did not fully participate in the team’s practices and instead worked individually on his conditioning.

The deal ended up being done after Watt reportedly overruled his agent. He went to Pittsburgh president Art Rooney and told him he accepted the latest offer the team made him.

The Steelers still haven’t made the official announcement, but Watt himself acknowledged the extension in a social media post later in the day.

Watt’s teammates are also aware of the agreement, with Steelers captain on defense Cam Heyward telling ESPN that the 26-year-old player is “a guy who was more than deserving of this contract.”

“It’s great to know his future is here in Pittsburgh,” Heyward added.

T.J. Watt finished the 2020 NFL season leading the league in sacks (15.0), tackles for loss (23), and QB hits (41). He has 49.5 sacks in his four years as a pro and has received consecutive Pro Bowl nods in the past three seasons.
