Brooklyn Nets superstar Kevin Durant won’t return to action anytime soon. Durant, who is dealing with a hamstring injury, has been ruled out indefinitely, according to his head coach Steve Nash.

While talking to reporters on Wednesday, Nash said that Durant needs to undergo further tests on his hamstring and is potentially looking at a lengthy break.

“We were expecting the potential for this to be a month or whatever it may be,” Nash told the media. “So who knows? Who knows what the scan says? Who knows where this takes us and how soon he’s back?”

Nash added that the Nets would be “very cautious” with Durant moving forward and won’t rush him back until he’s fully ready.

Durant initially missed three games in early February before returning in a 134-117 win over the Golden State Warriors with a 20-point, five-rebound, and six-assist performance.

However, the 31-year-old superstar was shut down again after the game and hasn’t played since. He missed the 2021 All-Star game as well despite being the captain of his team.

After missing the last season with an Achilles tear, Kevin Durant made a triumphant return in 2020-21. He was the Nets’ best player when on the court, averaging 29.0 points, 7.3 rebounds, and 5.3 assists. The issue, however, is that he only managed to play 19 games so far.

Brooklyn can afford to give Durant more time to recover, especially since they have All-Stars Kyrie Irving and James Harden playing at a high level. They are currently second in Eastern Conference with a 24-13 record and one game behind the leading Philadelphia 76ers.

Brooklyn Nets’ hired Hall of Famer Steve Nash as their new head coach last month, but it appears that the two-times NBA MVP might have some trouble to exert his authority in the locker room. Especially since his two main players feel like they don’t have a head coach.

Kyrie Irving recently made an appearance on his teammate Kevin Durant’s The Etcs podcast, where the two All-Stars discussed the hiring of Nash.

“I don’t really see us having a head coach,” said Irving. “KD could be a head coach, I could be a head coach [some days].”

Durant followed up on Irving’s comment by saying that a number of people, including assistant Jacque Vaughn, could take on the role at some point.

“It’s a collaborative effort,” he added.

Despite not perceiving Steve Nash as an authoritative figure, the duo spoke candidly about the former Phoenix Suns guard.

“Steve is great, and I have a relationship with him that’s going to build over time, bro,” Irving added. “Steve don’t know me from anything he heard or he’s heard someone else. We’ve worked out one time in 2014, but it’s grown as just a respectful relationship from afar.”

Despite not having prior head coaching experience, Nash worked with several successful NBA organizations in various roles since retirement. The Nets now hope that he can use that experience and his leadership capabilities to bring success to a talented team that will most certainly have title aspirations next season.

It is safe to say that Brooklyn Nets’ superstar Kevin Durant approves the hiring of Hall of Fame guard Steve Nash as the franchise’s next head coach.

Speaking with JJ Redick on The Old Man and the Three podcast, Durant said that he is “excited” about Nash’s hiring and believes former two-times NBA MVP will help him develop his game.

“I’m excited,” Durant told Redick. “His insight for the game, his communication—how he communicates the game of basketball is definitely going to help me as a player develop, and it’s going to help the rest of our team, and our relationship started from him player, me admiring him as a player.”

Durant and Nash had the opportunity to play against each other on numerous occasions, but have also collaborated together with Golden State Warriors. Nash had a consulting role with the Warriors when Durant joined the franchise and led it to an NBA Championship in 2017.

“Every time I’m in the gym with him, I was always like a sponge,” Durant added. “I’m looking forward to this man. I always feel like I’m a student of the game. Somebody who has experienced so much and played in different eras, I’m looking forward to him teaching me some more things about it as well.”

The 2020/21 season will be a fresh start for Kevin Durant, considering he hasn’t played a single game this season with the Nets due to an ACL injury. Having a coach he is comfortable and familiar with is definitely going to help him to make a better return and possibly increase his chances to lead the franchise to its first NBA title.

The Brooklyn Nets have signed one of the greatest point guards in NBA history as their new head coach, inking Steve Nash to a four-year deal to take the reins of the team.

Nash, a two-time NBA MVP and eight-time All-Star during his 19-year career with the Phoenix Suns, Dallas Mavericks, and Los Angeles Lakers, will take on his first coaching role at the age of 46 at a team that will be expecting big things in the upcoming seasons.

The Nets, who are expected to have both Kyrie Irving and Kevin Durant in their starting lineup next season, made the playoffs as a seventh seed this year but bowed out after a first-round sweep at the hands of the Toronto Raptors.

Interim head coach Jacque Vaughn, who took over after former coach Kenny Atkison was dismissed midway through the season, will remain on the coaching staff as Nash’s top assistant.

Nash, 46, comes after holding consultant roles in the league after retiring following the 2014-15 season, primarily with the Golden State Warriors. There, he cultivated a close relationship with Kevin Durant, which is thought to be one of the reasons he was selected to take over in Brooklyn.

The new coach is expected to hold his first press conference as the team’s coach in the coming days.
