New York Giants are not keen on letting their wide receiver Sterling Shepard experience free agency anytime soon. Instead, the team decided to give Shepard a four-year extension worth $41 million according to NFL Network.  The 25-year- old is entering the final year of his rookie contract.

ESPN‘s Adam Schefter reports that Shepard’s deal includes $21.3 million in guaranteed money and will make him one of the league’s best-paid slot receivers.

Sterling Shepard had a career season in 2018, finishing the year with 66 receptions for 872 yards and four touchdowns and trailing only Odell Beckham Jr. among Giants players in receiving yard. Since Beckham was traded to Cleveland Browns in March, Shepard is now expected to become the team’s leading wideout and develop into a star caliber player. He will be paired with former Philadelphia Eagles’ WR Golden Tate, who was signed in the free agency.

Shepard was drafted by the New York Giants in the second round of the 2016 NFL Draft. During his time in the NFL, he caught 190 passes for 2,286 yards and 14 touchdowns.
