The Green Bay Packers are finally getting some help at the wideout position. According to ESPN’s Rob Demovsky, Packers are close to finalizing a deal with veteran wide receiver Seth Roberts.

Roberts started the 2020 NFL season with Carolina Panthers, signing a one-year, $3.5 million deal back in March. The 29-year-old Roberts, however, didn’t manage to fit into Matt Rhule’s offense and has just four catches for 31 yards to show for.

After using him for just 44 snaps in the past three games, Carolina opted to release Roberts on Monday and save some money.

The Packers, who were on the market for a wideout since the offseason, jumped on the opportunity and will now get a proven veteran to help them make a Super Bowl run.

As Demovsky points out, Roberts will first join the Packers’ practice squad. But he is expected to find his way to the active roster in no time, especially considering Green Bay’s struggles at the position.

Seth Roberts entered the league as an undrafted free agent out of West Alabama, landing a deal with Las Vegas Raiders in 2014. He spent four years with the Raiders, where he made 25 starts and played 62 games in total, before embarking on stints with Baltimore Ravens in 2019 and previously mentioned spell with the Panthers.

Roberts made 179 receptions for 2,097 yards, averaging respectable 11.7 yards per catch. He has 15 touchdowns to his name as well.
