Despite a flurry of reports that he’s considering a shocking return to professional soccer, former Manchester City striker Sergio Aguero is insisting that he will remain retired.

Various media outlets reported that Aguero, who retired in 2021 due to a heart condition, is considering a comeback and will train with the Argentinean side Independiente. Aguero started his professional career with the club, which is currently being managed by his friend and former Argentina teammate Carlos Tevez.

“It’s totally a lie, I’m not going to train with Independiente,” Aguero said during a recent Twitch stream as reported by ESPN. “Sometimes things are invented. I reiterate that the cardiologist said that I am well, that it is important that I am in good health. But to return to training at the First Division level, I would need to undergo a lot of tests.”

Aguero’s comments come after Tevez recently told the media that he would welcome Aguero to the club if he were to change his mind about playing professionally again.

Sergio Aguero is best known for his time with Manchester City, where he played between 2011 and 2021. He became the club’s all-time leading scorer with 260 goals during that time and helped City win 15 trophies, including five Premier League titles.

Aguero left City as a free agent in the summer of 2021 in order to sign with Barcelona. However, he only played five games for the La Liga powerhouse before a heart condition forced him to retire.

The career of Barcelona’s striker Sergio Aguero is facing an uncertain future after he experienced heart issues in late October. However, retirement doesn’t seem to be on the cards for the Argentinian at the moment, according to a report by ESPN.

Aguero’s problems started during a 1-1 draw with Alaves on October 30th, when he reportedly experienced significant chest pain. The 33-year-old underwent several tests shortly after the game and was found to have a case of cardiac arrhythmia. Barca immediately ruled him out for at least three months, during which Aguero will undergo a series of treatments.

Recent reports from Spain indicated that Sergio Aguero’s condition is worse than it was originally believed and that he will have no choice but to walk away from professional soccer. However, sources close to the club and the player have denied this and reiterated that Aguero won’t rush into any decisions until he completes the treatment.

Aguero also acknowledged the rumors via Twitter.

“Given the rumors, I can tell you that I am following the instructions from the club’s medical team, having tests and treatment, and seeing how I evolve during the 90 day process. Always positive,” he wrote on social media on Friday.

Aguero joined Barca on a free transfer this summer after previously spending 10 years with Manchester City. So far, he has made five appearances for the La Liga side and scored one goal.
