The Ottawa Senators star defenseman Thomas Chabot is expected to be sidelined for four to six weeks after he suffered a broken hand, coach D.J. Smith announced. Chabot was placed on long-term injured reserve on Saturday as a result.

The 26-year-old defenceman was injured during the Senators’ 3-2 loss to the New York Islanders on Thursday when he attempted to block a shot early on in the second period.

Chabot has been in fine form this season, bagging three assists and averaging 24:19 of ice time in seven games to date. Since being picked 18th overall by the Senators in the 2015 NHL Draft, the Senators star has scored 232 points (53 goals, 179 assists) over the course of 388 career appearances. With the team needing reinforcements given Chabot’s unavailability, the Senators have recalled defensemen Tyler Kleven and Nikolas Matinpalo from the Belleville Senators of the American Hockey League.

Snoop Dogg is not only one of the most recognizable figures in rap music but also a successful entrepreneur, cookbook author, and TV personality. And if his most recent venture ends up being successful, he will also add NHL team owner to his resume.

Snoop recently confirmed on social media that he is getting involved in the bidding process for NHL’s Ottawa Senators. He became part of the ownership group led by Los Angeles-based businessman Neko Sparks.

According to a recent report by The Athletic, Snoop has been really “passionate” about the prospects of becoming the Senators’ owner. His plan is to give the team more exposure, thanks to his popularity on social media, get involved in the day-to-day operations and make hockey more accessible to minorities and fans from lower-income backgrounds.

“He’s passionately involved. He’s coming up with ideas. And he’s legitimately excited,” a source close to the matter told the media outlet. “He wants this team.”

Besides Snoop, the group led by Sparks also includes dozen other investors. Reportedly, Sparks wants to have a diverse consortium of owners and intends to be aggressive in his attempts to acquire the franchise.

Sparks’ group is facing tough competition as several other high-profile groups have been circling around the Senators. One of them is so-called The Remington Group, which includes Hollywood celebrity, Ryan Reynolds.

The Ottawa Senators goaltender Anton Forsberg will be sidelined indefinitely after he tore the medial collateral ligament in both of his knees, general manager Pierre Dorion announced Sunday.

Forsberg was injured late in the third period of the Senators’ 6-3 loss to the Edmonton Oilers on Saturday when Senators defenseman Travis Hamonic pushed Oilers winger Zach Hyman on top of Forsberg during a goalmouth scramble. Unable to get up or show signs of recovery, Forsberg was removed from the game on a stretcher and unable to return to the ice.

Joining Forsberg on the sidelines is rookie defenseman Jake Sanderson, who sustained an upper-body injury during the loss to Edmonton after taking a hit from Oilers defenseman Vincent Desharnais in the third period. He is expected to miss up to two weeks as a result.

So far this season, Forsberg has maintained an 11-11-2 record and a .902 save percentage in 28 appearances. Sanderson has made 52 appearances, scoring four goals and making 18 assists.

After boosting the NHL’s worst record for better part of the season, Ottawa Senators decided it was time for a change and parted ways with their head coach Guy Boucher. The team announced the news on Friday and named assistant coach Marc Crawford as interim coach.

Boucher’s firing comes after Senators suffered a 4-2 defeat against Edmonton Oilers on Thursday night, which extended their losing streak to six games. The team now sits firmly at the bottom of the Atlantic Division with 22-37-5 record.

Senators didn’t make it easy for Guy Boucher to keep his job, as they decided to head down the path of rebuilding and traded away several key players. Also the front office already wasn’t keen on giving Boucher a new contract as his current deal was set to expire at the end of the season.

“I want to thank Guy for his three years of service,” – said general manager Pierre Dorion in a statement. “He is a good person and has been an excellent representative of the Senators. At this point, however, we need a different set of coaching and leadership skills to guide our team through this rebuild. In the interim, Marc will bring a different perspective along with a wealth of head-coaching experience.”

Guy Boucher joined Ottawa Senators at the beginning of 2016–17 NHL season, and made an immediate impact, leading the team to 2nd place in Atlantic Division and reaching the Conference Finals. He failed to replicate this success last season, however, as the Senators finished 7th in the standings and missed the postseason. Boucher will leave Ottawa with a 94-108-26 record.
