U.S. international and Swansea City winger Jordan Morris has been ruled out for the remainder of the 2020-21 season after suffering an ACL tear.

Morris, who was playing in the Championship league on loan from the Seattle Sounders, got hurt in Saturday’s 4-1 loss to Huddersfield Town. The 26-year-old player tried to steady the ball on the left flank before his knee gave up.

Swansea manager Steve Cooper confirmed the nature of the injury to reporters earlier this week.

“He’s had a bad injury unfortunately for him,” said Cooper. “It’s significant ligament damage, ACL. Everything we hoped it wasn’t, unfortunately, it is.”

Morris is expected to leave the Championship team and return to the United States where he’ll have surgery.

Jordan Morris joined Swansea City in January on a five-month loan with an option to make the transfer permanent in the summer. He ended up making five appearances while failing to score or assist.

Morris previously spent his entire career with the Sounders, making 129 appearances for the club and scoring 42 goals. He helped Seattle win two MLS Cups while also receiving a number of individual accolades, including the MLS Comeback Player of the Year award and MLS XI Best nod.

2021 could be the year that sees Seattle Sounders and USMNT winger Jordan Morris making his way to Europe. According to Morris, several European teams expressed interest in his services, and he would consider the move if the “right offer” came his way.

This would be the perfect time for Morris to take his career further, as he is coming off his best season as a pro. The 26-year-old player played 22 games with the Sounders in 2020, scoring 10 goals and having a career-high eight assists. He also added a goal and assist in the playoffs, helping Seattle reach the MLS Cup finals for the second consecutive season.

“Definitely some conversations are ongoing with Seattle, and in Europe, a little bit and I think that, for me, it’s a similar stance of where I was before MLS Cup: If the right offer and the right team comes forward, it’s something that I’d be interested in,” Morris told reporters during a video chat earlier this week.

Morris added that he also wouldn’t mind staying with the Sounders and believes the quality of soccer in the MLS is rapidly increasing.

Jordan Morris spent his entire career with the Seattle Sounders, joining the club’s academy in 2012. During his time with the organization, he took part in two MLS Cup wins while also claiming several individual awards, including an MLS Best XI selection in 2020.

Morris is also a member of the United States men’s national team. He made his debut in 2014 and has since played 39 games in which he scored 10 goals.

Despite being linked with a move overseas, Seattle Sounders’ forward Jordan Morris is likely to stay in MLS for foreseeable future. According to MLS Soccer, Morris attracted interest from English Championship but proved to be too pricey for his potential suitors.

The club that was most interested in Morris was reportedly Preston North End Morris, who inquired about the 25-year-old forward through intermediaries. However, the price they got from Seattle was well out of their price range, and they will not make an offer for the time being.

Preston was looking for some help up front after a poor start of the new season, in which they collected one point in their first three games while scoring just twice.

Jordan Morris emerged as one of the best wingers in MLS in recent times, having bagged an MLS Comeback Player of the Year award in 2019 following a stellar outing in Sounders’ road to MLS Cup win. After missing the most of 2018 due to injury, Morris returned last year to score 10 goals and added seven assists in the regular season. He proceeded to contribute with three goals and one assist in the playoffs.

Morris also kicked off 2020 on a high note and currently has seven goals and six assists in just 13 games. This helped him get attention from multiple clubs from Europe, but it looks like they’ll have to pay big if they want to lure him from Seattle.

Seattle Sounders will have to go through 2018 MLS season without their striker Jordan Morris. The team announced on Monday that Morris will be forced to sit out the entire upcoming season due to an ACL tear in his right knee.

Morris suffered the injury in last week’s game of CONCACAF Champions League, where the Sounders were defeated by El Salvador’s Santa Tecla. Although there is a chance that Morris could recover in time for playoffs, the Sounders don’t want to rush him back on the field.

Part of what we have seen is that guys that come back in that six-month time frame have a much higher rate of re-injury,” – said team’s general manager Garth Lagerwey while talking with Seattle Times. “So, part of what we’re looking at here in ruling Jordan out for the season is not what’s best for the Sounders in 2018, but what’s best for Jordan Morris in terms of his career.

Jordan Morris spent his entire professional career with the Seattle Sounders playing 57 games in total and scoring 13 goals. He is also a regular member of USMNT since 2014 and managed to score 5 goals in 25 games.

Coach of the Sounders, Brian Schmetzer, backed the 23-year-old striker and is confident that Morris will return even stronger.

Obviously, it’s a blow to a young player,” – said Schmetzer. “Jordan has a ton of talent, a bright future ahead of him. It’s certainly a setback, but it’s not a setback he can’t overcome. I have all the confidence in Jordan that he is going to pull through this and be a significant part of the team.

With Morris out for the season, Seattle Sounders will now have a spot open for a new designated player.
