The Seattle Seahawks star safety Jamal Adams reportedly might face discipline from the NFL for his inappropriate behavior on the sidelines during Monday night’s game against the New York Giants.

Adams took a helmet hit in the first quarter on one play and was slow to get up while looking unstable on his feet. He went into the medical tent for a concussion examination and apparently wasn’t satisfied with something the independent concussion doctor said. The 27-year-old player was later seen yelling at the doctor and had to be calmed down by the Seahawks’ coaching staff.

If the league ends up deciding to discipline Adams, the most likely outcome is that he will receive a hefty fine but avoid suspension. For his part, Adams already issued a public apology for his actions directed at the doctor.

When asked by reporters about the reasons for Adams’ frustration, Seahawks’ head coach Pete Carroll didn’t offer many details.

“By the time they got all the assessments done, he couldn’t play,” said Carol earlier in the week. “Somebody said something that wasn’t with us. It was somebody else that he might have responded to. I’m not sure about that.”

The game against the Giants was a season debut for Adams. He previously missed all but one game of the 2022 campaign while dealing with a torn quad tendon.

All-Pro offensive tackle Jason Peters is not done with professional football just yet. The 41-year-old player will play his 20th NFL season after agreeing to a one-year deal with the Seattle Seahawks.

Peters’ signing with the Seahawks was confirmed by his agent Vincent Taylor, although the financial details of the contract are still unknown.

Considered one of the best-undrafted players in NFL history, Peters spent the majority of his career with the Buffalo Bills and the Philadelphia Eagles. He won the Super Bowl LII with the Eagles and has nine Pro Bowl nods and six All-Pro selections. Peters, who made the NFL 2010s All-Decade Team, played 10 games with the Dallas Cowboys last season.

When he steps on the field for his Seahawks debut, Peters will be the oldest active player in the NFL. He will also be the second-oldest offensive lineman to play in an NFL game since 1950 after guard Ray Brown, who played his last game at the age of 43.

The Seahawks entered the 2023 season with second-year players Charles Cross and Abraham Lucas as their starting tackles. However, both Cross and Lucas were not able to finish the Week 1 loss against the Los Angeles Rams due to injuries. While the expectancy is that the duo won’t miss much time, the Seahawks decided to act quickly and get Peters as insurance.

The Seattle Seahawks rookie wideout Jaxon Smith-Njigba will undergo surgery to repair a bone fracture in his wrist. According to Seahawks’ head coach Pete Carroll, Smith-Njigba is expected to miss three to four weeks recovering.

“He’s got a slight fracture that we just want to make sure we do the right thing to ensure that he gets back as soon as possible and as safe as possible,” Carroll told reporters. “We’re going to be optimistic about it. Three, four weeks, we’ll see what happens. We don’t know yet.”

According to Carroll, the team hopes that the 2023’s first-round pick might be ready in time for the season opener against the Philadelphia Eagles.

“We’re staying optimistic. We’ll see what happens,” Carroll added.

Jaxon Smith-Njigba was the first wide receiver off the board in the 2023 NFL Draft, being selected with the No. 20 pick by Seattle. He played college football at Ohio State, where he played 22 games across three years. Smith-Njigba had his best outing in the 2021 college season when he made 95 catches for 1,606 yards and nine touchdowns.

Smith-Njigba’s questionable status for Week 1 provides further headaches for the Seahawks. Their wide receiver corps behind DK Metcalf and Tyler Lockett is currently thin, with Dee Eskridge being suspended and Dareke Young dealing with an abductor injury.

The Seattle Seahawks head coach Pete Carroll has heard the rumors about his team looking to move on from star safety Jamal Adams. And he wants everybody to know that there is no truth in them at all.

The Seahawks brought in standout safety Julian Love in free agency, handing him a two-year, $12 million deal. His arrival stirred the chatter that Adams might be the odd man out due to his recent struggles and big contract since Seattle also has Pro Bowl safety Quandre Diggs on their roster. However, Carroll refuted this notion in a chat with reporters this week, saying the team plans on playing all three at the same time.

“I know there’s some conversation that what we did with Julian, does that have some impact on Jamal or Quandre — it doesn’t, “said Carroll. “We have a clear thought of what we’re going to do with our guys and how we want to play them, and we feel very fortunate to have all our guys.”

Jamal Adams joined the Seahawks in a blockbuster trade from the New York Jets in 2020 and went on to deliver a Pro Bowl campaign that saw him get 83 tackles and 9.5 sacks in just 12 games. He ended up signing a four-year, $72 million extension the next year, becoming the highest-paid safety in the game.

However, the investment didn’t exactly work out for the Seahawks so far. Adams had a disappointing campaign in 2021, failing to get a single sack for the first time in his pro career. He then got hurt in Week 1 of the 2022 season and hasn’t played a game since.

Bobby Wagner has agreed to a one-year deal with the Seattle Seahawks, the team announced on Saturday. The free-agent linebacker is expected to earn $7 million in what will be his second stint in Seattle.

Wagner returns to the Seahawks after spending last season with the Los Angeles Rams. The linebacker spent each of his previous ten seasons with the Seahawks, who drafted him in the second round out of Utah State in 2012.

Considered by many to be the greatest defensive player in franchise history, Wagner is the franchise’s all-time leading tackler. He also won Super Bowl XLVIII with the Seahawks before losing in Super Bowl XLIX the following season.

Wagner’s return to Seattle came after he was released from his contract with the Rams on March 15. This came a year after he signed a $50 million contract with Los Angeles that included $20 million in guarantees.

Veteran quarterback Geno Smith will parlay his career year in 2022 into a big payday from the Seattle Seahawks. According to The Score’s Jordan Schultz, Smith, and the Seahawks have reached an agreement on a three-year, $105 million contract.

Smith, who was set to become a free agent this offseason, will reportedly get as much as $52 million in 2023.

After serving as a backup for the better part of his pro career, Smith received a chance to start for the Seahawks after the franchise traded Russell Wilson to the Denver Broncos ahead of the 2022 campaign. The 32-year-old player used the most out of this opportunity, leading the league in completion percentage with 69.8 while throwing for 4,282 yards, 30 touchdowns, and 11 picks. He was named Pro Bowl and NFL Comeback Player of the Year at the end of the season.

Geno Smith re-signing with the Seahawks always seemed like a foregone conclusion considering how comfortable he looks in Pete Carroll’s system. The franchise, on the other hand, didn’t want to lose the player they had tons of respect for and who gave them a great chance to compete.

The Seahawks will now have to figure out who to have as Smith’s backup next season. Former second-round pick Drew Lock served in that role in 2022, but he is set to become a free agent. Seattle may try to resign him or instead get one of the rookie QBs with the No. 5 selection in the 2023 NFL Draft.

Veteran offensive lineman Austin Blythe announced his retirement from the NFL on social media on Tuesday. The 30-year-old player spent seven seasons in the league.

“The last 7 years have been nothing short of amazing,” Blythe wrote on Instagram. “For a short, unathletic, undersized kid from Iowa, I’ve played a lot of football, met countless coaches and teammates that I can call friends, and made enough memories for myself and my family to last a lifetime. I am so grateful, and extremely blessed, to have played the game for any amount of time, let alone 7 years.”

Blythe spent last season with the Seattle Seahawks under a one-year $4 million contract. He started every game for the Seahawks, finishing 13th in ESPN’s pass block win rate among centers. During his tenure with the Seahawks, Blythe received praise from teammates and coaches for his ability to coordinate the offensive line, with position coach Andy Dickerson lauding him as an “elite communicator”.

Drafted out of Iowa in 2016 by the Indianapolis Colts, Blythe spent his rookie year in Indiana before moving to the Los Angeles Rams, where he played for four seasons. He then moved on to the Kansas City Chiefs in 2021 before wrapping up his career in Seattle.

Kicker Jason Myers has signed a four-year contract extension with the Seattle Seahawks, the team announced on Wednesday. With his previous contract set to expire in March, his new deal includes incentives that will raise the contract’s value to $22.6 million, making him the NFL’s second-highest-paid kicker.

At 31 years of age, Myers returned to top form in 2022, making 34 of his 37 field goal attempts to earn his second Pro Bowl nod in five seasons as the NFC’s kicker of choice. He has been a vital member of the Seahawks roster this season, kicking a 32-yard game-winner in overtime against the Rams in Week 18 to keep Seattle in the running for a playoff spot.

“Look at the kick at the end of the half. What a great play that was for a kicker,” Seahawks coach Pete Carroll said of his prized kicker. “He had a terrific year. He wants to be here. We want him to be here, so we have to figure it out somehow.”

Had he not signed his contract extension with the team, Myers would have been set to become an unrestricted free agent.

Safety Johnathan Abram, who was a first-round pick in 2019, will get another chance to prove he deserves to stay in the NFL. Abram was recently released by the Green Bay Packers but is now being picked up by the Seattle Seahawks, according to NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero.

If Abram suits up for the Seahawks this coming week, it will be his third team in 2022. He started the season with the Las Vegas Raiders, the team that originally drafted him. But after Week 9, the Raiders decided they didn’t need the 26-year-old player, releasing him.

The Packers swooped in, claiming Abram on waivers with expectations that he’ll play a big role in their secondary. But the Mississippi State product ended up playing only 26 snaps on the special team across two games before being released again.

The Seahawks now hope they can give Abram the necessary help to succeed, something that the Raiders and Packers couldn’t do. It is also a move made out of necessity since Seattle’s starting safety Ryan Neal is dealing with shoulder and elbow injuries that might limit his availability in the coming weeks.

Since entering the league, Abram has made 257 tackles, including eight tackles for loss. He added 12 passes defended, nine QB hits, and three interceptions. He is known for his physical presence on the field, something that should help Seattle’s struggling run defense.

The Seattle Seahawks’ starting left guard Damien Lewis left the field on an injury cart during the team’s 27-11 preseason loss to the Chicago Bears after hurting his left ankle. He was sent to get X-rays shortly after.

Head coach Pete Carroll revealed that Lewis’ X-ray results came back negative, explaining that the team is very lucky in this regard. He added that Lewis is in high spirits and “maybe surprised by the results, but we’re thrilled by it as well.” Currently, it remains unknown whether or not Lewis will be available for selection when the Seahawks meet the Denver Broncos for their NFL season opener on Monday, September 12.

Lewis was injured during the second quarter of the game against the Bears when defensive lineman Angelo Blackson unintentionally collided with him from behind while taking down DeeJay Dallas. Noticing the urgency of the situation, Seattle’s medical team placed Lewis in an air cast before transporting him off the field on an injury cart.

For the remainder of the game, Lewis was replaced by Haynes, with Carroll expressing much confidence in the player’s abilities in Lewis’ absence. According to the Seahawks coach, Haynes has excelled during the team’s preseason training, really applying pressure to veteran Gabe Jackson on the right side.
