It appears that Seattle Seahawks quarterback Russell Wilson won’t be on the move this offseason after all. Addressing rumors about Wilson’s future with the franchise at the NFL scouting combine on Wednesday, the team’s head coach Pete Carroll told reporters that the Seahawks “have no intention” to trade their star signal-caller.

According to Carroll, the rival NFL teams did reach out to test Wilson’s availability in recent weeks, but the Seahawks showed no interest in progressing those talks.

“We have no intention of making any move there, but the conversations, [general manager John Schneider] has to field those. He always has. But nothing specific to that,” Carroll explained.

The relationship between the Seahawks and Russell Wilson has been strained ever since the 33-year-old publicly expressed his frustrations about the lack of protection and Carroll’s offense after the 2020 NFL season. Wilson later reportedly handed Seattle a list of teams he would waive his no-trade clause for, while the franchise held exploratory talks with several teams.

By the time the 2021 season kicked off, the two sides temporarily set aside their differences to focus on the new campaign. However, it turned out to be one of the most challenging in Wilson’s pro career, as he struggled with form and missed three games due to an injury. As a result, the Seahawks finished with a 7-10 record, marking the first time they finished under .500 in a decade.

While Wilson and the Seahawks still haven’t settled their differences, the trade doesn’t seem highly likely at the moment. Unless Seattle intends to enter a rebuild, having Wilson under center still gives them the best chance to be a contender in 2022 and beyond.

Seattle Seahawks are staying committed to head coach Pete Carroll for the foreseeable future. According to multiple reports, Seahawks gave Carroll a five-year extension that runs through the 2025 NFL season.

While the numbers remain under wraps, ESPN’s Adam Schefter reports that Carroll became “one of, if not the, highest-paid head coach” in the league.

While Seahawks didn’t publicly announce the extension, Carroll acknowledged his new deal during a chat with reporters ahead of Week 9 game against Buffalo Bills on Sunday. According to the 69-year-old head coach, the deal was in the works for a long time, but both parties wanted to keep the negotiations under wraps.

“For a gesture like this from Jody Allen and the organization and all, and then, at a time when everybody’s suffering and struggling and all that,” said Carroll. “It was something that has been in the works for a long time. I’m talking about way before all the issues that have happened, and so it finally came together. “

The new contract comes as a reward for Pete Carroll and the big job he has done to keep Seattle Seahawks as contenders. Despite losing impactful players almost every season and having little continuity besides quarterback Russell Wilson, Carroll still managed to put Seattle in a position to win games and compete on the highest level.

Carroll joined the Seahawks organization in 2010 and has since become the franchise’s winningest head coach with 106-61-1. During his tenure, Seattle missed out on playoffs just twice while winning one Super Bowl and playing in another one.

Seattle Seahawks have given their quarterback Russell Wilson a record four-year, $140 million extension during the season, and it seems to be a great decision so far. Wilson has led the Seahawks to three wins in the first four games of 2019 while putting on some excellent performances during that stretch.

Wilson is currently completing a career-high 72.9 percent of his passes, while throwing for 1,141 and eight touchdowns. He is also only one of four QBs who haven’t threw an interception this season.

This all caused Seattle’s head coach Pete Carroll to treat his QB with some well-deserved praise on Thursday. According to Carroll, Wilson is currently playing the best football of his career.

“Russell is off to a really good start,” – said Carroll. “He’s playing great football, it’s the best he’s ever been.”

Asked to comment on this, Wilson agreed he has been good lately, but still thinks he can do better.

“I think I’m playing good,” – Wilson shared. “I think there’s some more things out there you can always try to do. I wish I could’ve found a way to win the game, the game we lost against the Saints. I wish I had that one back, somehow.”

Russell Wilson will have the opportunity to make up for the loss against Saints on Thursday when Seahawks meet Los Angeles Rams. The Rams have been a nightmare matchup for Seattle in recent years, beating them six out of eight times and handing them three defeats. If Wilson manages to dice through Rams defense, then there will be no doubt that he is the best or close to best he ever was.

Seattle Seahawks decided to reward their head coach Pete Carroll with a new deal after the team managed to clinch the wild-card berth with an impressive 38-31 win over the Kansas City Chiefs on Sunday. Carroll, whose old deal was expiring after the 2019 season, will now stay with the franchise through 2021.

This will continue the championship culture that we have created in Seattle,” Jody Allen, the team’s chair and trustee of the Paul G. Allen Trust, said in a statement.

Since joining the Seattle Seahawks from USC in 2010, Pete Carroll has led the team to seven playoff appearances in nine seasons while winning the Super Bowl after the 2013 season and making another Super Bowl trip the following year. Earlier in 2018, Carroll became the coach with most wins in the franchise’s history.

The organization has been exceedingly good to me throughout the whole time we’ve been here, and they’ve continued to take that position, and I couldn’t be happier,” – said the 67-year-old coach after inking the deal.

So grateful to Jody and the organization,” – he added. “I love this team and couldn’t be more proud to represent the 12s.

While Seattle had a successful year so far, few could have predicted that back in the offseason. The team decided to make several significant roster changes including moving on from legends like Richard Sherman and Michael Bennett.  Pete Carroll also fired his defensive and offensive coordinators among other coaching changes.

Then after the Seahawks started the season 0-2, speculations started circling that Carroll might decide to retire after this season and leave the rebuilding process to someone else. But the team bounced back with nine wins in 14 games and their future now seems bright.
