Needing help in the linebacker position, the Washington Football Team decided to turn to the Seattle Seahawks and get veteran Mychal Kendricks on their squad.

Kendricks, who is yet to play a game in 2020, is expected to be at head coach Ron Rivera’s disposal right away and can play against Carolina Panthers on Sunday. 

The 30-year-old player reportedly doesn’t have to go through standard COVID-19 protocols for new players as he was routinely tested with the Seahawks.

The addition of Kendricks will provide defensive depth for Washington since their linebacker core has been decimated by injuries lately. Starters Cole Holcomb and Kevin Pierre-Louis are still dealing with injuries and are questionable for Week 16, while backup Shaun Dion Hamilton hurt his hamstring last week and had to be placed on injured reserve.

Mychal Kendricks spent the better part of his pro career with the Philadelphia Eagles, who drafted him in the second round of the 2012 NFL Draft. His time with the franchise came to an end following a Super Bowl win in 2017, when he requested a trade due to a decrease in playing time.

Kendricks initially signed with the Cleveland Browns for the 2018 season but left the team due to off-the-field issues after few months. He later signed with Seattle.

Kendricks’ NFL career stats include 548 tackles, 19 sacks, 30 pass deflections, and seven forced fumbles.

Las Vegas Raiders turned to the free-agent market in an attempt to address their struggling linebacker core. According to ESPN’s Field Yates, the Raiders are hosting veteran Mychal Kendricks for a workout this week.

Kendricks spent 2019 with Seattle Seahawks, starting 14 games and delivering a solid campaign in which he had 71 tackles, 3.0 sacks, four pass deflections, and one interception. The 30-year-old g linebacker tore his ACL in the final Week of the past season, causing him to remain a free agent until now.

Raiders discussed a deal with Kendricks in the summer but opted not to sign him at the time. However, with a glaring need at LB position, the organization might be more motivated to get the deal done this time around.

During the offseason, the Raiders spent big on linebackers, signing Cory Littleton to a three-year, $35.25 million deal and giving Nick Kwiatkoski a three-year, $21 million contract. So far, these deals didn’t pan out the way the team hoped for, as both men struggled to make an impact in 2020.

Littleton was inconsistent for most of the time he spent on the field in the past five weeks and only has 27 tackles to show for. Kwiatkoski, on the other hand, was even less productive while missing two games due to an injury.

Kendricks is coming to Seattle after he was recently released by Cleveland Browns following insider trading charges. According to ESPN‘s Adam Schefter, Seahawks and Kendricks agreed to a one-year contract.

After a Super Bowl-winning season with the Philadelphia Eagles in 2017, Mychal Kendricks joined the Browns back in June on a one-year deal. Cleveland, however, decided to move on from the 27-year-old after it was discovered that he made roughly $1.2 million in illegal profits by taking part in major trades on which he had inside info. Kendricks pleaded guilty and will have a sentencing hearing on January 24, 2019. Until then there is no obstacle for the player to participate in NFL activities.

Mychal Kendricks was drafted in the second round of 2012 NFL Draft by the Philadelphia Eagles. Over the course of his professional career, Kendricks played 85 games in which he had 459 tackles, 14.0 sacks, three interceptions, and six forced fumbles. Although his productivity dipped in the last couple of season, he will still be a valuable addition to the Seattle Seahawks, who are in need of a linebacker.

Bobby Wagner, who is Seahawks’ leading linebacker, is currently out of practice due to a groin injury, while K.J. Wright, the team’s main weakside linebacker, is still recovering from arthroscopic knee surgery. In the season opener against Denver Broncos, Seattle used rookie Shaquem Griffin and two-year veteran Austin Calitro at this position, but the duo looked out of place and forced coach Pete Carol to dip into the free-agent market.
