Game 7 of the first round Western Conference series between the San Jose Sharks and the Las Vegas Golden Knights couldn’t have been any tighter.

Overtime was necessary to resolve the result between the two teams, with the Sharks taking the game, the win, and the series.

All this after climbing back from a 3-0 deficit that they faced in the middle of the third quarter and after living one of the most insane endings to an NHL playoff game in the history of the league.

After a major penalty was called against the Golden Knights’ Cody Eakin, the Sharks went on a 5-minute power play. What happened next was hard to believe.

The Sharks scored not one, not two, not three, but four goals in the five-minute span to take a 4-3 lead. The arena rocked as the fans cheered on a comeback that they could hardly believe or imagine possible.

Logan Couture scored two of the goals in this amazing comeback, and Tomas Hertl and Kevin Labanc added one each.

Incredibly, though, Vegas tied up the game with only 45 seconds to go with a Jonathan Marchessault goal to send the game to overtime.

The Sharks got the last laugh, however, as Barclay Goodrow scored a winner in the final two minutes to send the arena into pandemonium and book the Sharks a ticket to the next round to play against the Colorado Avalanche.

Evander Kane decided to skip the free agency this summer and instead sign a new deal with San Jose Sharks. The 26-year-old left winger inked a 7-year, $49 million deal with the Sharks, the team has announced on Thursday. According to ESPN, the deal also contains a limited no-trade clause.

It’s good to be wanted and I wanted them just as much as they wanted me,” – said Kane after signing the deal. “The fact that we were able to work out a deal so quickly reflects that. Obviously, when you’re a free agent you have the option to do what you want, and I made it clear to them that I didn’t want to go anywhere else.

San Jose Sharks acquired Evander Kane from Buffalo Sabres back in February, sending forward Danny O’Regan, a conditional first-round or second-round pick in 2019 NHL Draft and a conditional fourth-round pick in 2020 NHL Draft in exchange. Kane immediately made an impact with his new team, scoring nine goals and providing 5 assists in 17 games.

Since Kane ended up signing a deal with Sharks, the Sabres will now get their first-round pick in 2019 NHL Draft instead of second-rounders. Still, according to Sharks’ coach Peter DeBoer, the team will gladly pay that price.

You don’t find guys like this unless you’re picking in the top three, four guys in the draft, and no one wants to be there,” – said DeBoer. “When you’re signing free agents, especially elite players and guys that are going to play huge roles for you, you really want to know about them as much as possible. And you really don’t know a player until you stand behind the bench and are around them every day. So that was a nice luxury to have. I think we all felt comfortable that this was a guy that could help us win.

After locking in Evander Kane on a long-term deal, the Sharks will now be looking to bring back team’s all-time leader in points per game, Joe Thornton. Thornton previously said he was willing to return on a one year deal for a reduced price, in order to help Sharks to be more competitive next season.

San Jose Sharks’ center Joe Thornton is looking to stay with the team for the 2018-19 season as well. The 38-year-old decided to test the free agency in the past offseason, only to return and sign a one-year, $8 million deal with the Sharks. Now he doesn’t want to look elsewhere and would consider taking another short-term deal.

It’s no secret I’m a Shark,” – said Thornton on Tuesday. “I bleed teal and I want to come back and I know I’m going to be healthy when I come back. I’m sure we can figure something out, but I want to come back.

Thornton also said that he would even consider taking a pay cut in order to give the Sharks more room to acquire better players and make a serious Stanley Cup run in the next season.

I’m excited for this team,” – Thornton added. “A lot of guys made big leaps this year. I’m sure teams are always adding new things or trying at least to add new things. But if you’re a Shark fan, you’ve got to be excited for this team still.

In this year’s playoffs, the Sharks were eliminated in the second round following a loss to Vegas Golden Knights. Thornton couldn’t help his team being sidelined with ACL and MCL injuries in January. Before the injury, he had 13 goals and 23 assists in 47 games played.
Joe Thornton started his professional career in 1997 when the Boston Bruins selected him with the first overall pick in the NHL Entry Draft. He went on to spend seven seasons with the team, before being traded to the San Jose Sharks.

Since he arrived in San Jose, Thornton established himself as the leader of the team and is already considered the organization’s greatest player ever. He is currently the Sharks’ all-time leader in assists (722), +/- (+197) and points per game (1.01).
