Veteran quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo was as good as gone with the San Francisco 49ers last season but ended up staying with the franchise and even ended up starting 10 games before going down with an injury. But according to the 49ers’ head coach Kyle Shanahan, a similar scenario won’t happen in the future.

Shanahan spoke with reporters earlier this week and was asked at one point whether Garoppolo might return to the team for the 2023 NFL season.

“No, I don’t see any scenario of that,” Shanahan responded.

San Francisco was ready to move on from Jimmy Garoppolo after the 2021 season, installing second-year signal caller Trey Lance as their starter. Garoppolo was kept away from the team and was placed on the trade block. But despite their best efforts, the 49ers found a hard time moving the veteran as he was recovering from shoulder surgery.

Eventually, the two sides agreed on a reworked contract that would keep Garoppolo with the organization for one more season. He would serve as Lance’s backup for a year before hitting free agency.

But just two weeks into the 2022 campaign, Garoppolo was the 49ers’ starter again. Lance suffered a season-ending ankle injury, which prompted the San Francisco to turn to the 31-year-old. Garoppolo would go on to lead the team to a 7-3 record, throwing for 2,437 yards, 16 touchdowns, and only four interceptions, before suffering a season-ending injury himself.

While Garoppolo turned out to be great insurance for the 49ers in 2022, the team probably believes that they already have one in rookie Brock Purdy. The “Mr. Irrelevant” took over after Garoppolo went down and had seven straight wins before a loss in the NFC Championship that included Purdy playing most of the game with torn UCL in his elbow.

San Francisco 49ers quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo was absent from his team’s training session on Monday following a long holiday weekend. This was the result of two injuries, namely a fracture as well as a torn ulnar collateral ligament of the right thumb.

Garoppolo incurred these injuries early on during his team’s 20-17 loss to the Tennessee Titans on Thursday. As a result, his availability for the 49ers’ next game against the Houston Texans on Sunday remains uncertain.

“We knew his thumb was hurting him,” coach Kyle Shanahan explained. “We thought he jammed it sometime in the game, so he tells us right when he comes to the bench.”

Shanahan revealed that Garoppolo’s injury was incurred during the 49ers’ first offensive play of the third quarter.

As a result of Garoppolo’s absence, rookie quarterback Trey Lance took over his responsibilities during Monday’s “bonus” practice. Shanahan explained that, during this session, Lance became acquainted with the regular starters in what he called a “walk-through”.

Currently, there is no guarantee as to whether or not Garoppolo will play against the Texans on Sunday. Shanahan explained that this will depend on how the starting quarterback feels as well as an assessment of how well he is able to throw a ball in training upon his return.

The San Francisco 49ers are increasingly optimistic that their starting quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo might return for the Week 5 clash against the Arizona Cardinals. According to the team’s head coach Kyle Shanahan, Garoppolo’s injury is not as bad as it initially seemed, and there is a chance he plays on Sunday.

Garoppolo got hurt in a 21-28 loss to the Seattle Seahawks in Week 4, being forced to exit the game with a bruised calf at halftime. It appeared at first that he might be in for a longer spell on the sidelines, but an MRI test on Monday showed there is no major reason for concern.

“It does mean he has a chance,” Shanahan told reporters when asked about Garoppolo. “It wasn’t as bad as what we thought it might have been. He’s in a lot of pain, still sore. Hopefully, by the time he comes in Wednesday, if it’s getting better, then he’ll have a good chance. If it hasn’t improved at all by Wednesday, it will probably be a little bit longer.”

If Garoppolo can’t play against the Cardinals, the 49ers will be forced to turn to rookie Trey Lance as a starter under center. In the second half of the Seahawks’ game, Lance completed nine out of 18 passes attempted while throwing for 157 yards and two touchdowns. He also had 41 rushing yards on seven attempts.

Shanahan also offered an update about the Pro Bowl offensive tackle Trent Williams, who was dealing with a right shoulder injury.

“There is some fluid in there and stuff so there are some issues with it, but that’s something, hopefully, he can recover here before Sunday,” he explained.

San Francisco 49ers are looking to return to the Super Bowl this year, but that might be trickier than they think. Despite entering the Week 1 game against Arizona Cardinals as overwhelming favorites, the 49ers suffered a 20-24 loss and sparked a blaming game in the process.

Speaking with reporters after the match, the 49ers’ head coach Kyle Shanahan pointed a finger at his quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo and said that the 28-year-old QB’s “gotta play better” further down the road.

“He had some good plays in there, but just like the rest of the offense (he) had some missed opportunities,” Shanahan told reporters. “He’s gotta play better. We’ve all gotta play better. The entire offense missed opportunities.”

Garoppolo had 259 yards and two touchdowns against the Cardinals but struggled to get into a rhythm and generate offense in the decisive moments of the game. This was especially the case on the 49ers’ last drive when he missed two easy passes that would probably seal the game for his team.

Garoppolo didn’t mention any specifics when asked about the things he would like to do over but admitted his misses played a part in the loss.

“I can’t really put my finger on one (play) right now, but there’s a number of them,” said Garoppolo. “Missed throws, missed opportunities we usually make.”

Jimmy Garoppolo’s early struggles seem all too familiar for the 49ers, as his missed throws arguably cost them the Super Bowl trophy last season. In order for San Francisco to have a chance of embarking on another deep playoff run, Garoppolo will have to clean up his game and step up to the task. If not, don’t be surprised if the organization decides to consider other QB options next year.

San Francisco 49ers quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo has a new look on the ACL injury that limited him to just three games in 2018. According to Garoppolo, his injury was “blessing in disguise” as it enabled 49ers to get Pro Bowl pass rusher Nick Bosa.

The 2018 season supposed to be Garropolo’s first as a full-time starter, but he ended up tearing his ACL in Week 3, which ruled him out for the season. In his absence, San Francisco struggled and finished the year with 4-12 record, which got them the No.2 overall pick in 2019 NFL Draft. The team used it to draft Bosa, who had an immediate impact on the team in his rookie season.

Bosa finished this regular season as a Pro Bowler and PFWA Rookie of the Year, tallying 47 tackles, 9.0 sacks, and one interception. Seeing this big contribution of the young defensive end for his team, Garoppolo doesn’t have so many regrets about the time he missed in 2018.

“Things have a way of working out,” said Garoppolo during a press conference on Wednesday. “I always told myself it was a blessing in disguise, the ACL.”

“We got (Nick) Bosa out of it. That’s a pretty good trade-off, I guess. But yeah, things have a way of working out I guess. This ride is crazy,” he added.

With Jimmy Garoppolo healthy, 49ers managed to put together an impressive season in which they won the NFC West with 13-3 record that also got them the No.1 seed in their conference. 49ers will now face Green Bay Packers in the NFC Championship game after previously beating Minnesota Vikings in the Divisional Round.

San Francisco 49ers’ fairytale season continues. The 49ers faced Arizona Cardinals on Thursday night and came out with a 28-25 win, which kept them as the only unbeaten team besides New England Patriots in this season. They are now 8-0, their best start of the season since 1990.

The game against the Cardinals also saw 49ers’ quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo finally having a dominant performance this season. Garoppolo didn’t receive a lot of credit so far for San Francisco’s dominance, as their wins were attributed mostly to their running game and defense. But on Thursday night, the 27-year-old signal-caller was the main star of the team.

Arizona successfully stopped the 49ers running game, forcing them to turn to the passing game. Garoppolo welcomed the challenge and arguably delivered his best game as a 49er.

He completed 28-of-37 passes, throwing for 317 yards and career-high four touchdowns. He didn’t have a single interception while boosting a career-high passer rating of 136.9.

“He played great today,” – said San Francisco’s head coach Kyle Shanahan. “He made a lot of plays in rhythm and made a lot of off-schedule plays. … I thought Jimmy played a hell of a game. His best game yet, probably.”

Garoppolo’s performance also earned praise from his teammates.

“He’s pretty good,” – said tight end George Kittle after the game. “I don’t know why people don’t think he is. He makes some pretty gutsy throws out there, doesn’t he? Goodness gracious … I can’t say enough about how he brings us along.”

Garoppolo completed 70.8 percent of his passes this season, throwing for 1,806 yards and 13 TDs.

While we already knew for some time that San Francisco 49ers’ quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo has torn his ACL and won’t be playing football anymore this season, now we have the official confirmation. 49ers’ head coach Kyle Shanahan told reporters that Garoppolo underwent surgery to repair a torn ACL in his left knee on Wednesday morning.

Shanahan didn’t reveal any further details about the procedure and couldn’t give a time frame about Garoppolo’s return to the field.

It’s way too early,” – said Shanahan. “When he wakes up and I talk to the doctors who did it, we’ll get some clarity.

Sources close to 49ers, however, say that the 26-year-old will be out at least seven to nine months. He will join running back Jerick McKinnon, who also tore his ACL in the preseason and is looking towards a lengthy recovery.

Jimmy Garoppolo joined the San Francisco 49ers in October 2017, who sent a second round pick to New England Patriots in order to get him. He had five starts in 2017 season, winning in all five games and ending the year with 1,560 passing yards and seven touchdowns. In the offseason, 49ers signed Garoppolo to a five-year, $137.5 million extension, making him the highest paid player on an annual basis at the time.

In three games he played in 2018, Garoppolo completed 59.6 percent of his passes for 718 yards and five touchdowns. After his injury, 49ers’ turned to backup C.J. Beathard, who passed for 298 yards and two touchdowns in Sunday’s loss against the LA Chargers, which brought down San Francisco’s record to 1-3.

Things don’t look good for the San Francisco 49ers after Week 3 game against the Kansas City Chiefs. They did not only lose the game 27-38, but there is a possibility that they have lost their quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo for the rest of the season.

Late in the fourth quarter, the 26-year-old made a 13-yard run down the left sideline before meeting the Chiefs cornerback Steven Nelson. While Garoppolo had a chance to step out of bounds earlier, he extended the run for a few moments and took an awkward step before ramming into Nelson.

Soon after the play, Jimmy Garoppolo left the game and did not return. According to San Francisco 49ers head coach Kyle Shanahan, the team is afraid that Garoppolo tore his ACL.

With Jimmy, we’re fearing ACL. We’ll find out tomorrow. I haven’t had a chance to talk to him yet. I feel for him.” – said Shanahan after the game.

Garoppolo will undergo further tests on Monday to know the extent of his injury. But the 49ers are already preparing for the worst.

Anytime you lose your starting quarterback, that is a big deal,” – Shanahan added. “It was when we lost our starting running back [Jerick McKinnon] too. So obviously, I feel for him personally. I know how disappointed he is. I haven’t got a chance to see him yet. I feel for him.

With Jimmy Garoppolo out, the third-round pick from 2017, C.J. Beathard, will most likely step in as a starting quarterback. Beathard played seven games in his rookie season, passing for 1,430 yards, four touchdowns, and six interceptions.
