The Tennessee Titans’ starting quarterback Ryan Tannehill will not play in the team’s game against the Pittsburgh Steelers on Thursday night as he continues to battle through a right high ankle sprain. Titans coach Mike Vrabel wanted to monitor the starting quarterback’s progress throughout the week before coming to a final decision.

Tannehill was injured during the Titans’ Week 6 loss to the Baltimore Ravens. As a result, he wore a cast on his injured foot for a few days before switching over to a walking boot.

Rookie Will Levis will fill in for Tannehill at quarterback on Thursday. In his NFL debut in the 28-23 win over the Atlanta Falcons last week, Levis completed 19 of his 29 pass attempts for 238 yards and four touchdowns.

The Tennessee Titans’ quarterback Ryan Tannehill doesn’t want to spend much time thinking about a 16-15 loss to the New Orleans Saints in Week 1. The veteran signal-caller made that clear during a recent chat with reporters.

When asked about his feelings about the Saints’ loss, Tannehill said that he wants to move on from that game and wants to focus on the Week 2 clash against the Los Angeles Chargers.

“Guys, I just want to move on,” Tannehill said. “I’m not going to answer any more questions about what happened Sunday. I’m not happy about it. No one in this building’s happy about it, but at the end of the day, it’s over.”

Tannehill particularly struggled in the season opener, completing only 16 passes out of 34 attempts and throwing for 198 yards. He also had three interceptions and failed to throw a single touchdown pass.

After the game, Tannehill received criticism from his head coach Mike Vrabel, who said that his quarterback “has to be better.”

“We have to hit guys that are open, and we can’t force the ball into double coverage,” Vrabel added.

If Tannehill continues to struggle, the Titans have several options behind him, although neither one seems fit for the team’s playoff aspirations. Second-year signal-caller Malik Willis looked solid in the preseason but didn’t impress while rookie Will Levis will need time to adjust to the NFL.

In last year’s playoffs, Tennesee Titans star running back Derrick Henry ran wild against the Baltimore Ravens for 195 yards, knocking them out of the playoffs on their way to the AFC Championship Game.

The Ravens made sure that history wasn’t going to repeat itself in this year’s Super Wild-Card matchup.

The Baltimore defense dominated the line of scrimmage, holding Henry—who rushed for over 2,000 yards this season—to only 40 yards on 18 rushing attempts.

On offense, the Ravens rushing game excelled, led by star quarterback Lamar Jackson, who rushed for 136 yards and a touchdown on 16 attempts.

With Henry being taken out of the game completely, the Titans had to rely on the arm of quarterback Ryan Tannehill, who looked good leading the Titans offense in the first quarter, connecting numerous times with his Pro Bowl wide receiver A.J. Brown.

However, down 20-13 in the fourth quarter, Tannehill ended up throwing a costly interception, picked off by Ravens defensive back Marcus Peters, which sealed the win for the Ravens.

The Ravens will now head to Buffalo to face the Bills in the next round of the playoffs, while the Cleveland Browns, who upset the Pittsburgh Steelers on Sunday, will face the reigning Super Bowl champion Kansas City Chiefs.

After a storybook 2019 that saw Ryan Tannehill go from the Titans’ backup quarterback to one of the main reasons that the team advanced to the AFC Championship Game, the 31-year-old quarterback has now earned a big-time contract extension.

Tannehill agreed to a four-year, $118 contract extension with the Titans on Sunday. $62 million of that money, according to reports, is fully guaranteed.

The new deal for Tannehill puts an end to speculation that the Titans would pursue free agent quarterback Tom Brady in free agency, an option that was reportedly considered by the team.

The 31-year-old Texas native signed a one-year deal with the Titans to be the team’s backup quarterback prior to the 2019 season. Tannehill had spent the first six seasons of his career as the Miami Dolphins’ starter after being drafted with the eighth overall pick in the 2012 NFL Draft.

Despite originally backing up Marcus Mariota, he won the job after the team’s former starting quarterback was benched during the team’s Week 6 game against the Denver Broncos. He impressed as the team’s quarterback as the starter, passing for 2,742 yards at a 70.3% completion clip.

Tannehill finished the season with 22 touchdowns and only 6 interceptions.

With his new, shiny contract, Tannehill will be looked towards as the Titans’ main building block on the offensive side of the ball as the team looks to continue to contend for Super Bowl titles.

Since taking over from Marcus Mariota as Tennessee Titans’ starting quarterback in Week 7, Ryan Tannehill has played sensationally. He looked like one of the best QBs in the league and managed to lead the Titans to six wins in seven games and get them close to a playoff spot. All of this will now most likely bring him a contract to remain a starter in Tennessee.

It was previously believed that Titans will use a franchise tag on Tannehill to keep him for one more season, before finding a QB of the future. Now, ESPN’s Dianna Russini reports that Tennessee’s front office is discussing how to make a long-term offer to the 31-year-old and keep him as their franchise quarterback.

Titans initially brought in Ryan Tannehill as security for Mariota, who often struggled with injuries in the past few seasons. However, following 2-4 start of the season, Mariota was benched and Tannehill stepped in to try and save Tennessee’s season. And he did just that.

Since being named a starter, Tannehill has been completing over 70 percent of his passes and managed to throw for 1,849 yards and 15 touchdowns. Thanks to this, Titans also emerged as one of the best offenses in NFL, averaging 369.0 total yards of offense and 29.7 points per game.

Week 10 of the NFL season has come and gone, and unbelievably, we are already nearly 60% of the way through the season.

There were clashes of titans last weekend, like the Sunday clash between the Seahawks and the 49ers, as well as memorable performances such as Ravens QB Lamar Jackson’s demolition of the Cincinnati Bengals.

Here is a look at the biggest winners of Week 10 in the National Football League.

Lamar Jackson

Ravens quarterback Lamar Jackson absolutely went off in his team’s 49-13 rout of the Bengals on Sunday. The current MVP frontrunner had arguably his best game as a professional, throwing for a total of 223 yards and 2 touchdowns on only 15 completions, also chipping in with 65 yards on the ground and a rushing touchdown.

At this point, Jackson and the 7-2 Ravens are one of the biggest surprises of the NFL season, and they’ll be looking to do even more down the stretch and into the playoffs.

Seattle Seahawks

Who said the NFC West race was already finished? The Seahawks, who have won the division in three of the past six seasons, climbed back into the hunt with a gritty Sunday night win over the previously-unbeaten 49ers that went into overtime at Century Link Field.

The Seahawks now sit at 8-2, only a half-game behind San Francisco, and have quarterback Russell Wilson playing arguably the best football of his career. Can Seattle hunt down Jimmy Garroppolo’s 49ers down the stretch? It looks even more possible now.

Ryan Tannehill

Not many expected the Titans to get much production out of new starting quarterback Ryan Tannehill after Marcus Mariota’s benching, but the former Dolphins quarterback has shown that he has something to offer.

Tannehill went off in the Titans’ surprising Sunday win over the Kansas City Chiefs, throwing for 181 yards and 2 touchdowns in a 35-32 thriller. Not only this, but he showed his steely veteran nerve down the stretch as he led the Titans down the field on their game-winning drive. He’s now thrown for 1,161 yards with 8 touchdowns and 4 interceptions since taking over. Has the former first-rounder revived his career?

Oakland Raiders

After all of the pre-season turmoil and question marks related to an inexperienced roster as well as the Antonio Brown saga, few could have pictured the Raiders with a 5-4 record and tied with the Steelers for the AFC’s final wild-card spot.

Yet, here we are. Jon Gruden’s team advanced past .500 for the first time all season with a 26-24 win over the Chargers on Thursday night. What’s even more surprising is that they only trail Kansas City by a half-game in the AFC West race. Could they shock the world and make the playoffs?

Only four and a half years after selecting quarterback Marcus Mariota with the 2nd overall pick in the NFL Draft, the Tennessee Titans had enough on Sunday afternoon in a loss to the Denver Broncos.

Titans coach Mike Vrabel had enough in the third quarter of Tennessee’s 16-0 loss to the Broncos in Denver on Sunday, benching Mariota after a frustrating first half.

Mariota completed only 7 of 15 passes in a dreadful game against a weak Broncos secondary, throwing for 63 yards and two interceptions. The performance was a lowlight on a bad day for the Titans, who moved to 2-4 on the season with the loss.

Vrabel replaced Mariota with former Dolphins quarterback Ryan Tannehill, who was signed during the offseason to serve as the Hawaiian’s backup. The former #8 overall pick played better, going 13-16 through the air for 144 yards. He did, however, throw an interception.

The former Oregon Duck has had a slow start to the season, only having thrown for 1,179 yards and 7 touchdowns in the game’s first five games. His two interceptions on Sunday were his first picks of the season.

It’s still unknown if the move to put Tannehill in as quarterback will be a permanent decision or if Mariota will regain his starting position. What’s undeniable is that there is now quarterback uncertainty and controversy in Nashville.

At the beginning of 2018, quarterback Ryan Tannehill was the starting quarterback of the Miami Dolphins and had the opportunity to show that he was still a franchise player. After another inconsistent season, however, Tannehill was shipped to Tennessee Titans and now awaits the next NFL season as Marcus Mariota’s backup.

“It’s definitely tough at times,” – Tannehill told reporters when asked about the transition. “But Marcus is great to work with. The staff here, Marcus, the quarterback room is really great, and when you work with good people — great people — and you’re all aligned in this thing together trying to win football games, it definitely helps with that transition. But there are some things that are tough about it, but kinds of goes along with it.”

This will be the first time that Ryan Tannehill is a backup in his NFL career. He was drafted eighth overall by the Dolphins in 2012 and immediately got the starting job. When Tannehill didn’t start in the previous seven years, it was mostly due to injuries.

“When you’re the starter, there are certain things that you’re able to do as far as leading and stuff like that,” – he added. “So, really having to kind of take a step back in a leadership role I would say is the toughest role for me. You work at it for so many years, growing leadership and all that, then having to take a step back and really have a back seat is tough, really tough at times.”

During his time with Miami, Tannehill played a total of 88 games while compiling 42-46 record. He completed 62.8 percent of his passes for 20,434 passing yards and 123 touchdowns.

The Miami Dolphins are reportedly ready to “move on” from quarterback Ryan Tannehill at the end of this season. The quarterback’s contract will be due next year but the Dolphins are not willing to extend it anymore.

Allowing Tannehill to leave will allow the Dolphins to save around $38 million as he would have earned $19 million each year his contract was extended after 2019. The quarterback also has a cap hit of $26.6 million starting next season.

Should the Dolphins designate Tannehill’s release post June 1st, they will save $18.7 million as per Barry Jackson of the Miami Herald. However, that option would lead to a dead money cap in 2020.

Tannehill told the Palm Beach Post early this week his wishes is to end his career with the Dolphins but he is set on winning games before his future’s decision is made.

“Honestly, I haven’t put a whole lot of thought into it,” the quarterback said. “I have a lot of belief in myself. I know what I can bring to the table wherever it is. But I want to be here. I want to finish my career as a Dolphin and win a championship here. That’s what they brought me here for and that’s what I came to do.”
