It turns out that even the tanking Miami Dolphins don’t have the patience to wait for some players to reach their potential. Dolphins announced on Tuesday that they have released defensive end Robert Nkemdiche.

Nkemdiche, who was a first-round pick in 2016, joined Dolphins on a one-year, $1.16 million deal in August. He leaves Miami, having played just 18 snaps in two games and failing to record any of the defensive statistics.

Besides releasing Nkemdiche, Dolphins also announced that they have placed talented wide receiver Preston Williams on injured reserve while signing cornerback Marcus Sherels and running back De’Lance Turner in corresponding moves.

After a successful three years of college football at Ole Miss, Robert Nkemdiche decided to enter the 2016 NFL Draft, where Arizona Cardinals took him 29th overall. He struggled to find playing time and be productive in his first two seasons as a pro, Nkemdiche finally managed to show flashes of his talent in 2018.

Nkemdiche started 10 games for the Cardinals last season and put together a respectable stat line which included 32 tackles, 4.5 sacks, and one forced fumble. Despite this, Arizona decided to release him in July after he came to training camp “out of shape.”
