It appears that Rob Gronkowski’s retirement from NFL might not be for good as he hinted earlier. During his recent chat with ESPN, Gronkowski admitted that there is still a chance he will play football again.

Gronkowski told the magazine that he might return at some point, but that he is definitely sitting out 2019.

“I wouldn’t say ‘never coming back,'” – said Gronkowski. “I’m 30 years old. I’m young. I still stay fit, still watch the game whenever I can, still enjoy it. I’m feeling good, but you know, one year off could possibly be the case. Or maybe two years off, man.”

According to Gronkowski, the return to football remains an option and he will be ready for it if he ever changes his mind about retirement.

“It’s always an option in the back of my head.” – he added. “It’s not like I’m not staying in shape and not doing anything. I’m never stressed over it.”

Despite the fact that Rob Gronkowski is retired since March, the rumors and talks about his return never really died out. The latest one came a few weeks ago when NFL Network reported that New England Patriots’ owner Robert Kraft was pushing for Gronkowski’s return for the playoffs this year.

This isn’t a likely move, since Gronkowski would have to be activated by Week 13 in order to be eligible to play in 2019. But 2020 looks more likely now than ever.

While New England Patriots hope Rob Gronkowski might change his retirement decision at some point, it seems like this won’t happen anytime soon. The 30-year-old Pro Bowl tight end recently double down on his exit from professional football, saying he won’t return to NFL in “foreseeable future.”

Gronkowski, however, didn’t rule out the possibility of getting back into the action in the future.

“Maybe down the road. I have to have that passion,” – Gronkowski explained. “I have to have the fire. I’m not going to go out there and be beat the (expletive) up. That’s not the way to live.”

Rob Gronkowski’s professional career only lasted for nine years before he retired, but he is still considered one of the best tight ends in the history of the game. Since New England Patriots took him 42nd overall in 2010 NFL Draft, Gronkowski won three Super Bowls, made five Pro Bowls and earned four First-Team All-Pro honors. His NFL career stats include 521 receptions for 7,861 yards and 79 touchdowns.

Gronk announced his retirement in March, citing pain and mental health as reasons for the decision.
