The Chicago White Sox announced on Monday that they had decided to fire manager Rick Renteria after four seasons at the helm of the club.

Renteria took over the White Sox prior to the 2017 season and finishes his term as the team’s manager with a 236-309 (.436) record.

The White Sox, who managed to make the MLB playoffs for the first time in 2008 in the 2020 season before bowing out in the AL Wild Card Round to the Oakland Athletics, have decided to search for a new manager as they embark upon the franchise’s new path.

Chicago saw a slew of young, talented players such as Luis Robert and Nick Madrigal debut this season alongside a veteran core of talented players including free-agent addition Yasmani Grandal and 2019 AL Batting Title winner Tim Anderson.

The team improved, finishing 35-25, but disappointed many after exiting early in the playoffs.

Despite this, the White Sox’s general manager Rick Hahn insisted that this had nothing to do with the organization’s decision. “This isn’t about anything that happened over the last couple of weeks after we clinched our position into the playoffs. This is based upon where we are as an organization and what we need to do to take that next step,” he said.

The organization is now set to head out upon a search for a new face which they hope will help the Sox take the next step towards World Series contention.
