The loss to Los Angeles Rams wasn’t the only bad thing that happened to Seattle Seahawks on Sunday. The team announced on Monday that their running back Rashaad Penny tore his ACL in the Rams’ game which will cause him to miss the remainder of the season.

Reportedly, Penny also suffered additional damage to his knee, and won’t return to action until training camp.

The news was confirmed by Seahawks’ head coach Pete Carroll.

“He has had a big impact the past few weeks and we’ve really liked his contribution, so you miss him,” – said Carroll. “A guy like that, you just don’t replace it; you go to the next guy and he brings what he has. Unfortunately, we missed him (in Sunday’s game) and we’re going to miss him the rest of the season.”

The injury was bad news for both Seahawks, who lost a significant piece in their backfield, and Penny himself, who was picking up pace after an underwhelming rookie season. The 23-year-old racked up more than 200 yards rushing and two touchdowns in the previous two games.

With Penny out, Seattle is expected to increase the workload of their main RB Chris Carson while hoping they can get something out of C.J. Prosise and Travis Homer as well. Seahawks are currently in the middle of a race for NFC West title, being one game behind the first-place San Francisco 49ers.
