Rafael Nadal was eliminated from the Brisbane International after losing 5-7, 7-6 (6), 6-3 to local talent Jordan Thompson in the quarterfinals. This was the 22-time Grand Slam champion’s first tournament since returning from a hip flexor injury after a year-long absence.

“I hope to have the chance to be practicing next week and to play in Melbourne,” Nadal commented after his loss, referring to this year’s Australian Open. It was during this grand slam that Nadal suffered his injury, forcing him out of the tournament and resulting in him undergoing a season-ending surgery.

While the 37-year-old breezed through his first two matches with straight-set victories over Dominic Thiem and Jason Kubler, his match against Thompson was a grueling one, lasting three hours and 25 minutes. The length of the match took a toll on Nadal’s body, with the former ATP world number one being assessed by a trainer during the third set for an upper left leg injury. Following his medical timeout, he saw out the match.

Rafael Nadal is expected to miss the remainder of this year’s ATP Tour after undergoing surgery on a hip muscle, his representative, Benito Perez-Barbadillo, confirmed. The recovery time for this injury is expected to be five months.

“Rafa will begin his progressive functional rehabilitation in a few hours, and the normal recovery process is estimated at five months, always taking into account respecting the biological times of said structure,” Perez-Barbadillo told reporters.

Currently, joint-holder of the men’s singles record for career Grand Slams at 22 titles, Nadal has been sidelined since January, when he withdrew from his second-round match in the Australian Open after suffering a hip flexor injury.

Previously, Nadal hinted that 2024 could be his final season of tennis before retirement. While he misses this season’s Roland Garros, Nadal will hope to recover in time to be able to make one last appearance at the 2024 French Open; the tournament he has won on a record 14 occasions.

Rafael Nadal announced on Thursday that he wouldn’t take part in this year’s French Open due to a hip injury. The Spanish tennis player also said that he will likely retire after the 2024 tennis season.

Nadal didn’t play since January when he was eliminated in the second round of the Australian Open by Mackenzie McDonald. The 37-year-old player was visibly bothered by a hip injury from which he still hasn’t recovered four months later.

Speaking with Spanish media this week, Nadal said that he wanted to play at French Open but that his body wasn’t ready for the challenge.

“Even though your head wants to keep going, your body says this is as far it goes,” Nadal told the reporters.

Nadal expects that he won’t be ready to play again for at least several months but does intend to make one final run next year.

“You never know how things will turn out, but my intention is that next year will be my last year,” he added.

Rafael Nadal is currently tied with Novak Djokovic for most Grand Slam titles with 22. More than half of those titles (14) came at French Open, where he has played every year since 2018 and has a 112-3 record. He was forced to withdraw at the 2016 French Open due to a wrist injury before the third round.

Rafael Nadal is looking to make his return from his hip injury at the Monte Carlo Masters next month, thereby giving himself some clay court action before the return of Roland Garros.

The tournament, which begins on April 8, will be Nadal’s first appearance since the Australian Open, which he pulled out of after picking up a left hip flexor injury. He also missed out on the Indian Wells and Miami Open Masters tournaments as a result of his injury.

“Rafa was the first [player] to be registered,” Monte Carlo Masters tournament director David Massey confirmed on Wednesday. “He really wants to play at the Monte Carlo Masters and is giving himself every chance to take part in the tournament he’s so fond of.”

At 36 years old, Rafael Nadal holds the record for most wins at the Monte Carlo Masters, winning the tournament a record 11 times. This includes an Open era record streak of eight consecutive titles from 2005 to 2012.

For Nadal, the Monte Carlo Masters is a key part of his preparation for the Roland Garros Grand Slam, where he has won 14 titles. Nadal has won a record 22-time Grand Slams throughout his career.

An exhibition match between Rafael Nadal and Carlos Alcaraz scheduled to take place in Las Vegas on Sunday has been canceled after both Spaniards incurred injuries. Customers who already purchased tickets will be refunded as a result.

The organizers of the event revealed on Wednesday that the 19-year-old Alcaraz injured his right hamstring. While not yet confirmed to be an injury of a severe nature, Alcaraz has also pulled out of this week’s tournament in Acapulco, Mexico as a result.

Nadal has been injured since January when he picked up a hip flexor problem. As a result, he was sidelined during the Australian Open and will now miss the upcoming Indian Wells and Miami Open Masters 1000 tournaments.

With both players at opposite ends of their careers, the exhibition match would have shown two generational talents hailing from Spain. Nadal currently holds a record 22 Grand Slam titles, while the teenaged Alcaraz claimed his first Grand Slam success at the US Open last year. The countrymen finished the 2022 season as the top two players in the ATP World Rankings.

Spaniard Rafael Nadal is ready to make his return to tennis after missing the last two months due to a knee injury. Nadal is set to make an appearance at Paris Masters next week and will try to win this tournament for the first time in his career. According to organizers, the 31-year-old arrived in Paris on Friday.

Rafael Nadal will have a bye in the first round at Paris Masters and will face either Fernando Verdasco or Jeremy Chardy in the second round. Further down the road, Nadal could face defending 2017 Paris Masters winner Jack Sock in the third round and then meet Dominic Thiem in the quarterfinals. Good thing for him, however, is that both Roger Federer and Novak Djokovic are on the other side of the bracket, and could only meet them in the finals.

Rafael Nadal played his last tournament in September when he reached the semifinals of US Open and was the favorite to win the title. In the semi-final match against Juan Martin del Potro, however, he lost the two opening sets and then was forced to quit the game due to a knee injury. Nadal has been struggling with knee issues for several years now and was forced to retire from multiple tournaments in the past because of this problem.

Rafael Nadal will enter the Paris Masters as the No.1 ranked tennis player in the world, but he may not hold the position for too long. Novak Djokovic is only 215 points behind him and has an advantage of being record four times winner of the tournament.
