Buffalo Bills signed Quinton Spain to a three-year, $15 million deal in March with the intention to have him as their guard in years to come. Seven months later, however, Spain is no longer a member of the organization.

Bills confirmed on Wednesday that they are releasing Spain, making an official announcement on social media.

Spain entered 2020 as the Bills’ starting left guard, having been all-present for Buffalo in the previous season. However, the 29-year-old offensive lineman lost his starting spot after just two games and didn’t even play in Week 5 and week 6.

Bills felt more comfortable with 2019’s second-round pick Cody Ford as left guard lately, while veteran Brian Winters took the right guard position. With Jon Feliciano also expected to return from injury in the coming weeks, Buffalo felt that Spain’s $5 million annual salary is too much for a backup guard.

Quinton Spain started his career with the Tennesse Titans, who signed him as an undrafted free agent out of West Virginia in 2015. Spain went on to start 48 games for Titans at left guard in four years. He left Tennesse following the 2018 season.
