Veteran cornerback Quinton Dunbar might finally get the change of scenery he has been looking for. According to Pro Football Talk, Washington Redskins are willing to let go of Dunbar and have made him available in trade talks.

Dunbar wanted out of Washington since the season ended, and has even made an official trade request. Redskins weren’t eager to accommodate him at first, but it looks like they have changed their mind in recent weeks.

Dunbar is coming off a productive season in which he had 37 tackles, eight pass deflections, and career-high four interceptions. Backed by these numbers he feels that he deserved a better contract than $3.25 million he is set to earn in 2020. The issue is also that none of the money he has coming is guaranteed.

Since the Redskins don’t view the corner position as a priority at the moment, they are unwilling to give Quinton Dunbar the contract improvements he is looking for. Instead, they decided to try and get some assets for him in return while allowing him to get the money somewhere else.

Dunbar entered the league in 2015 as an undrafted free agent. In the past five seasons, he made 25 starts, contributing with 150 tackles, 1.0 sacks, 35 pass deflections, and 9 interceptions.

There is another Washington Redskins’ player who is looking for ways to leave the organization. After Trent Williams publicly asked to be traded last season, now cornerback Quinton Dunbar has made a similar request.

According to ESPN’s John Keim, Dunbar asked the Redskins to either trade him or outright release him. The reason is reportedly his contract, which will pay the 27-year-old CB around $3.25 million in 2020. However, the issue is that none of it’s guaranteed.

Dunbar started 11 games for Redskins in 2019 and had 37 tackles to go with eight passes defended and career-high four interceptions. Towards the end of the season, he had exploratory talks with the team about an extension, but since then, the front office and coaching structure changed dramatically.

The sources close to the player say that Dunbar won’t report for the team’s OTAs in order not to risk an injury. Also, if Redskins don’t give him a raise or don’t honor his request, he intends to play out the 2020 and then find a new team.

Quinton Dunbar joined the Redskins in 2015 as an undrafted free agent. After mostly serving as a backup during the first three years of his NFL career, Dunbar managed to earn a starting spot ahead of the 2018 season. He was, however, limited to only seven games that season due to injuries.

Redskins reportedly appreciate Dunbar and consider him one of the game’s best corners but have concerns about his health. The team currently has several tough decisions to make in their secondary, so Dunbar might have to wait a bit more to see his situation resolved.
