Quinn Cook has reportedly agreed to a one-year contract with the Sacramento Kings, a source revealed to ESPN on Monday. This comes after the 29-year-old player worked out with the Kings in Las Vegas during the NBA summer league in July.

Cook is expected to compete for the Kings’ third point guard spot, while his experience is largely expected to help boost the performances of the team’s younger points guards, De’Aaron Fox and Davion Mitchell.

The point guard has played 188 NBA games throughout his career, averaging 6.4 points, 1.6 assists, and 1.7 rebounds. During this time, he has racked up a wealth of playoff experience, winning the NBA Championship with the Golden State Warriors in 2018 and again with the Los Angeles Lakers in 2020.

During the 2020-21 season, Cook left the Lakers for the Cleveland Cavaliers and played a combined 23 games for both teams that season. His final game that season came when the Cavs took on the Lakers on March 26, 2021. As the season wound down to a close along with his contract, Cook was unable to find a new team in the NBA. As a result, he played with the Stockton Kings in the NBA G League.

The Los Angeles Lakers are waiving veteran guard Quinn Cook according to multiple reports. Cook spent the previous two years with the franchise and was part of the team that won the NBA championship last season.

Cook’s release doesn’t come as a surprise as the Lakers are expected to be aggressive on the buyout market and need roster spots to do so. The 27-year-old guard was the one to go since he hasn’t played much this season, averaging only 3.9 minutes per game.

Cook initially joined the Lakers in the summer of 2019 and was an important bench contributor for the team during the regular season. He didn’t see much playing time in the playoffs but was still regarded highly for his locker room influence.

While the Lakers don’t have room for Quinn Cook on their team anymore, he isn’t expected to remain a free agent for long. Several teams are already interested in his services, and Cook should be back on the floor in no time.

Cook averaged 6.4 points, 1.7 rebounds, and 1.6 assists per game since making his NBA debut in 2017. Besides the Lakers, he also played for the Dallas Mavericks, New Orleans Pelicans, and Golden State Warriors.

The Lakers, on the other hand, will now have two roster spots available to get impact players. The first spot may potentially go to DeMarcus Cousins, who is in the process of being released by the Houston Rockets.

According to ESPN, point guard Quinn Cook has earned himself a multi-year contract with the Golden State Warriors. Cook, who is currently on a two-way contract with the franchise, is expected to sign a standard NBA deal before April 10th.

NBA introduced two-way contracts before the start of this season, allowing the teams to use the players in both NBA and on their G League affiliate’s rosters. The players under two-way contracts, however, are not eligible to play in the NBA postseason. April 10th is the final deadline by which the teams can sign a player and make him playoff-eligible.

With Stephen Curry out with an injury, Quinn Cook has seen his minutes grow exponentially in the last 10 games. The Golden State Warriors are in need of a point guard since Curry won’t be back for the first playoff round, so Cook is expected to become the first player in history who turned a two-way contract into a full deal. The Warriors already have 15 guaranteed contracts on their roster, and will have to waive a player in order to sign Cook.

Quinn Cook went undrafted in 2015 NBA Draft and had stints with the Dallas Mavericks and New Orleans Pelicans, as well as playing for Canton Charge in the NBA Development League. In 2017 he joined the Warriors, getting his first NBA start in December 2017. In the current NBA season, Cook has played in 29 games and averaged 8.9 points, 2.3 rebounds, and 2.5 assists per game.
