The NFL unveiled the list of players invited for the 2024 Pro Bowl Games, which are set to take place in Orlando, Florida, on February 4. The selection leans heavily on the San Francisco 49ers, who have quarterback Brock Purdy and eight other players on the list.

IN NFC, Purdy is joined by Los Angeles Rams’ Matthew Stafford and Dallas Cowboys’ Dak Prescott. The AFC quarterbacks to be featured in the 2024 Pro Bowl are Miami Dolphins’ Tua Tagovailoa, Baltimore Ravens’ Lamar Jackson, and Kansas City Chiefs’ Patrick Mahomes.

Purdy is the first 49ers’ quarterback to make the Pro Bowl since Jeff Garcia received the honor in 2002. On the other hand, Tagovailoa is the first Dolphins’ signal caller to get an invite since Hall of Famer Dan Marino in 1995.

The 49ers’ nine Pro Bowlers are more than any other team in the NFL in 2024. Besides Purdy, tight end George Kittle, running back Christian McCaffrey, fullback Kyle Juszczyk, defensive end Nick Bosa, defensive tackle Javon Hargrave, linebacker Fred Warner, cornerback Charvarius Ward, and tackle Trent Williams all got in.

The Ravens and the Cowboys each have seven players in the 2024 Pro Bowl, while 28 teams have at least one player invited. The only franchises without a Pro Bowler this year are the Carolina Panthers, Green Bay Packers, New England Patriots, and Washington Commanders.

The Baltimore Ravens will have a Pro Bowl quarterback in 2022. However, it won’t be Lamar Jackson who will make the trip to Las Vegas for the Pro Bowl festivities. Instead, his backup Tyler Huntley is the one receiving the nod.

Huntley will be a Pro Bowler despite throwing only two passing touchdowns and adding one rushing TD in six games he played during the regular season. According to ESPN, no other Pro Bowl QB has had fewer passing TDs since 1970. Also, Huntley has three interceptions, making him the first QB to go to Pro Bowl with more interceptions than touchdowns since Vince Young (12-13) did it in 2006.

When the Pro Bowl selections were first announced, Patrick Mahomes (Kansas City Chiefs) was the starter, with Josh Allen (Buffalo Bills) and Joe Burrow (Cincinnati Bengals) being selected as the backups. Since Mahomes is Super Bowl-bound and Allen is dealing with an injury, the league had to turn to alternates.

Huntley was the fourth alternate but ended up being selected since the first three alternates – Miami Dolphins’ Tua Tagovailoa, Los Angeles Chargers’ Justin Herbert, and Lamar Jackson can’t participate due to injuries.

Besides Tyler Huntley, Derek Carr (Las Vegas Raiders) and Trevor Lawrence (Jacksonville Jaguars) will also attend the upcoming Pro Bowl as alternates.

The 2022 Pro Bowl comes with a changed format. Instead of AFC vs. NFC game, the league will organize a flag football game alongside various skill competitions.

NFL is finally admitting that its current Pro Bowl format doesn’t work. According to multiple reports, the league is preparing to make some significant changes to the annual festivity, and one of them might be eliminating the Pro Bowl game altogether.

On Tuesday, NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell confirmed the news and said the league is considering alternative ways to “celebrate our players.”

“I think the conclusion [of discussions] was that the game itself doesn’t work,” Goodell said. “And we need to find another way to celebrate our players.”

Pro Bowl games have been around since 1938, but their popularity has been on the decline for some time now. The major issue is that the players rightfully don’t want to risk getting injured during an exhibition, so the level of competitiveness becomes non-existent.

However, some other events that take place during the Pro Bowl weekend, like dodgeball and QB challenge, have been quite successful, and there is a chance they might be around in the future.

“We’ve talked about some of the events around the Pro Bowl are really, extremely popular, whether the quarterback challenge or some of the other events,” Goodell added. “So those are some of the things we will continue to discuss.”

The league is being tightlipped about its plans for now but is reportedly expected to make the final decision at some point in the summer.

For the first time since 1949, the NFL will not be hosting its annual Pro Bowl game because of obvious concerns related to the COVID-19 pandemic.

The league’s primary focus right now is to try to get through the entire season and postseason with minimal impact by the coronavirus.

So far, the NFL has done a decent job playing during a pandemic, but there have been several hiccups along the road through the first five weeks of the 2020 season.

A total of 12 games have been postponed or reschedule so far and there have been a total of 11 teams that have reported positive COVID-19 cases among their players and staff.

The team that was most impacted was the Tenessee Titans, who had one game rescheduled and one postponed after more than 20 players and personnel tested positive.

The league announced that the 2022 Pro Bowl will be held in Las Vegas, the city that was supposed to host it this year in its brand new Allegiant Stadium.

Even though there won’t be a Pro Bowl game, there will still be Pro Bowl teams and fans are still encouraged to participate in voting and celebrating the achievements of their favorite players.

Orlando is set to become a gathering place for the best football players in the world for the fourth straight year. NFL announced on Wednesday that the 2020 Pro Bowl will take place at Orlando’s Camping World Stadium on January 26, 2020.

Orlando hosted the previous three Pro Bowls and it seems like the league loved the job they did in 2016, 2017, and 2018.

“We’re thrilled to return to Orlando for the fourth year in a row and bring the Pro Bowl experience to the city of Orlando, our fans, players and partners,” – said NFL executive vice president of club business and league events Peter O’Reilly in a statement. “We’re happy to provide not only a week-long celebration of football but also to extend the celebration of the NFL’s 100th season throughout this year’s Pro Bowl.”

After all but one Pro Bowl matches from 1979 to 2015 were played in Honolulu, Hawaii, the league decided to host the 2014 edition of the event in Arizona, where that year’s Super Bowl was played. Although it was expected that NFL might begin rotating the hosts on a yearly basis, Pro Bowl was returned to Honolulu in 2015 and then give to Orlando the following year.

The reason for why Orlando remained the host of the Pro Bowl since then and might be in the future is the fact that the city not only did a great job in organizing the event but is also a place where players feel comfortable. Also, the city doesn’t have an NFL team, and it is a great marketing move to give football fans in Orlando a taste of their favorite sport.
