According to multiple reports around the league, Arizona Cardinals agreed to a deal with veteran corner Prince Amukamara. The deal is expected to be official once Amukamara receives a negative COVID-19 test.

If everything goes well, Amukamara, who was released by Las Vegas Raiders in August, is expected to make his debut for Arizona in Week 7.

Amukamara should provide cornerback depth for the Cardinals’ secondary that has been struggling with injuries lately. The team previously lost starter Robert Alford to a season-ending injury, while his replacement Dre Kirkpatrick is currently dealing with calf issues.

Prince Amukamara entered the NFL in 2011 as NY Giants’ first-round pick. He spent four years in New York, winning a Super Bowl ring, before embarking on stints with Jacksonville Jaguars, Chicago Bears, and Raiders.

Amukamara spent 2019 starting for Bears and proved himself as a solid option on the corner position. He finished the year with 53 tackles, one forced fumble, and 10 pass deflections.

His NFL career stats include 99 starts, 477 tackles, 78 pass deflections, 10 interceptions, six forced fumbles, and one defensive touchdown.

Veteran cornerback Prince Amukamara is ending his stint with La Vegas Raiders after just three months. NFL Network reported on Monday that the Raiders cut Amukamara and that the 31-year-old player is now a free agent.

Amukamara signed a one-year deal with the Raiders in May and was expected to be a starter for the 2020 season. However, the emergence of the team’s younger players during training camp quickly made him surplus, and the organization quickly decided to move on.

Raiders will now turn to rookie Damon Arnette, the team’s 19th overall pick in the 2020 NFL Draft. Arnette, who excelled during training camp according to reports, is expected to slide in the starting position alongside Trayvon Mullen. The team is also high on 2020’s second-round pick Amik Robertson and youngsters Isaiah Johnson and Keisean Nixon, who are entering their sophomore season in NFL.

Amukamara, on the other side, shouldn’t be unemployed for long. There are several teams looking for depth in secondary, and he can be both a cheap and dependable option.

Prince Amukamara started his career as New York Giants’ first-round pick in 2011, but never managed to justify this investment. After four lukewarm years in New York, during which he won a Super Bowl, Amukamara spent one season with Jacksonville Jaguars before suiting up for Chicago Bears.

Amukamara’s career stats include 477 tackles, 6 forced fumbles, 10 interceptions, and 1 touchdown.

The Las Vegas Raiders made an important move on Tuesday, agreeing to terms with veteran NFL cornerback Prince Amukamara on a deal that will improve the team’s depth at the cornerback position.

Amukamara was let go by the Bears earlier this offseason in a cost-cutting move before the final year of his three-year, $27 million contract with the NFC North team. He had started 44 of the team’s past 48 games, establishing himself as a regular in the team’s secondary.

The Massachusetts native will now be tasked with competing for a starting job and adding veteran depth to the Raiders’ roster. The former Bear, Jaguar, and Giant joins a team that is stocked with young talent, but little experience at the position.

Amukamara is expected to compete with Trayvon Mullen and Damon Arnette for a starting position, but might find a hard time competing with the 2020 first round pick and the 2019 second round pick.

Las Vegas, in its first season since its relocation from Oakland to Sin City, will be looking to improve a pass defense that struggled against the pass, allowing over 4,000 yards through the air along with 33 touchdowns and only 9 interceptions.

Amukamara could be an important piece that will help the Raiders accomplish this goal.

The Las Vegas Raiders made an important move on Tuesday, agreeing to terms with veteran NFL cornerback Prince Amukamara on a deal that will improve the team’s depth at the cornerback position.
