It looks like there is no doubt for the Phoenix Suns about the future of their franchise. They have decided to put it in the hands of their 21-year-old guard Devin Booker. According to ESPN‘s Adrian Wojnarowski, Suns and Booker are working on a five-year, $158 million max-extension, with terms expected to be finalized over the weekend.

Devin Booker is entering the fourth year of his rookie deal which saw him getting $2.2 million in 2017. This new contract will give him a huge raise, but it is something that Suns felt like they needed to do in order to finally make a push for the playoff spot in the Western Conference. This is certainly something that is in the reach for the organization, given the fact that they surrounded Booker with top-notch young talents including this year’s number one overall pick DeAndre Ayton and last year’s third overall pick Josh Jackson.

Booker spoke about his affection to the Suns organization on numerous occasions before and said that he intends to stay in Phoenix for a long time.

I’ve been treated right from the day I was drafted, even when I was a rookie and didn’t play much.” – said Booker recently. “The city of Phoenix took me in with open arms and made me a part of their family. I’ve learned the history and traditions of the team. I know how much the city cares about the franchise and that means a lot to me, playing somewhere where people actually care about the franchise. I love it here, I bought a house here and I intend to be here for a long time.

Coming out of Kentucky, Devin Booker surprisingly fell down in the 2015 NBA Draft, allowing the Suns to pick him up with the 13th overall pick. After a respectable rookie campaign, in which he received NBA All-Rookie First Team honors, Booker established himself as one of the league’s most prized young talents in the following two seasons. In the last season, he posted career highs in almost all statistical segments, averaging 24.9 points, 4.7 assists, and 4.5 rebounds per game. He was also the NBA Three-Point Contest champion for the 2017-18 season.

Phoenix Suns have missed the NBA playoffs for the eighth season in a row, and their rising star Devin Booker has had it enough.

I’m done with not making the playoffs,” – Devin Booker said on Wednesday. “I’m serious. This is probably my last year ever not making the playoffs. If that’s putting pressure on myself, I’m going to take this summer and work that hard so that it doesn’t happen again.

Phoenix Suns had their second-worst season in the history of the franchise, finishing with a 21-61 record. Despite the talented young core consisted of Devin Booker, Josh Jackson, and TJ Warren, the Suns didn’t manage to make a significant noise in the loaded Western Conference. They only did worse in their inaugural season in the NBA, when they went 16-66 in 1968-69. Booker, who is the reigning NBA All-Star three-point champion, now wants to change the current narrative for his team with a goal of “turning the franchise around and getting it back how it used to be.”

You watch the highlights of [Charles] Barkley, [Steve] Nash and them and how alive the arena was,” – he added. “So, one of my goals is to get it back that way.

Devin Booker emerged as the face of the franchise this year and ended the season averaging 24.9 points, 4.7 assists, and 4.5 rebounds per game.

Despite the young talents on the roster, Phoenix Suns can also count on draft picks and salary cap space to help them make a serious playoff run in the future. They have the highest chance to land number one overall pick in this year’s draft, and will also have one or more additional first-round picks. The Suns will also be one of the few teams in NBA that will enter the summer free agency with more than $10 million in salary cap space.

After negotiating his buyout with the Phoenix Suns, center Greg Monroe wasn’t on the free market for a long time. According to reports, he agreed to a one-year deal with the Boston Celtics which is worth around $5 million.

There were multiple teams chasing Monroe’s signature in the last days, but the Celtics and the New Orleans Pelicans emerged as the main contenders. While he would see more playing time with the Pelicans, the 27-year-old wasn’t too thrilled with the $2.2 million offer, the maximum the team could give him. Celtics didn’t give Monroe firm promises about the playing time, but obviously, $5 million investment was enough to convince him he will have a prominent role with this team.

Greg Monroe will certainly provide a spark on the offense for the Boston Celtics since he has averaged 10.4 points, 7.4 rebounds and 2.2 assists in 23.3 minutes per game in this season. The team intends to make a deep playoff run and maybe even challenge the Cleveland Cavaliers for the Eastern Conference Championship, and Monroe could definitely help with that.

Greg Monroe was selected by the Detroit Pistons in the 2010 NBA draft with the 7th overall pick. Monroe performed well for the Pistons in his rookie season, ending sixth in NBA Rookie of the Year voting. In the following year, he established himself as starter and valuable contributor to the team. After his contract with the Pistons expired, Monroe decided to sign with the Milwaukee Bucks in 2015. After playing as a starter in his first season, Monroe was relegated to the bench in 2016. In November 2017, Buck traded Monroe alongside protected future first round draft pick and 2018 second round pick in exchange for Eric Bledsoe. Since the Suns aren’t trying to win basketball games at the moment, he managed to negotiate a buyout and go to the team that wants to win.
