Bryan Colangelo resigned from his post as Philadelphia 76ers’ president of basketball operations, the team has announced on Thursday. Colangelo, who also served as 76ers’ general manager, decided to offer his resignation after it was discovered that his wife, Barbara Bottini, used fake Twitter accounts to 76ers’ players.

Bottini admitted being behind the fake accounts, while it remains unknown whether Colangelo knew anything about her actions.

The Philadelphia 76ers organization has accepted the resignation of President of Basketball Operations Bryan Colangelo, effective immediately. We appreciate Bryan’s many contributions during his time leading our basketball operations and thank him for the work he did in positioning the team for long-term success.” – said Philadelphia 76ers managing partner Josh Harris in a statement released on Thursday.

An independent investigation by New York-based law firm Paul, Weiss, Rifkind, Wharton & Garrison LLP was conducted into certain anonymous social media accounts that posted information concerning the club, personnel, and related topics (a statement of the findings is attached). It has become clear Bryan’s relationship with our team and his ability to lead the 76ers moving forward has been compromised.

While they look for the best candidate to replace Bryan Colangelo, the organization decided that head coach Brett Brown will oversee basketball operations on an interim basis.

Following his resignation, Colangelo released a statement in which he denies that he knew anything about his wife’s actions.

While I am grateful that the independent investigation conducted by the 76ers has confirmed that I had no knowledge of or involvement in the Twitter activity conducted by my wife, I vigorously dispute the allegation that my conduct was in any way reckless. At no point did I ever purposefully or directly share any sensitive, non-public, club-related information with her” – said Colangelo in a statement.

Her actions were a seriously misguided effort to publicly defend and support me, and while I recognize how inappropriate these actions were, she acted independently and without my knowledge or consent.” – he continued while stating that he didn’t resign but that he and the organization mutually parted ways.

Bryan Colangelo is the son of former Phoenix Suns owner Jerry Colangelo. He began working in the Suns organization in 1991, before taking over the GM position from his father in 1995. He left the position in 2006, taking over as president of basketball operations and GM of the Toronto Raptors. After spending 7 years with the Raptors, he decided to step down and worked as a consultant before accepting front office job with the 76ers. During his executive career in basketball, Colangelo won the NBA Executive of the Year Award on two occasions.

It took Philadelphia 76ers only five games to eliminate Miami Heat in the first round of the playoffs and clinch the spot in the Eastern Conference Semi-Finals. 76ers welcomed the Heat at Wells Fargo Center on Tuesday night and greeted them with a 104-91 win, which gave the 76ers a 4-1 win in the series.

The 76ers young stars Ben Simmons and Joel Embiid had another stellar game and showed that they are the rising force and probably a duo that will mark the NBA in the years to come. Simmons had 14 points, 10 rebounds, and six assists while Embiid finished the game with 19 points and 12 rebounds.

I kind of promised the city this,” – said 76ers’ center Joel Embiid.

We feel like we’re unstoppable and we can get whatever we want to. That’s the goal and we’re going to do what it takes to get there.” – he added.

The success of the Philadelphia 76ers is even bigger when you realize that they ended the last season with 28-54 record. This will be their first Eastern Conference Semi-Finals since 2012.

We’ve changed our goals like four times,” – said JJ Redick. “First, it was make the playoffs, then win 50 games, then getting home court, then getting the No. 3 seed.”

Now the Philadelphia 76ers are waiting to see who will get the better end of the series between Milwaukee Bucks and Boston Celtics. One thing is for sure, neither of them will have an easy task against this rising Philadelphia team.

That is a monumental effort, given where we were and where we are,” – said 76ers’ head coach Brett Brown in the locker room after Game 5. “To win a round in the playoffs is not to be denied. That’s special, especially given where we have come from. That’s the first thing. And the second thing, and I have said this to you — I believe it, you believe it — we have so much more to grow and give.”

Philadelphia 76ers rookie Ben Simmons is having a terrific first season in the NBA and has helped the team to a first playoff appearance since 2012. His excellent performances didn’t remain unnoticed by some of NBA’s legends including Julius Erving aka Dr. J, the man who brought the last NBA championship title to 76ers in 1983.

After the 76ers 121-95 win over Brooklyn Nets, Dr. J went ahead and called Summons “once-in-a-lifetime-type player.”

Once-in-a-decade, maybe once-in-a-lifetime-type player,” – said Erving of Simmons. “He’s able to make everybody better immediately each and every time down the floor; guys are spotting up or looking to cut or keying off of triggers that come out of his handling skills.

After missing the 2016-17 season due to an injury, Ben Simmons is making a compelling case for NBA Rookie of the Year award. The first overall pick in the 2016 NBA draft has 11 triple-doubles this season, alongside 36 double-doubles. He is currently averaging 15.8 points, 8.1 assists, 8.1 rebounds, and 1.7 steals per game.

Sometimes it looks like he’s got eyes in the back of his head because he sees and feels one of his guys making a run to the hoop or spotting up at certain positions. That’s just a gifted player that we are very fortunate to have on our team.” – added Erving.

Philadelphia 76ers just can’t catch a break. It seemed like “The Process” was finally paying off when the team clinched a playoff spot for the first time since 2012, but now their best player Joel Embiid suffered an orbital fracture and will require a surgery. Embiid was injured by his own teammate Markelle Fultz in the second quarter of 76ers win against the New York Knicks and could be out for two to four weeks. Besides orbital fracture, Embiid also suffered a concussion and was put in the NBA’s concussion protocol.

Philadelphia 76ers head coach Brett Brown spoke about Embiid with the media on Friday, saying that he doesn’t know how long the 24-year-old center will be sidelined.

After the swelling goes down and whenever the operation happens, we’ll all have a better feeling of accurate news. Right now we don’t have any information.” – said Brown.

Brown also revealed that he has talked several times with his young star and that Embiid is “just disappointed” about the injury.

The beauty of FaceTime,” – said the 76ers’ coach. “He’s just disappointed. He’s come through a lot. We need to help him — the team. Buy some time, continue to play good basketball. We all talk about how much we need Joel from a basketball standpoint and this is true. He needs his team now.

Injury of Joel Embiid couldn’t come at a worse moment for the 76ers. They are currently fighting to keep the home court advantage in the playoffs and remain as the fourth seed in the Eastern Conference.

Joel Embiid has been averaging 22.9 points, 11 rebounds, 3.2 assists and 1.8 blocks per game in this season.
